    New Defensive Cordinator

Wink has to go after the season and I think an option to replace him could be Wade Phillips. Think about it Philips is done after this year in Dallas and will be looking for a job. He is a great D coach proven by his years in San Diego he just isnt a good head coach. He was part of the coaching staff that drafted Merriman, Castillo, Phillips, Olshansky, Cromartie so he knows how to build a defense from almost nothing (which we need). On top of all this he is also under contract for another year from the cowboys so bowen will like the fact he will be relativly cheep the first year.
    Thoughts?

Im not necessarily sure Wink will be gone. The slew of injuries on D and the constant turnover, I think he may get a pass. Granted, that is if McDaniels isnt fired.

That being said, Phillips is a grant D Coordinator, just a sucky head coach. I wouldnt be against that at all.

Not sure if he would want to come back to the place he was fired as head coach though.

    I think he'd make a pretty solid D-coordinator.

Like McS said, I think Wink stays just because of all the injuries we've had, but I wouldn't mind if we got somebody like him to coach for us.

Not a bad idea, as long as he doesn't stand there with that confused look on his face.

    This

Wink spent all summer teaching aggressiveness and then loses his top two weapons: Doom and Ayers. I fully expect a turn around anyways W/L wise.
    My 2011 starting defense

    R Ayers - B Cofield - A Haynesworth - CJ ohnson
    J Anderson - J Beason - DJ Williams
    R Bailey - P Amukamara - R Hill - A Goodman

As bad as our defense is, changing defensive coordinators every single year cannot be good for our team. When players have to adjust to a new style of coaching, changes to the scheme, maybe new language, it only hurts the players. They are never comfortable. They need to get used to playing for the same guy and build some consistency and then maybe we will see some consistent play. But who knows what will happen with Wink or Josh for that matter. If we lose out for the rest of the year or finish with 4 wins, I think he is gone no matter how many head coaches they will be paying in 2011. I understand that the NFL is a business but we're in the business of winning. Winning will bring in much more revenue than cutting costs on salaries and coaching staff. Fact.

First season as D-coordinator and we have become a revolving door at that position. Honestly I say keep him and fire the Trainer as the scapegoat because the sheer amount of injuries this year is a joke.

i agree, all DC's were freshman at some point and likely were not that great from the start. let him learn as long as McD is here, we just cant keep doing this to our players year in and year out

I dont blame Wink for not drafting the talent it takes for our defense to be solid, because he is not in charge of that. Our problem on defense is player selection, the talent we have for the most are not good. This team needs to recognize true talent before we can advance to the next level. Our back ups on the OL and DL is not getting it done.

    If McDaniels stays, Martindale stays.

The Broncos have turned over DC's every season since 2006, and that has to stop.

Martindale has put together some very good gameplans this season, and he is a coach that is developing...I say give him a second year, then see where he is at.

Next year is the watershed year for the entire coaching staff

I truly expect Wink to remain as the Defensive Coordinator next year. It hurts when you lose your best pass rusher before the season even starts. Also with the amount of injuries that we have had over the past couple of years it would not surprise me if the Trainer is fired at the end of the season.

If we do fire Wink we will be just like San Fransisco but with Defensive Coordinators.

I agree...I think the only change that could be made is if Mangini is fired from Cleveland, it would not shock me to see McDaniles bring him in.

But overall, I would say Martindale has done a good job, and has come up with some very nice gameplans...and we all know he is working with limitations.

    He stays.

I would keep Wink as the Defensive Coordinator and make Mangini the Assistant Head Coach of the Defense.

It would not surprise me one bit if Mangini is fired in Cleveland and Holmgren takes over as Head Coach.

I don't think Holmgren wants to coach, or why simply not do it after last season?

I think the feelers will be put out to John Gruden and everything else will play off that.

If Gruden believes he can build something with McCoy, he might be interested...unless of course he becomes the HC of the Dallas Cowboys, who I expect are going to go after him as well...and I get the impression Gruden can work with Ol' Jerray.

If Gruden isn't an option, I think there is a good chance Mangini stays at least through 2011 with the Browns.
