Right now, guys like Hughes, Derrick Morgan, Everson Griffin, Ricky Sapp, Greg Romeus, Greg Hardy, Sergio Kindle, and Brandon Graham are all in that Mid-1st - Mid 2nd possibility range and in no set order of preference. You also have the up-and-comers like Von Miller, Jason Pierre-Paul, Jeremy Beal, Eric Norwood, and possibly Adrian Clayborn. And those are just the potential DEs that could make the switch to a 3-4 position. There are a few more 4-3 DEs (or 3-4 DEs) such as Carlos Dunlap, Corey Wootton, and Cameron Heyward in that mix as well. __________________

Well, I can't speak for anyone else, but I can tell you my answers to these questions. 1. Carlos Dunlap - Right now, I think he's in the Late 1st to Mid 2nd range. He's had a really bad year, but finally played dominant his last game. The rest of the year dictates what he does, if he turns it on, he probably moves into the Early - Mid 1st. If he struggles, he probably won't come out early. The one thing about Dunlap is that he is personally convinced he can be dominant, so his personality will bring him back to school if he struggles. 2. Joe Haden - Right now, he's probably the #1 CB. He's played very physical this year and has progressed well. The questions about him remain his coverage speed. This week should answer quite alot as he goes up against Georgia's All-World Sophomore AJ Green. If he keeps up with Green, Haden is probably the #1 CB in this draft and a Mid-1st Round guy. If he struggles, Haden is probably in the 2nd Round. The concern is that Haden might just be a Cover-2 CB. 3. Maurkice and Mike Pouncey - Right now, they are both probably leaning towards declaring. Maurkice is in the running as the top OC and almost a 2nd Round lock. Mike is in the running as the top OG and more of a Late 2nd or 3rd Round guy. There's not a whole lot of improvement either guy can achieve by coming back to school. If Florida wins the National Championship, I really doubt they would return to school. 4. Dez Bryant is so incredibly good, he won't fall very far. Before getting kicked, I thought he was in the running as the #1 selection in the draft. Now, he's probably going in the 10-20 range, but still ahead of Damian Williams and Mike Williams as the #1 Overall WR. 5. Jahvid Best won't fall out of the 1st Round. He's Reggie Bush without being overhyped. So, a team like Green Bay, that needs a tremendous 3rd down back and return threat would certainly take him in the later stages of Round 1. 6. Pike's injury is a big concern, but I think one of the QB desperate teams will take him in the early 2nd Round. For instance, Carolina doesn't have a 1st Round pick, so they'll almost certainly be hoping for Pike or McCoy in Round 2. Washington may opt to take a LT with their Top 10 selection and grab a QB in Round 2. So, I expect Pike to go at the top of the 2nd Round. 7. Sam Bradford is the ideal west coast QB and his injury concern isn't near as bad as Pike's because Bradford's shoulder was simply reinjured when he tried to tough through it. He's not a fit for North Eastern teams, but would be great for someone like Seattle. So, I think Bradford probably goes in the 10-20 range to a team that emphasizes accuracy over arm strength. Hope that helps, I'm just going off the top of my head. __________________

Could we look at Dez Bryant? Since Dunlap is falling to mis second, could we look at him? I think our needs are as follows: S-I would look in FA. Dont think we can get a shot a one in the draft unless we look at Maior Wright. CB-I like joe haden. WR-i like jordan shipley, not to mention he can be in the return game. C-i think we should go for both pauncey twins. ILB-go for spikes.Davis is getting old I know we cant get all of those, but i would love 1st-joe haden 2nd-shipley 3rd-major Wright. If we get top ten from chicago trade down for 2-shiply 2-wright 2-Maurkice Pauncey 3-other Pauncey Other Pauncey can replace Hamilton when we dont resign him. With his brother as center we should have a very young cohesive unit up front. Also, with Shipley, Marshall, Royal, Gaffney, we would have a VERY NICE WR squad. Wright could eventually replace Dawkins. My dream pick would be Spikes. He will bring that emotion and leadership that Dawkins will take with him when he retires. We will need that emotion and leadership to stay successful. |

I think Joe Haden is a possibility, but I'm not convinced we are looking for a high-priced starting type CB prospect. I think we just need depth. Our reality is that Goodman and Champ have played stellar, Jack Williams has stepped up big time, and Alphonso is showing potential when healthy. Unless Champ gets cut due to salary cap issues, which is always a possibility, I think we're looking more towards back end CB depth rather than front end CB depth. That would likely take Haden off the table for a more pressing need. The same argument could be made in regards to Dez Bryant. Unless we sever our ties with Marshall, which is possible, but looks less likely by the week, than our need at WR, if any, would be for backend depth. Right now, Gaffney and Royal are not going anywhere, the only guy that might be gone is Stokley and we drafted McKinley to replace him. We are currently so stacked at WR, McKinley can hardly get any snaps. I don't really see WR as a need at this time. Dunlap probably doesn't fit our team. He's more likely a 4-3 Power End in the Mario Williams mold, but the real killer is that he just hasn't played that well. McDaniels is really big on effort and production. Dunlap would have to really turn it on to get us to consider him and I'm not sure he'll be a good fit in the 3-4. But, there is a possibility. Maurkice Pouncey in the 2nd Round is a real strong possibility. We'll have to look into his character a little bit more, but his talent and our team need certainly unite in that 2nd Round range. Mike Pouncey in the 3rd Round would be a possibility too. That would be pretty cool to have those brothers united on our team. They are some big, strong boys too. Would definitely help the interior running game and short yardage situations. I'm a huge Major Wright fan, maybe even too big of a fan, but I see him as a Late 1st - Early 2nd Round guy. When I've watched him play, he's been dynamite. I'm going to really watch him tomorrow and see how he does along with Haden and the Pouncey twins. I don't think we'll spend a 1st Round selection on a Safety and I don't think he'll be there when we pick in the 2nd Round. I also don't really view Safety as a need since we signed Dawkins and Hill to 5 year deals and drafted McBath and Bruton fairly high in last year's draft. Most teams only roster 4 Safeties. We have 5 along with Josh Barrett so I don't see Safety as a need. I'm a big Shipley fan too, everyone is, but I just don't see the need. He's the same type of player as McKinley, and while he's definitely better, we are stacked at WR. As for Spikes, I don't see a need at all. DJ has locked down the Jack position, which is where Spikes would play. Woodyard is a very capable, and cheap, backup. Andra has been awesome for us and TED LBs generally have VERY long shelf lives. Davis is still pretty young, I think he has at least another 5 years of quality play left in him. I really see our biggest need being Defensive End, followed by Center, and then after that just depth needs at CB and OLB. __________________

