V? You gonna watch it?
I sure as Hell am. Looks to be a good show.

For those of you that have no idea what I'm talking about:
First - NOT V for Vendetta.
Secondly - it's a show about extraterrestrials. The star extraterrestrial of the show is some female actress that looks like she'll be really good at well..creeping the -expletive DEEEleted.- out of me.

Also, ever seen FlashForward?

When does it start? I've seen previews for it..

I enjoyed the old time V movies... They were pretty cool at the time.

The female star I believe was on Firefly. I think her name is Morena Baccarin.

This is a reimagining of the original series which I thought was ok. I was surprised to find out it was in 1984, it seemed more like the late 80s to me. Eh, I'll watch it although I don't watch any TV show outside of South Park and Family Guy.

well i watched it. eh... i dunno.

one thing was bothering me: the whole take on the lame ass conspiracy theory that reptilian aliens have been among us for decades biding their time...

now two things bother me: that first thing, and now the fact that this is just a redo. yet again the entertainment industry fails to come up with something original.

i miss Kings...

There is nothing new under the sun. Every movie is about the underdog and every story has been told and it is simple told in different ways.

this couldn't be more true. but at least they could try a bid harder to make stuff as original as possible. Every story is essentially made up of the same ingredients.. it's just a matter of how good the chef is and how they mix them up.

V will probably be interesting... at least it's not a cop drama or hospital show.

at least it doesn't have Christian Slater in it...lol.

Also, to the guy above your post:

yes, Kings was sick. it also ties in to what we're talking about with putting a new spin on an old story. Kings was straight up a re-imagining of the story of King David...very well done i thought...

but the networks don't like originality or actual quality because no one is in to quality these days. if it isn't about death or murder or crime or hospitals or seeing who can get voted off first for not losing enough weight or cooking well enough or pretending to "survive" on an island for 3 months then they don't want anything to do with it.

and so..........great ideas and actual creativity like Kings dies young

I took a class a long time ago in college. Argument of Rhetoric. It was graduate level course. Only 8 people in the class and we analyzed everything from FDR's inaugural to movies made. I had to do a 20 page paper on the movie Deliverance. You had analyze the names of the characters.

Had to analyze the the subliminal messages from the political to the feminist cirtiques etc etc.

I have seen every movie, song, speech through the lessons I learned in that class. It can be annoying, but I feel like the vail has been taken off of my eyes since that class.

For instance the movie Deliverance, the two MEN that acted feminine, had male/female neutral names (Drew and Bobby). That was no mistake.

Right away you can see the subliminal mesaages in V. Not to different from Alien, they are making the females the hero and anti-hero etc.

Like I said, nothing new, just a different way of telling a story.

Take a guess the political party the aliens represent in V. Anyone catch the universal healthcare reference?

As a Firefly geek, I am happy to say you are correct. She played Inara, the Companion on board Serenity (basically a high class prostitute). And she's a great actress, although lesser known to people who don't watch much sci-fi of course. I'm definitely interested in this show, which for people who don't know is actually a remake of a show in the early 80's also called V. Will be interesting to see if it lasts, although it may be tough considering it will have about a 3 month break once the first four episodes are aired (supposed to be on hiatus until after the 2010 winter olympics are over with).

The reason that Kings died had nothing to do with anything other than the fact that the network didn't give it a chance. Anytime you split a tv series up (air some episodes and then put the show on a break for a while before airing more) it's likely that the show will die. Unfortunately, this is the likely fate for V as well, since as I stated in the post above, it's slated to be on a break shortly into the first (possibly only) season for the winter olympics.
