Randy Starks...he's a bigger DT young and would probably come at a cheap price. I'd rather have him than McKinley. And why did we give him a four year deal?? Starks is 23 and we could atleast give him a shot with a one year deal or something!?

he's a RFA with a 3rd round tender..

i haven't seen him play, but i'd rather give up a 3rd for a guy that has played in the nfl (as long as he shows promise) rather than risk it on a DT in the 3rd...

everythings a gamble, but there should be game tape for our FO that would tell them if he's worth the gamble.

It is my opinion that the FO has already looked at the game tape, the third round tender, his salary, and made the call. It wan't worth the gamble.

Thank you Dean. I don't know if some are just over looking, or don't really think about it. But it feels as if so many on here are used to the MADDEN football, and then the Fantasy Football 'way' of judging talent, and thats simply jundging 'play' by numbers on a piece of paper.

MADDEN lets put a number rating from 1-100, and in Fantasy lets simply look at his stat sheet. Like you said, the FO actually looks at game tapes, and evaluates if he FITS the role for what they are looking for. Match that up with what they see him providing, along with amount of cost, and you go with the player that makes the most sense.

i agree with that, that's kinda what i was trying to say. everyone knows what they have to do to get this guy on their team, and so far no one has decided that it's worth it..

but even a guy that i don't know much about like starks or scott getting signed would probably excite me more than a guy like alvin mckinley...

Randy Starks fits what Bates would want to do at tackle. (He wouldn't need to bulk up much.) I've entertained this deal several times. I'd send #70 or #86 to the Titans for him. Don't agree with the assessment that Dean made that the Broncos didn't agree with doing it based on play, because he's a good young player, moreso that teams are just really want to keep their picks at this point.

If the play on the field is judged to be worth the price, teams will make the deal. The key is not whether Starks can play. It is whether he can do what this scheme requires well enough to justify the price in dollars and lost draft pick. For all we know, Shanahan may be looking at the third round and saying we can get the same or better output out of Paul Soliai (just an example) as we can from Starks much cheaper and for longer.
