Round 2 predictions

Med was pretty good in going 6-2 in round 1 with the only losses of Pitt (my heart pick) and Calagary.

Here are the matchups

NYR vs Buffalo------as much as I hope the Rangers win (yes I will be rooting very hard for them to win!!!!!) I see the more talented Sabres winning in 6

NJ vs Ottawa---- very very tough to call, I am going to go with experience and see NJ winning in 7. Goaltending is key and I think the Sens dont have enought of it and Marty is the best still

Van vs Anaheim---- I want Vancouver to win but I feel the Ducks are just a better team. Ducks in 6

SJ vs Detroit-- Det showed me a lot of grit vs Calgary but I love the way SJ is playing with Thornton, Marleau, Cheechoo et all. I see SJ winning in 6.

So the 10 fans here (you know who you are lol) make some picks.

and if you hate hockey which a lot do, please do not post here. I dont like basketball too much and stay away from those threads out of respect to the people that do like basketball.

I predict a conference final between the rangers and devils.

Jagr will guarentee a game 6 victory, come up with the hat trick, and stephane matteau will score the series clinching goal in game 7!!!

LET"S GO RANGERS!!!!!!!!!!!! :fight:

I see New Jersey, Anaheim, and San Jose advancing.

Detroit just seems to choke all too often in the playoffs (i could be wrong, but it's just my impression), and I could never bet against Marty in a big series (even if i do hate his guts! lol)

I don't care about the East much because I think the cup will come back to the West, but here's my predictions for the West.

Detroit will beat San Jose in 6 games.

Anaheim will beat Vancouver in 7 games.

Detroit will beat Anaheim in the Western Conference finals in 6 games.

Detroit will beat Ottawa in 7 in the cup finals.

i have no idea how i did as i just got back in town and cant remember my picks but anyhow...

i like buffalo over nyr

ott ovr nj-even tho i like the devils, ott is bound to do something this year.

van ovr ducks- good defensive battle here imo, unfortunatley van should win that

im also going to take san jose over detroit, for the same reasons, i personally think they are the team to beat right now.

OK NOW THAT i got some time on my hands, i will say sabres in 5 games

oh, by the way i havent seen 1 single playoff game yet  , so i dont know how each team is playing, also i am assuming that there are no significant injuries either.

sens will go to game 7
van take out ducks in 5
and sharks (this one is the hardest, both teams could annihalate the other, or both could battle it out til the end.) all the way to game 7 me thinks.

I went 6-2 in the first round, missed on SJ and NYR.

Ottawa over NJ in 7
Marty will keep the Devils, Sens will out work the Devils and the top line should put Ottawa over the top.

Buffalo over New York in 7
Well I was wrong about the Rangers in round 1. They played really well, thats why I see this one going 7 as. I was really torn on this one but I see the Sabers being to much in the end for the Rangers.

Nucks over Ducks in 7
What another 7 game series! All these teams match up pretty well and I think that they all should push and go 7 games. Iam sticking with Luongo. Nucks will need to find more offense, Ducks can put up goals but Loungo should help even that out.

Sharks over Red Wings in 6
San Jose handled the Sharks pretty easily during the regular season. Yes this is not the regular season. Wings played a very physical series against the Flames, they do not want to play that way again. Sharks are physical and fast but the kicker is they can score a lot more then the Flames. I see the Sharks winning in 6 just out playing the vetern Wings!

You did better than me Med. I went 5-3.

Here's my picks

NYR vs Buffalo: This could be a difficult series for Buffalo if they play like they played against the Islanders, but I see Buffalo winning in 7.

NJ vs Ottawa: Ottawa pounded the Penquins and their talented defense shut down their offense. Ottawa is a crushing team and if Emery continues to play well they will beat NJ in 6.

Van vs Anaheim: The Canucks got shut out 3 times against Dallas, how do they intend to beat Luongo? Ain't gonna happen. Ducks sweep.

SJ vs Detroit: Calgary didn't impress me at all in their series against Detriot. SJ will have too much firepower for Detriot and will wear them down in 6.

