Yeah, I guess we'll see.

There's alot of TC and preseason left.

Bottom line though, I don't care if your a first round pick, a big money FA vet or neither, if he's the best one for the job, then he should START.

Thank you for saying that. See everybody, I am not the only person who believes that. But saying he is the new TD is a little premature right now but if he keeps it up, he will be a force.

That is some high praise for the kid to be comparing him to T.D. (a.k.a. the 2nd best Bronco in history)....

The late round (or in Bell's case - undrafted) comparisons and maybe his style of running may be similar....

But it is very unlikely that Mike Bell will ever come close to matching T.D.'s production, or, place in Broncos history....

Terrell Davis was on his way to shattering every major rushing record in history - I doubt we will ever see someone of T.D.'s likes as long as we live....

Terrell Davis I you

what i like to know is, is this guy a physical back? does he have the speed to get a 20 yard + run? does he have the determination to grind through the heart of a defense to get those 3 yards for a first down/touchdown?

from what i understood from TD on the NFL:TA show, his playing weight was at 205lbs. i found that fascinating because he always looked like a eddie george/mike anderson sized back. he always played bigger than he was and ran faster than he was.

if mike bell can be a power runner with his size, he can be the next probowl rb on the denver broncos.

Tatum Bell hasnt had that sign of power yet but if he starts showing it, he will have the job.

it just baffles me to see that Tatum bell is 10 lbs heavier than TD and looked alot smaller and is certainly not as strong.

heres to Mike Bells chances to be the starter

205 lbs. seems a bit small - I would bet that T.D. was closer to 220....

The man was a chisled machine - just his muscle alone seems like it would put him over 205....

I could be wrong though....

I doubt that he was 220. He was not nearly as tall as George, etc. I would believe 205-215 throughout the season.

Mike Bell is 6 foot and 220. Lots of things made TD great. His determination, heart, a self sacrificing nature(going in when he had a migraine) and he always kept his legs moving no matter what. If Mike Bell is that type of player then I am sure he can do great things. I won't jump the gun and say he is the next TD but he has peaked my interest in him.

So far Tatum Bell hasn't shown he wants it but has said he does too many times to count. I always say if you want it show it. You can always say you want something forever but if you don't do anything to get it you never will. Thats what makes the greats who they are they put everything they have into what they want.

Personally I don't care who ends up being a breakout star just as long as one of them steps up and delivers.

Mike Bell is the Mike Bell, and no one else. I'm still waiting to find out whether that's a good thing or a bad thing, but I've been impressed by the things I've heard coming out of camp.

Rookie Bell rings up attention
Undrafted RB out of Arizona draws Shanahan's praise

By Ryan Thorburn, Camera Sports Writer
July 31, 2006

ENGLEWOOD — Believe it or not, the Broncos don't have any plans in the works to retire No. 20.

That doesn't mean the fanchise, try as it might, will ever forget the brief and bizarre Maurice Clarett era.

The potentially good news for Mike Shanahan is that after six training camp practices wearing the now infamous jersey, running back Mike Bell has already accomplished more in the NFL as an undrafted free agent than Denver's regrettable third-round pick from Ohio State.

Unlike Clarett — currently unemployed but making plans to play in the fledgling Eastern Indoor Football League (assuming his looming trial on felony counts of aggravated robbery and carrying a concealed weapon goes well) — Bell seems perfectly suited for the job.

Ron Dayne, Tatum Bell and Cedric Cobbs are all ahead of Mike Bell on the depth chart. But history suggests that the depth chart can be turned upside down quickly at Dove Valley.

It was only four years ago when a confident kid named Clinton Portis was fourth in the pecking order — behind Terrell Davis, Mike Anderson and Olandis Gary — before breaking into the first-team huddle and rushing for 1,508 yards and 15 touchdowns as a rookie.

Not to say that Mike Bell has that kind of speed or swagger. But right now he has something important — the respect of his teammates and the attention of the coaching staff.

"There's many reasons why I signed here, but I think the main reason was just because I see the blocking scheme," Mike Bell said after turning some heads on the sideline and ankles on the field with his cutting ability during Sunday's practices. "The offensive line does a great job and the coaches do a great job. They execute. And when you're in an offense that executes you can be real successful."

Mike Bell didn't have much of an offensive line to run behind in college at Arizona, a program on the rise under Mike Stoops taking its lumps in the Pac-10 of late. Despite the team's struggles, he finished his career ranked fourth on the Wildcats' all-time rushing list with 3,163 yards (4.7 per carry) and 17 touchdowns in 46 games.

"He's solid," said Broncos cornerback Karl Paymah, who faced Mike Bell while at Washington State. "Right now he's not letting the whole NFL thing, the pressure, get to him. ... He's doing the little things right. He's being noticed by the coaches, and that's what you've got to do."

It's no secret that Shanahan would like to see Tatum Bell, who has been stiff-arming interview requests coming off the practice field, show some more consistency and use his talents to seize that starting tailback spot before the regular season kicks off. After Sunday's morning practice the head coach provided some more motivation by speaking in glowing terms about the other Bell.

"Mike's having a heck of a camp," Shanahan said. "He really has stepped up and been very impressive. A lot of players see him making plays that they haven't seen for awhile. He's right in the mix."

Dayne appears to be the starter by default at this early stage of camp. The former Heisman Trophy winner had his moments off the bench last season, but the release of Anderson and the reluctance of the team to give Tatum Bell the job have put him in this position.

"I'm just going to go out and play and hopefully do my best to be No. 1," Dayne said last week. "If I'm not, I don't mind splitting it."

Even though it worked last season — Anderson finished with 1,014 yards and Tatum Bell added 921 yards — you get the feeling the Broncos would prefer to have one tailback carrying the load 25-to-30 times per game.

Mike Bell is obviously still a longshot for that role. Making the team as an undrafted free agent would be an accomplishment.

But at least this No. 20 wants to succeed in the business of football and already appreciates the opportunity he has been given.

"The preseason is going to be real crucial for me. I've got to come in healthy, confident and ready to perform," Mike Bell said. "There are established guys here. I can't come with the mindset of just being complacent with where I'm at. Each day I'm trying to move forward.

"Even though they're all good guys, each day I'm trying to move forward."

Sounds to me that the kid has everything. He just needs to stick with it, stay focused, not get sidetracked, and keep doing what he's doing.

This kid is going to be something special
