WHAT are we going to do about DT!!! This is crazy, do you know who is starting next to Warren now?....DEMEATRIN VEAL!!! With LJ and LT in our division we will get run over. I thought Harrell was high on Shanny's draft board, and now he just ignores DT?

Soliai will be a difficult get.
DT needs to be addressed....Louis Leonard and Walter Thomas maybe.
There is the slight possibility of a trade or some June1 help....

Do they allow walruses in the NFL?
If so we could put him at nose tackle, he would clog up the middle.
All we would have to do is paint a uniform on him. It would look something like this:

Please god, let one of the Thomas' (Walter or Marcus) be there when we pick in the 6th and 7th.
Otherwise, we're screwed.

Interesting comments from Clayton:
Day 1 Losers:
#4 The Mile High Brownie defensive line:
Remember how Mike Shanahan put together two years of playoff runs by accumulating the greatest collection of former Browns defensive linemen? You remember the group: Gerard Warren, Courtney Brown, Ebenezer Ekuban, Amon Gordon, Alvin McKinley, Kenard Lang and Michael Myers. Shanahan continues to serve notice that Cleveland may rock, but former Cleveland linemen could be out in the cold. The Broncos drafted two defensive ends: Jarvis Moss and Tim Crowder. Brown and Myers are gone. Lang should stay, but Ekuban will have to fight for his job. McKinley was just signed, so he's in, and Warren is under a long-term contract. However, if the Panthers trade Kris Jenkins, don't be surprised if they move on Warren.
Not sure if he means DEN will trade Warren to CAR or they Broncos trade for Jenkins to dump Warren, but the message is still - Warren could be gone. Not sure why because I don't see much better out there but interesting none the less.

Yeah, I read that and was confused by it as well. My take is that if Carolina trades Jenkins then they will try to get Warren from us. I know this is pretty far fetched unless Jenkins does get shipped, but that would have to be a pretty sweet deal for us to give up our only super-fattie that we have in the middle of our line. Therefore, it doesn't make sense that they would do this.
My hope is that by some miracle we get a DT or S in the last couple of rounds, but I doubt it. Hopefully something will be available from the June 1 cuts for us to swoop in and pick up. Otherwise, let's start stuffing mckinley right now.

This guy sounds like a godsend. From what I understand, Bates' system for the DL isn't very complex so it might just work.

Wasent shanny talking about getting big in the middle during his pre-draft presser friday? he was talking about two DT's already on the roster that they want to compete in camp.....Antwon Burton 6'2 315 pounds and Amon Gordon 6'2 319 pounds, he was acting like these big bodies will fit into the new Defense better then they did in the old system from last season, if Bates wants big in the middle, then those two fat asses will plug up some space. :coffee:

It only adds to the confusion that when Harrel was taken from the boards that Denver decided to make the move to get Moss.
It would stand to reason that DT was a priority, but the cards didnt fall they way we had expected.
We shot the foot in my opinion by moving the extra draft picks for those 4 spots. Moss may very well be a difference maker in certain situations, but we didnt fill the holes we needed to fill to this point this weekend.
Of course this is just an opinion of an armchair, less than educated, pretending to know, GM.

you are right in that DT is a priority and was a priority...
but almost as a consensus, broncomania and shanny wanted DE's simply because we had negative pass rush last season...
thats 0, none, nill, no-existent, unrecognizable pass rush...
DTs dont need to be awesome, but solid and hole blocking beasts in the bates system...
we still may be able to get jenkins with a '08 draft pick, we still have 2 picks left, and there is training camp cuts and udfa period...
its still a concern...
but i, an armchair GM, would prefer great DEs to DTs any day of the week and twice on sunday...
shanny seems to know how to make things work...
so i dont worry...
