I said it "arguably" did. The truth of the matter is you don't know if elway declined the deferred payments whether bowlen would have given the money properly to elway or fund the stadium instead.

It's a roster violation IMO but one that arguably kept elway a bronco.

Then why is your team 1-3 vs the Broncos in the playoffs during the Bellichek/Brady Era?

Patriot Fans: "We can beat everybody, were the best!!!!"

Denver Fans: " The Broncos are 2-0 vs your team in the biggest game we can play"

Patriot Fans: "So, we have a better Superbowl record!!!"

Denver Fan: We cant play each other in the Superbowl, the biggest game we can play is the AFCCG, and we own your team!"

Ok well arguably your team couldn't have won 4 Superbowls without Deflategate, and Spygate.

But if bowlen says, "we can pay you top $ but you won't get the money until a few years later," it changes everything.

NEW YORK -- The Denver Broncos have been fined $950,000 and
will lose their third-round pick in next year's NFL draft for
circumventing the salary cap between 1996-98.
The penalties were levied Thursday following an agreement
involving the league, its union and the team.
The violations included agreements between the team and several
players to defer salary payments with interest and an agreement not
to waive a player before a certain date. Both raised issues with
    accounting for the salary cap.
In addition to the penalties against the team, the NFL said an
agent for a former player agreed to donate $100,000 to charity.
Neither the agent nor the player was identified

so when tommy got nailed cheating by having his balls deflated...did the league with the union...AND THE TEAM reach an agreement on tommys penalty?...no

Don't forget, too, that Denver was driving and could have been up 13 or 17 to 0 before all HELL broke loose!
    oh YEAH?