I say this due to the fact you dont like haden because of depth at CB. Champ probably will retire with in the next 2-3 years. I like joe haden because he is a big talent and can learn from the best for those 2 years and get in the game with all the knowledge he would need to be in tip top condition as a CB. With the draft prospects i was looking at a couple of min ago, i like us to look at jermaine in the first. Pauncey twins in the next 2 rounds. Maybe a Chad Jones LSU in the forth. vince o. DT Duke in the fifth. Shipley in 6th. If he falls far enough we should get garret blount in 7th. i dont care what others say. he is talented in hi spos. he made one mistake and in my mind and his coaches he has learned from that. he most likely will not make that mistake again. and he has huge talent for that far into the draft. if he is a mistake then we wont waste alot of money on him in the 7th. What is your take on my draft and on blount? |

Second, Cunningham looks fine for 3-4 OLB depth in the mid rounds. He has a ton of talent. I don't think he is going to go in the Top 64 selections though. There are a lot of elite DE/OLB prospects in this draft, and I don't view him as on the same level, as say, a Greg Romeus, Ricky Sapp, or even Brandon Graham. Some talent evaluators are high on Cunningham, but I haven't seen enough yet to catapult him over the other stars at the position. As for Haden and team needs, I really am of the opinion that we need serious help at DE. I view Holiday as a one year rental, I am not impressed with Ryan McBean at all, LeKevin Smith has been marginal since getting healthy, and Kenny Peterson is probably our best DE. That's bad. And we all know about our poor interior O-line situation. So, if you're asking me if I like to address future needs before they become dire, the answer is yes. But, if you're asking me would I address a future need instead of an immediate need, than the answer is no. Especially when the value measures up. Defensive End (for the 3-4) has some elite prospects this draft but dries up quickly. In my mind, we absolutely have to spend either a 1st or 2nd round selection on one of: Jared Odrick, Arthur Jones, Cameron Heyward, Carlos Dunlap, or Vince Oghobaase. All of those players will be gone by the end of Round 2. In regards to your mock, Chad Jones is a 2nd Round lock if he comes out. He's a monster. Oghobaase is a 2nd Round lock. Shipley is a 2nd Round lock. There is no chance they slip past the 2nd Round, these are elite players at their positions. Oddly enough, Jermaine Cunningham probably will slip past the 2nd Round, but probably not the 3rd. You have the right draft value on the Pouncey twins, but taking them would mean you lose out on some of your other players without some serious trading. Blount in the 7th is fine by me, but if we passed on Chris Baker for his issues in the draft, I doubt we would gamble on Blount. I think signing him to a Free Agent deal is totally possible though. My "Ideal" draft would be: 1. DT Jared Odrick 2. OC Justin Boren and then I don't care, just get some depth at OLB and CB, and the team can do what it wants with the other selections. I really only view DE and OC as major team needs. __________________

MUG, with a likely uncapped year coming up, who do you see us re-signing? Do you see us being active in FA? Or do you see us being more active in the draft? Could we trade one of our high profile players like champ for more picks? Champ takes up alot of money and is getting up there in age, could we still get value out of him IF we did trade him?
Overall, where will our biggest move be? FA, Draft, or Trading? Also, what is your value on sergio kindle? Where in jax do you live? |

I would not mind seeing Tony Pike in the 4th round+ if he's back from the plate shift injury.
Overall - like where you're doing. Not sure about signing Hobbs - would hope that the Fonz is ready to step up and compete for a starting position next year... Perhaps we could sign Hobbs cheaply as you said for a nickle spot. __________________

I think our team philosophy is always going to be bargain shopping. McDaniels was pretty adament about not allocating a huge number of the team's cap to a single player or small group. I think Kyle Orton will make for a solid bargain signing, but I'm going to be very interested to see what Brandon Marshall and Elvis Dumervil ask for. We'll see how much McD is willing to spend. I don't see us too active in Free Agency. We'll probably focus on re-signing our core guys and then dabble with some cheaper depth signings. It will be interesting to see if we go after JJ Arrington again if he has healed completely. We could absolutely trade a high profile player for draft picks similar to how Belichick dealt Seymour. I think the odds are not very high, I actually think Dumervil is the guy we might move if we determine we can't meet his asking price. I don't think we trade Champ but it is possible. I'm not sure we could get more than a 2nd or 3rd rounder at this stage of his career. Overall, I think our biggest moves will definitely be made in the draft. We don't have a lot of needs, we can afford to wheel and deal during the draft to get fewer, but more talented players. I really think the draft will be interesting this year, though if we end up only picking 4 guys, I won't be surprised. Sergio Kindle has been playing well this year. I did not catch his battle against Russell Okung last night unfortunately. But, he's been very effective to this point and a physical marvel. I think his value is in the 15-25 range, but a team like Oakland could reach on him due to his triangle numbers. Finally, I live in Mandarin. __________________
