its similar to wow when it comes to death penalties except you don't go on corpse runs and its much easier to repair your gear because you can repair it at any vendor in the game.

there is also a medical droid (who is also a vendor that can repair your stuff) at each medical center (where you respawn) so there really is never an issue repairing your gear at all.

but yeah, there is item durability loss like in wow.

Oh, and I am in a PVP world but where do I start doing PVP and when should I? I'm probably going to get massacred because everyone is Sith but it's all about having fun.
the pvp in swtor is disapoointing IMO, especially the open world pvp. you will rarely get in a fight in the open world, at least on my server. but if you are on a highly populated server it may be better, not sure though.

its because most of the time you are questing in different areas and have to go looking for the enemy instead of running into them by accedent like in wow

there are a couple planets at higher level where you run into the enemy more frequently but its still kind of disapointing.

that said, you can queue up for warzones starting at level 10 but unless you already have sprint (used to be a level 14 skill but i think you get it at level 1 now) i would reccomend waiting until level 14.

although it kind of depends on your class, some class's don't get some of their very important skills until level 30+ but you can always try it and see what you think.

(Baph, on a side note are you going to be playing Diablo III when it comes out?)
    for sure, i cant wait.

Hey thanks for the reply. Diablo III should be interesting, but we will have to wait and see. :-)

I think earlier you mentioned something about companions? Is it like Skyrim where companions let you carry more and whatnot or does it work differently?
    Thanks IEWT!!!!!!

    http://swtor.wikia.com/wiki/Companion_Character

i haven't played skyrim yet but companions is SWTOR don't carry and items for you. they do craft for you and go on crafting missions. they will also sell "trash items" for you as well.

their main role is to help you fight. there are different kinds of companions that fill different roles (tank, damage, healer)

in my experience the healer is the best to use unless you are a healer yourself. you also need to make sure you gear up the companion you use, especially if it is a healer.

what class are you? have you chose your advanced class yet?

Nice, I will have to pick up a crafting companion myself and make him a healer. I am a Jedi Knight (Warrior I guess) and a human for what that matters. I don't believe I have chosen my advanced class yet. I am only level 8 so I haven't gotten vary far. College and whatnot you know?

all your companions craft and you do not get to chose them, you acquire them through your class story line.

you should be getting your first companion any time now and when you hit level 10 that is when you choose your advanced class and your crew skills.

here is a good reference to which crew skills to pick depending on what main profession you want to be.

    Got my first companion!

I just chose my skills at random lol, I can always drop them later if I don't like them. Right now I am more focusing on questing and leveling up as fast as possible. I'm level 11 at the moment. I decided not to be a tank because I figured that would be more stressful than being DPS which you basically just spam attack lol.

This game is pretty good, I got to give it that. So far I give Star Wars a B+!

i made that mistake with my first guy. trust me when i say that there is a huge difference when you utilize your crew skills. did you chose to be a sentinel with the two light sabers?

if so i would highly suggest you pick up artifice, treasure hunting, and archeology.

you will always have the best light sabers you can have at your level and it will actually help you level up way faster. plus you will be an absolute beast

Thanks, I'll make sure to switch my skills then. It should be easy enough lol, just drop the ones I have currently and pick up treasure hunting, archaeology and artifice.

Yah I chose to be the one with two lightsabers. I think I am going to craft my second lightsaber once I get some more credits. Right now I am broke cause I spent a ton of $$$ on abilities lol. Appreciate the advice.

I need to branch out and make some friends so I can go pvping when I level up.
    Thanks IEWT!!!!!!

no problem and you will never have to craft new light sabers once you get artifice, my jedi and sith warrior (who both have artifice) still use the first light sabers they got at level 10.

with artifice you create the hilt, enhancement, and color crystals to upgrade them. the only reason i can see to ever get a new light saber is if you find an augmented one and they are not cheap.

the only thing you will have to worry about that you cannot make are mods but you get those through quest rewards and through the modification commendation venders.

the only downside to this is it costs credits but it is way worth it IMO

but if you go out of your way to farm the archeology nodes while you level up, it helps a lot and you can sell the ones you don't use for a lot of credits in the galactic trade network.

man....all this talk makes me want to go play my jedi knight. lol

So a lot has transpired since I last talked to you. Now, I got my two lightsabers and am working on perfecting my fighting technique and the best use of my abilities.

I've learned a ton about this game just through interacting with other people.

Hey, I was thinking I want to try out the Empire and I was wondering if I could play with you on your server.

I'm thinking about making either a Sith Inquisitor or a Bounty Hunter. What are your thoughts?
    Thanks IEWT!!!!!!

lol i cant bring myself to play SWTOR right now because Diablo 3 is consuming all of my gaming play time currently.

but let me suggest that you do not switch servers to roll empire, you should stay on the same server and keep leveling up your legacy IMO

also, you cant go wrong with either BH or SI

it depends on your play style. if you pick SI your choice of advanced class at level 10 are two completely different play styles.

one of them is a spell caster type that can heal and use force lightning to do damage. the other is a melee class that can DPS or tank.

also, remember that all the classes on republic side mirror all the classes on the empire side. its a different feel but the skills are mechanically the exact same.

i have a republic trooper/commando which is exactly the same as an empire bounty hunter/mercenary

so you don't necessarily have to roll empire unless your server has more empire players to group with, want to see the class stories, or you like the feel of the empire side better (which i do)

but overall, i would say you are playing one of the better classes, if i was you i would stick with your jedi or if you really want to play empire, any choice of BH or SI would be wise.

    have fun!

back to Diablo 3 for me lol

I'm having my first confrontation with the SITH!!!! It's in a quest that I'm doing right now, so it's a huge pain lol. The companion makes it easier, but still I got to admit that force choke is something else lol.

My first payment is coming up, and I can say that I have never felt so good about spending money on something lol! This game rocks!! *On a side-note, if it SWTOR does go under for some reason that means it will be free for us to play! *

My friend just sent me the first act in Diablo III so we can play it together if you want when I finish downloading it.
    Thanks IEWT!!!!!!

in case anyone is interested, this game now has a free to play model that allows you to play it without buying the game or paying a subscription, with restrictions.

if you haven't tried it or liked knights of the old republic and just want to see the stories, i highly recommend downloading and trying it out.

    http://www.swtor.com/

regardless of what people say about the game, the class story lines are awesome and its definitely worth playing for that alone, especially for free.

    FREE?! Count me interested again.

I see by "restrictions" it means everything that isn't playing by yourself. I might still play a bit. They should just go straight free-to-play and put ads in :D

    http://www.swtor.com/free/features

that's a list of the differences and it is pretty restricted, but you get to play the class stories all the way through, which makes it worth it.

personally though,i always just subscribe when i play but for someone unsure if they will like it,this free to play option is great.
