The bar underneath your name: This tracks your progress through the ranks in a way similar to the old orange bar method. I'm actually not entirely sure how it works, but if you get the equivalent of the full 11 bars from before the update, your tracker will look like mine. That's as much as I know for now...
Have we learned more about how to interpret this 'bar'?

I'll get back to you later tonight or tomorrow, I'm going to look into some things to make sure I know exactly what I'm talking about

I'm pretty sure though it works exactly like the old bar system, where the bar either extends or changes colors depending on your CP count. I'll confirm this later.

Hey, do I need a certain amount of CP's in order to post on someones profile? For some reason, the only profile that I'm allowed to comment on is my own? Not sure if I need a certain amount of CP's for that, or if I'm just doing something wrong?

OK, as far as the bar goes....

As a practice squad member, it's one little red bar, that's the most common one you'll see on the forums from most members.

When you become a benchwarmer, the bar doubles in size, still at light red. So at 100 CP, the bar is raised, so to speak.

At 200 CP, not the 250 you need for special teams, but at 200, the bar increases again. So, like I had guessed, it's very similar to the old system of bars. At 300 CP, it increases again, but there is no increase at the Special Teams level.
At 400, the bar becomes bigger again, and at 500, it gets bigger with the darker bar extending from it.

Just like the old system, the next extension is at 700, then 900, then 1100, then 1300.

Finally, at 1500, you've maxed out the bar.

    And there you have it.

Yes. Benchwarmer. I'll add that to the first post.

Thanks Yea, I had read over the post, but wasn't sure I saw it there. Figured I needed to get a certain number of CP's to do that then.

    Thanks

I really wish we could set the value of a bar on here and make it correlate to the user ranks. I know that's confusing, guys. We don't like that either.

That's on VB for the record, not Akavit. Akavit did everything we asked and more.

Maybe it's just me, but opening up the religion and politics threads when you get enough CPs seems more like a punishment than a reward

There are some pretty good discussions that go on in there, tis not for everyone but for those who are inclined and have an interest in those subjects its nice to be able to do that within the confines of the boards. You also get access to the 'locker room' (if it actually exists) which is pretty cool

you can, in the includes. The name of the file is functions_reputation.

All you'd do is make a large if/then statement... if 200 cps then 1 bar... if 350 then 2 bars... etc etc.

i tested it out and it worked.

    just my 2 cents

edit: of course you'd have to comment out the old code which has it in a single if then i think, basically on 100 increments.

Since you're familiar with Vb it shouldn't be too hard to pinpoint the things present that don't come standard with their default boards.

The issue's been noted. It's on the list as I think was stated before. When other priorities are taken care of, it'll be addressed.

If you'd like to apply to be an intern for our tech company though, I'm certain they'd at least take a look at your application. They really have a wonderful team there, and I'm certain it'd help bolster someone's portfolio to work with a prominent company such as Akavit.

Trying to be helpful, since it looks like you didn't see this post. As Al said, sounds like you know your stuff.

I'd like to make a suggestion for a minor tweak to the CP system & see what your thoughts are on it.

Ok so what i was thinking is for the part on how much someone's CP is worth when they give to another member, on the part that for every 4 years you have been a member you gain 1 point towards the value of giving, what if it could be for every 3 years you have been a member you gain 1 point of giving value?

I don't even think that would really make a big or noticable difference, because in all honesty how many members even have 8 years or more right now in order to gain 2 points & furthermore for the very very few members such as myself that first signed up in the first year, under the current system we would not gain a 3rd point for another 3 years as opposed to this year & i think it would be cool for some of the senior members to be able to give a little bit more back. I think 4 years is a fairly long span.

Anyway that's my idea & would love to hear any or all the mods thoughts on this matter, thanks.

When we set the current levels, this was actually already taken into consideration. How do you balance longevity vs. participation, yet keep it at a reasonable level?

In the end, it was decided to place a greater emphasis on participation, so that the people who contribute the most (and we recognize that by the amount of CP they have received) are the ones who have the greatest ability to affect the users around them.

At the same time, we still recognize that seniority should have it's perks, (we considered doing away with CP raises due to longevity completely) but just because someone created their account a long time ago doesn't mean they should get to have a great affect on the community, especially if they aren't a regular member of the community.

In other words, seniority does get a nod, hence the 1 point every 4 years, but it those who contribute to the community the most should be the ones who get to affect it the most.

I hope that answers your questions.
