Bunkley is average. He's not worth what all of you think he is.
That's what people thought about Gerrard Warren as well. Once he was released our run D took a nose dive.

Bunkley is above average and he has played above average for a lot of his career. He was a first round pick. He has a lot of talent and does a lot for the team. Maybe you close your eyes when Denver is on defense.

Bunk is a king among ants.

He is average on most teams, he is above average on ours. I think he is going to sign as a FA elsewhere, but I really want him back.

We need a DT that can shut down the run, and draft one that can collapse the pocket. I would keep bunk over all of our other DTs...which is not saying much, but beggars cant be choosers.

Also, saying fans dont have access to tape? I have all the games on DVR- maybe not all the angles that the coaches get, but I have everything that they do. He was our best DT this year and I will be sad to see him go.
    Draft: trade back- 2a.DJ Hayden-CB ;2b. Christine Michael-RB; 3. DJ Swearinger-SS; 4a. Jon Simon -DE; 4b. Barrett Jones-C; 5. Kevin Reddick- MLB; 7. Eric Wright-LB/DEhttp://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q.../fitzdavis.jpg

As I said in the OP, that's my beef. People thinking that Bunkley is worth top defensive-tackle money.

If we re-sign him to a bargain contract, great! Reality is, he's going to command a lot more money than he's actually worth, and that I'm not okay with.

Trust me, he will be paid like it. He's just a holdover until we upgrade through free agency or the draft. If he was commanding crazy amounts of money, I would say let him go, but chances are you won't do that. We've had below average tackles for almost a good 6 –8 years, I'm willing to tolerate Bunkley until we upgrade.

    who thinks that?

i think you are taking what people say to literally i might say give bunkley whatever he wants, but that assuming, on my end, that he wants what would equate to an avg to slightly above avg starting DT contract

not thinking we have all this cap space better just way overpay to keep him here

Why do the majority of people here believe that re-signing Broderick Bunkley is something that must be done, no matter the cost?

I keep reading posts that say "sign him no matter what". Really?

Broderick Bunkley contributes NOTHING in terms of pass-rushing ability. Zero sacks by him. Not good.

He's not a pocket-pusher. Yes, he doesn't get pushed back, but that's a quality you look for in a 3-4 nose tackle, not a 4-3 defensive tackle.

In addition, Bunkley contributed big to our 22nd ranked run defense. I'm not blaming the 22nd ranked defense solely on Bunkley, I'm saying he contributed to it. A great defensive tackle is able to be an impact defender that significantly contributes to a top-rated run defense.

Look at teams throughout the NFL that have premiere defensive tackle, they're perennially a top-10 rush defense team (again, I'm aware that there's a lot of parts that make up a run defense)

All I'm saying is that Bunkley is not worth more than a lot of you are making him out to be. His entire career, he's been average. That's what he is. He isn't an impact defender, and he has never lived up to his talent.

    Discuss.
our horrible run defense time occured in our nickel defense when bunkley was off the field cause allen felt like running a 6 DB defense all the time. He was the #1 run stopping DT in the NFL and it wasnt even close.......that is why he is must sign he owned double teams all year long on the field and he is a must becasue we havent had a beast inside like him against the run since pre superbowl years.....THATS WHY!!!!

He'll do just about as good for us at his position as an ageing John Lynch did for his

He wants top DT money, and he's not worth it, so if we're going to pay top DT money let's get a TOP DT. Paul Soliai offers the same as Bunk in the run stuffing department, maybe better, and can stay in on third downs and definitely command double teams (unless teams are ready to put in their back-up quarterbacks).

    No way. Haloti Ngata is.

Broderick Bunkley is average and has been average his entire career. There's a reason the Eagles got rid of him.

A lot of people want to overpay to keep Bunkley. I get into discussions with them frequently.

    See, this makes sense.

Not overpaying Bunkley for being an average player.

I do, though, disagree that Bunkley is average. He's at worst an upper end run stuffing DT, but considering he doesn't rush the passer whatsoever I'd rank him as above average.

He's great for what he does, though, and what he does is a necessity.
