Is the 6 second rule the new 5 second rule??

(too late.......I just dropped some fries......had to make my own decision)

What kind of surface we talking about?

    Carpet - 6 seconds
    Tiles - 5 seconds
    Wood - 7 seconds

With fries it's ok to extend the time frame, but with something like broccoli or spinach it's still a hard and fast rule.

I have a yellow lab, so there's no such thing as a 5 or 6 second rule.

In the few seconds in which I'd have to make up my mind on wether to eat said item on the floor, he'd have eaten it already.

in that case, you can extend the rule by minutes, in fact........just watch your step.

One more thing, any dessert is automatic fair-game once it hits the floor. You can always say you thought they were going to throw it away.

It depends on many factors. Where you are when you drop it, what you drop, and how it lands are just a few factors. If I drop something in my own home I'd be more apt to pick it up and eat it than if I were anywhere else. It is my dirt after all. As a matter of fact, I would ONLY consider picking something up off of my floors. What type of food also plays a major role. I can do a chip maybe or a cracker but never a chicken wing or something with sauce. Although you could conceivably wash it off in the sink and re-sauce it. Also the type of surface and where the surface is located, ie tile in the kitchen is ok but tile in the bathroom is a no no. In the end though it all comes down to 1. How hungry are you 2. How tasty was the item you just dropped 3. How many more do you have left 4. Are you really that hard up.

    Hope that helps....