That's pretty awesome.

When I got home from Kuwait in October, my wife was telling me how she wanted to learn more about hockey and watch it with me...but she gave up after about a dozen games. When we were home in AZ earlier this month she bought a Broncos jacket and she hates football, but she is suddenly showing a new interest in it, so we'll see. I just might be buying the NFL Sunday Ticket this year so we can watch it at home with our youngin instead of me going to the bar to watch.

I'm leading the pool I'm in after the 1st. I picked every winner, and half of them in the right amount of games, so I'm stoked!

Here are my round 2 picks:

EAST

Rangers put up a fight, but it's not enough to halt a superior Sabres squad.
BUF in 6

Sens are LOADED and they're playing their best hockey of the year at the right time. Jersey just isn't deep enough to match them. OTT in 6

WEST

San Jo ain't the Flamers. The Sharks are bigger and tougher than Detroit, plus they have the skill to match them, which is why they owned them during the season. SJ in 6

The Nucks have had a nice run, but... please. If they aren't careful, they could be swept in this one. ANA in 5

I remember the playoffs in 2004 when Teemu Selanne scored at will with slap shots from the top of the right face-off circle. AND, I think, most importantly, I HATE when the Sharks announcers call Joe Thornton "Super Joe". :fight:

The Flames barely got in this year because Colorado went on a ridiculous streak at the end of the season. I wouldn't count on the Flames making the playoffs next year if the last 25 games of the season were an indication of how good Colorado will be next year. Minny and Vancouver aren't going anywhere in the Northwest Division. They're good and won't decline next year.

Things change a lot, so I would not make any reservations for ANY team

case in point the Stanley Cup Champs then out of the playoffs :( Hurricanes.

calgary has a great goalie, a pretty solid d, and one really good line,. this last year they didnt score a whole lot of goals, they played tight matches and used iginla, tangay, etc to capitalize when the other team was tired. if they draft solid for some point scorers, they coudl be very good.

obviously never as good as the avs, who need, another solid d guy or two and one more 20+ goal scorer. and we be the champs.

as much as i like fopa, if he still plays, i hope we dont bring him in.

Forsberg will likely retire. The Avs will have about $12 million in cap space to play with and it wouldn't surprise me if they went after a big-name d-man and another winger to play with Stastny and Hejduk. Our first line of Sakic, Brunette, and Wolski will stay together. Stastny and Hejduk will stay together with another winger. The third and fourth lines, not sure. I just hope they keep Budaj in net. Anyway, there is an Avalanche thread in the "Other Sports" section...

I agree with you about Budaj. He's solid. The Avs will likely buy Jose's contract out and seek out a good back up. Turgeon will be gone, breezy will be gone, Svatos potentially, Vananananananan potentially. Chris Stewart and Nigel (Williams?) both led their teams in scoring, so they could potentially make camp interesting. Wolski was anything but impressive after he came back from his concussion injury, so he's got some making up to do. I would like to see Johnny Boychuck make the team.

Could you imagine if Drury came back to the Avs? That would make a HUGE impact. We'll have the cap space to sign him and a big-name d-man if Giguere wanted to.

Sorry to disagree but Anaheim, San Jose and Buffalo all can beat the Senators.

I personally dont think Det is as good as those teams as well.

yes they are good but their goaltending is very very shaky. The aformentioned teams all have better goaltending and are just as good esp Buffalo (unfortunatley) at scoring goals.

The main reason why I pick Ottawa is because over the past few years they have consistently been one of the best regular season teams, but have had Marty Turco syndrome when the playoffs come. Now, they have solid goaltending and have all of the right tools on offense and defense. It's inevitable that they get to the cup finals eventually. I think this year is their year.

I agree except for the goaltending. I am not a big fan of Emery. He is too up and down for my good. Last night should have been a cakewalk and it turned into a nailbiter. Gerber is okay but sat on the bench for most of the Canes Cup run.

its all about J.S. GIGUERE and his .93 goals against average in the playoffs!! oh and mcdonalds hat trick also helps!!!

