SALARY CAP - It's what makes football the greatest game in the world. No team can just buy a championship (just ask Dan Snyder).

I honestly hope these arguments go on forever because that mean my Yankees are winning championships like crazy.

Believe it or not, the MLB, despite having 2 less teams, has had more separate teams winning championships than the NFL in the past 20 (maybe more...I dont remember). There is actually more parity in the MLB than the NFL. Salary Cap doesn't do much really. In the end, it comes down to smart planning and roster-construction (look at the Yanks, we don't win every year).

As much as I hate it when teams spend a bunch of money for huge players, the Yankees can be beaten. This year they were definitively the best team. Year before they missed the playoffs. Year before that they were the wild card and lost in the ALDS.
So while it may give them an advantage, the other teams still play the game to win it. Teams like the Rays and the Rockies show that teams can get to the WS on good farm systems (they didn't win it, but still). Florida won the Series in 2004 with the 5th lowest payroll. I'm not exactly sticking up for those darn Yankees but teams that lost to them only have to look in the mirror for someone to blame. |

Put in a cap. Wouldn't bother me a bit. MLB needs a salary FLOOR. Hell, give me a commissioner with no ties to one of the teams in the sport while we're at it. In the mean time, I'm going to enjoy the Yankees championship and tip my cap to Derek Jeter for his comment about playing 200 games this season for one reason: to win a title. Funny how he failed to mention the title was theirs all along. Still waiting to hear from the "A-Rod will never win a ring" crowd. __________________

if it wasn;t for the joke baseball is, with the disparity of payroll, the sox would probably still be looking for their first championship...the difference between me and you is that i can admit it's because of that unfair advantage what? weren;t expecting a sox fan to admit the sox have two titles for the same reason the yanks won this one? it's ok...those are the rules...that doesn't mean the rules don't suck for everybody else __________________

it's not necessarily about parity...it's about a level playing field the nfl and nba teams you list have won because of a good front office, not because they outspent the other teams in the league by 100 million dollars ![]() __________________

I think KB and DS both know of my deep respect for the Yankees. I think of them not just as a sports franchise but as a sort of timline for American history itself. The history of that franchise is mind-boggling. From the Babe to Mantle to Gerhig to Jeter the names alone evoke an emotional response that spans generations. There is no denying that the Yankees are the most historicly as well as fiscally "rich" franchise in all of American sport.
Because of their history and their wealth they are going to have many people hate them. Even myself, though I have a huge amount of respect for them, I always seem to find myself rooting for the underdog. The Yankees, if nothing else, give us a reason to watch. I do believe that something needs to be done for MLB though. But, don't blame the Yankees. Blame the rules and even more importantly blame the owners who treat their teams like a money making venture and nothing more. I think along with a salary cap there needs to be a salary floor as well. Too many baseball owners are cheepskates. So, again don't blame the Yankees for playing within the system, blame the system. And remember this is their first WS championship in quite a few years so it's not as though they can't be beat. The Red Sox, who have the second highest payroll if I'm not mistaken, have won more championships in recent years than the Yankees. __________________

I just realized that all three of my North American Pro sports teams have the highest payroll over the last few years: Yankees, Raiders, Knicks.
The Yankees had bad investments. This year, good investments. result: Parade. ![]() Raiders and Knicks are throwing money at half talented (if that) players. They have a salary cap, but upon further review, even if there was no salary cap, they wouldn't be where the Yankees are. I look at the Knicks roster and see scrubs who are ripping off the frachise. I see Al Davis throwing millions at Tommy Kelly, Javon Walker, Lamont Jordan, DeAngelo Hall. This on top of JaMarcus via the draft. These are bad investments. Next year, the Knicks will have ton come of the book and may get Lebron, Dwayne Wade and/or Chris Bosh. But if they don't build around them, it's all for nothing. Al Davis will continue to reach the apex of the cap limit but again, if it's the wrong personnel (and coaching on top of it) it's a waste. I want a salary cap in baseball. But until it's in place, don't fault the Boss and Sons for wanting to build a winner. CBS didn't do that in the 60s. __________________

I live in the Cleveland area, so I have to constantly put up with people running their sucks about the city and the sports here. For example, LeBron James wears a Yankees hat and is friends with JayZ, therefore he is going to play for the Knicks. Stuff like that. It's hard enough to put up with the Cavs and Indians history of futility, but when a great home grown player like LeBron finally get's drafted to a mid west (best NBA players are often from the mid west but don't play professional ball there) team it's great; problem is, when I turn on Laker Center, I have to put up with, "It's only a matter of time until LeBron plays for the Knicks". My point is that, I'm glad there is a salary cap in the NBA, because it can be hard to watch knowing the best players on my respective team are under lease from big market teams. Teams like the Knicks have completely destroyed their rosters in order to attempt to sign guys like LeBron and Bosch. They basically have to pay to play. Grant it, this is not always the case. The Celtics and Lakers don't necessarily have to do this, because there are GM's and Franchises in the league who are loyal to the Celtics and Lakers. Therefore, you have Kobe Bryant being traded for Vlade Divac, and the Pau Gasol and Kevin Garnett situations. Nonetheless, it's as fair as it's going to get.
In baseball, not having a salary cap is probably better. I'm not going to cry about Lee and Sebathia, for simple reasons: The Indians would find a way to lose with them anyway, and I'm just not that in to baseball. There is no salary cap in the MLB for a reason, just look at how people go nuts when the Yankees win the series. They bring in all of the money and attention. I don't think installing a salary cap would improve the MLB, but probably hurt it. I don't think writers should cry about it publicly like these guys are. They are just skylighting themselves. __________________

The talks with Jay-Z were about him joining the Nets who are moving to Brooklyn. Eiher way, there's that talk of him coming to New York. The reason why I would fear this possibility as a Cavs fan is because LeBron admitted to being a front runner. If he sees that the Nets or Knicks can buy a great team but Cleveland can't, along with the market he'll be in, he'll bounce.
