No, I don't go as far as to alphabetize,

but I do tend to keep the different genre's together.

I only own about 30 DVDS and I watch maybe 10 of those a year. I do go through about 4 netflix a week though. Your DVD collection reminds me of my friend who bought an entire wall shelf from a music store that moved near us (Twist and Shout) and the whole thing is filled with DVD's. He buys everything, especially if it says collectors edition. He actually has something like "Rainbow Brite: Collectors Edition". I'm not attacking a man for what he has in his DVD collection, I have Moonstruck for some reason, but come on.

I like most of the movies/tv shows I have on DVD.

There was only a couple that I don't like but they were "blind buys".

Generally, I'm not going to buy it if it sucks.

You're balking at that price?

$ 269 is pretty cheap for that amount of storage.

I'm not sure if you could find cheaper anywhere else.

Maybe Ebay.

Depending on the number of movies you have, you can go the Jukebox route. I initially had a storage unit that held 240 DVDs. When I filled it up, rather than expanding my storage, I went to a Sony 400 DVD juke box (megachanger).

I then use DVD Profiler from http://www.intervocative.com/ to catalog the DVDs and record the disc number (the online software for most megachangers are pathetic) and print out a book to sit in a draw in the end table next to the couch.

If we want to watch a movie, we open the book, scan through the movies grouped by genre, including a thumbnail of the cover, short description and the actors in the movie. Then we simply turn to that disc with the remote control.

I pretty much have it filled now, and will likely get a second one soon. Last time I looked, Sony was selling their low end megachanger for $299

How do those mega changers look with video though?

I went through three different models of up-converting DVD players untill I got one I was satisfied with.

My seating position is very close to a large screen so PQ is even more noticable than a typical home theater.

Mine is not an upconverting DVD changer, as I have had it for a while. I don't know if the current models are upconverting.

As to overall performance, I think it is very good, but that could be a result of my Infocus projector doing a good job of upconverting.

I watch it on my 118" front projection setup from about 13' 6" away. So, I have a PRETTY large screen considering my viewing distance.

I am insanely picky, which anyone that has followed any of my posts on Avsforum about LCD retention or other image problems could attest. I find it does a very good job. I also have a handful of HD-DVDs that I play through my Xbox, and while they are clearly better, it isn't a light and day difference, like you get between SD TV and HDTV.

Yeah, I think I'll pass for now.

I like the PQ of my current player and my next player will probably be a Blu-Ray/HD-DVD or PS3 or whoever wins the format battle.

I haven't really been buying DVD movies since the format war was waged last year.

I'm kinda waiting to see what happens from that.

In the meantime, my Amazon wishlist is getting pretty big. :)

FWIW, the current version of the $299 megachanger upconverts to (1080i/720p) http://www.amazon.com/Sony-DVPCX995V-400-Disc-Changer-Player/dp/B000A3XRSO/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/104-9087553-8063965?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1174453624&sr=8-1

For me it isn't worth the change, as my Projector has a good upconverter and I have compared it with my single disc upconverter and the projector does a great job. Some TV's don't do a good job of upscaling and then you are better off with an upscaling DVD player.

The Infocus Projector I have uses Pixelworks'™ DNX™ video-processing and is considered one of the better upscaling projectors in it's price range.

I haven't read reviews on the Sony 400 changer with upscaler to see how well it works.

Which would be even better if everyone was broadcasting 1080i, which would then just require line doubling/deinterlacing to turn into 1080p. The problem is that some stations are broadcasting 720P, which requires no scaling on a 720p, but those 720p signals have to be upscaled to 1080P, as the 1080i signals have to be scaled down to 720P displays.

It would have been better not to have multiple options for HD broadcasters, and instead simply settled on 1080i or 720p as the standard.

Yea, on Projectorcentral.com (one of the best sources of projector reviews) and AVS, Oppo a year or so ago was considered the best upconverter by far. Still might be, I just haven't been spending as much times on those sights since I bought my last projector a year ago.

In my living room/main TV room, I have a Yamaha HTR-5950 receiver (I think, I'm not in the living room at the moment), HD DirecTivo (HR10-250), a standard def series two DirecTV Tivo, Infinity TSS-750 6.1 speakers, Infocus IN76 front projector, Carada 118" Preceision series screen.

Also, the sony 400 DVD mega changer (480P component output), and I keep my Xbox 360's HD-DVD drive in the living room, and move the XBOX 360 between rooms. I typically only bring it into the living room to watch an HD-DVD, and in my play room for games on the Samsung listed below.

In the room where I have my computers and stuff, I have a Samsung HL-S5086W DLP RPTV, a DirecTV HD Tivo (HR10-250), Sony 6.1 receiver and some radio shack Optimus speakers with Linaeum tweeters from about 10 years ago that were a surprise hit in the $150 range. A couple magazines had them as the best low end home theater speaker and product of the year and stuff. Not always something you see on Radio Shack products. I replaced them with the Infinity's in the living room and moved them to this room.

Yea, the omni-directional tweeters were good for Pro-Logic, as the surround was less directional than AC-3, DTS.

I have some friends that spend more on their speakers than they do on the rest of their system combined, but I can't bring myself to do it. I tend to look for the speakers that are on the low end of the "mid-price" level that wind up getting great reviews from the home theater mags. That's what happened with the infinity speakers I bought.

Anyway, it works for me. The system looks and sounds good.

Yeah, I love speakers but my acoustics are terrible.

Anything above a certian quality level is a waste in my current environment.

Not to say that I don't have quality speakers, I just wasn't looking to break the bank this time around.

For the record I have

Ascend Acoustics 340 SE for LCR
Ascend Acoustics HTM 200 for surrounds
HSU VTF MKIII Subwoofer

:)