GAME NOTES

With wednesday win, the Ducks now have a 33-25 record in the postseason (.569 win %). The club has improved their overall home playoff record to 20-7. In addition, the Ducks have an overall postseason record of 29-13 since the start of the 2003 Stanley Cup Playoffs.

The Ducks have scored at least one power play goal in five consecutive postseason contests.

wednesday marks Andy McDonald’s first career multi-goal playoff game and his first career four-point game (3-1=4) in the playoffs, tying a club record for most points by a Ducks in postseason contest (also Lupul, 4-0=4 points, 5/9/06 vs. COL) It also marks his first career hat trick. It is only the second hat trick in club playoff history. The only other Duck to do so in postseason history was Joffrey Lupul, who scored four goals on May 9, 2006 in Game 3 of the CSF.

McDonald’s three points in the first period tie the playoff club record for points in a single period. Teemu Selanne (1-2=3) is the only other Duck to do so, scoring 1-2=3 points on May 5, 2006 vs. Colorado in Game 1 of the CSF (2nd period).
Chris Kunitz recorded his first career three-point game in the playoffs (0-3=3), marking the first time in club history a player has had three assists in a single period in the playoffs.
Chris Pronger has a five-game point streak (2-5=7), tied for the second-longest current point streak in the NHL.
Ryan Getzlaf has a three-game point streak (2-2=4) and has earned points in five of six postseason contests this season, scoring 2-5=7 points during that span.
Corey Perry has a two-game goal streak (2-0=2).
J.S. Giguere stopped 26-of-27 shots for his second win of the postseason. He has a League-best 0.93 GAA and .966 SV % (56-of-58 shots), allowing one-goal-or-less in each of his three postseason appearances.
Tonight’s attendance was 17, 250, a standing-room only sellout crowd. Going back to the regular season, the Ducks now have a 26 game sellout streak.

yeah, i got to watch the sj-det game, i only saw the last 4 min of the second, and all of the third.

and they completely in every way OWNED det. detroit had like 5 shots on goal the whole 3rd period, and most of them came from their powerplay with a few minutes left in the game.

Sharks should be up 3-0 in this series if it wasn't for losing a 2-0 lead in game 2.

I give full credit to Det last night. They looked to be defeated and then scored late and won in ot. Great effort

Also impresed with the Sens. I feel they will close out NJ in either game 5 or 6.

Here are the highlights

I give Detroit alot of credit for the comebacks that they pulled off. If it wasn't for the Sharks chocking two 2-goal leads, this series would be over. For the second time in the series they had the chance to put Detroit away and couldn't do it and won't win the series if they continue to give up leads like that.

Nucks let way to many shots get to Luongo. He is a good goalie, great goalie but when he has to face 60 shots a game the Nucks are going to have no chance. He did a good job carrying the Nucks this season but they had nothing against the Ducks who had just to much fire power. I feel bad for Luongo who did all he could but got no offensive help what so ever from his team. If the Nucks can get some fire power it would go a long way in them making a push next year.

I give full credit. I think SJ ereally choked in game 4 when up 2-0 entering the 3rd period. Congrats to Det for never quitting.

I hope SJ wins tonight. Buffalo won  I have to say Go Ottawa :salute:

The Rangers have nothing to be ashamed about, They played as well as you can. They should have won game 5 but gave up the goal to Drury (Avs fans yuck he should be here not in Buffalo) with 7 seconds left. Lundquist was outstanding in that game.

Not too happy they lost either. Detroit cameback in two of those games so give them credit. That series should have been the Sharks in four. This sucks

credit will be given to Det. They deserved to win. :brick:

Now its Go Ducks and Go Senators.

Meds worst nightmare is the Red Wings vs Sabres.

I would have to root for Det then. I hate Buffalo more than Det, but Det is definatley not one of my favs, although I respect Lindstrom and the wily Chris Chelios very much.

Well I really under estimated the Wings this year in the playoffs, I did the same with the Ducks! At least I got the eastern conference correct!
I wouldn't mind to see a Ducks/Sabers Cup Finals. Both conference finals should be good ones.
