A problem with the usual source of info
Quote:
Something came up for one of the reporters and he wasn't able to attend camp. The other is having technical difficulties with the internet and is hoping he can post something later. The third has a very busy schedule and doesn't know if he'll have time to post his notes. So it's a case of wait and hope I'm afraid. __________________

Some better news from the mane:
The NET is finally back online here at the hotel. Its been down since yesterday afternoon when we had a storm, so I couldnt post the PM report yesterday either. I will have my full report from this morning up in a few minutes. So hold your breath and hopefully someone will be able to post that report here in a while. __________________

QUARTERBACKS As I told Khan over the phone, I thought Cutler and Plummer both were quite mediocre today, unlike the last several days. Now they weren't horrible, but not quite up to par. Actually Jake started off ok, they worked the rollouts alot today. He had a nice little flik to Alexander in the flat when he was being pressured. It wasnt even a throw, more like a little flick of the ball right before the defender could tag him. Shortly thereafter he made the mistake of throwing across his body on a rollout and he didnt get set, fortuneatly Marshall made a nice leaping catch past Big Al. He had some miscommunication with the recievers, there were a few times when the recievers cut it short and he threw it deep. He was also inaccurate on slants a few times, throwing them high and behind the reciever and threw a deep ball too far for Walker who had beaten Fox. There was anotehr deep ball where again Jake put too much on it and it was almost picked by Hamza Abdullah. Cutler had a nice throw on a post to Terrell, but was a little low and inaccurate on a seam route to Alexander who still caught it. Jay was also inaccurate on a deep comeback, putting it a little too inside and close to the defender. Cutler also had a ball along the sideline that just went out of bounds. The QBs did do some good things though. He had a nice laser that was right on the money to Clark and Shoate had to interfere to prevent the reception. Plummer also had several nice connections with Marshall. BVP was shaky as usual. He did have some nice throws to Adams in particular. Bradlee was picked off for a PICK SIX by D-Will though who correctly anticipated a route and stepped right into the passing lane at the perfect time. RUNNING BACKS This group was solid today. Even Dayne had his moments. Mike Bell continues to show a good combination of power, moves and acceleration once he gets either to the sideline or the hole. Mike Bell's vision continues to be the best of the group and he can cut on a dime. He actually cut back on a toss today, he was outside of the TE and cut all the way back, real quickly, to around the area of the center when he saw that the DT there was pursuing him hard to the corner. Tatum repeatedly beat the defense to the corner and I noticed that he is running with a lower pad level now. He's also finding the creases a little better. There was an inside run where he could have easily bumped into the back of Cooper but he just slithered around and found an opening at the last second. All of the backs fumbled at least once though. I believe Burnsie forced one of them, I didnt see who forced the others. They gave Sapp some carries today but he didnt do anything with them. __________________

more from SoCalBronco...
TIGHT ENDS and WIDE RECIEVERS The undrafted free agent from North Carolina State, Brian Clark continues to do well. He had an excellent practice yesterday afternoon. I stayed for awhile after yesterday and I noticed him there about 20 mins after the field was clear catching balls (as did Adams), and he continued to stay out there when Adams left. He kept doing his thing today. In the early 1 on 1s, he dove on the side line and got a ball past Antwon Rogers. He caught some hitches today. The other memorable big play from Clark was on a deep comeback where he got good seperation from D-Will and hauled it in. Marshall was a beast today. He had three different leaping catches on adjustments to poor balls. He started off slow with a drop on a slant but then went on a tear after that. On that rollout I was talking about earlier in the section on QBs he showed serious hops adjusting to the poor pass and lept to get it over Big Al. Marshall was also used on some reverses today. BVP also threw him a high ball on the sideline and he lept up to get it again. He may be a big guy but he can still jump. He had a similar play against Fox. Finally, he beat Champ on a deep square in route where he went to the post and then at about 15 yards cut inside. He was lauded by the coaches on at least one occasion. Walker also looked good, esp. on deep balls. I wish they were more accurate though. His key play was a deep catch over Fox. Terrell was consistent. I didnt notice Rod much at all in the morning session. Kircus had another good session, especially on the slants. He seems to do very well on slants. I didnt see Watts making mistakes today. In fact he had a nice reception between Lynch and another defender on a ball thrown late. He wasnt thrown a ton of passees though, but that one stands out to me. Scheffler had trouble today getting seperation from defenders. He did have a nice deep cross reception twice on rollouts, but there were a couple times when he did not position himself correctly and the balls were batted away by the defenders. One deflection was by Fergy and I think another was by a backup LB. I didnt really notice other tight ends out there much, although Leach had one nice reception adjusting to a poorly thrown ball. __________________

It's nice to hear that Tatum Bell is atleast making an attempt to run it inside now. He needs to be ALOT tougher in that area for sure. Good to see Mike Bell is still "stepping on the necks" of the competition at RB. If he keeps this up through preseason, IMO he should get the starting nod since Tater and Dayne have shown NOTHING so far. Can't believe I heard that Dayne was "dancing" behind the line on a few plays. Bobby Turner probably **** himself when he saw that.

OFFENSIVE LINE
I thought they were better today as a group, although Corey Jackson gave them some trouble as did Chukwurah near the end of practice. They are still making some nice holes on inside runs, not so much on the outside, although the backs did a nice job of getting there before the defense did today. Hamilton was especially good in run blocking I thought. DEFENSIVE LINE Not as much pass rush as the last few days, although Jackson did get through on a stunt. Jackson also stripped Tatum once. I thought Ekuban was very good at the beginning of practice against the run. The first couple plays, he pursued down the line well and stopped Tatum near the LOS. He did that shortly thereafter to Dayne. Its similar to what Courtney Brown was doing well a few days ago, although I did not notice him much today. M. Myers had one would be sack. The interior of the DL continues to be weak against the inside run and they sometimes overpursue down the line instead of staying in their gaps. I was hoping to notice Burton, the DT from Temple, since he had a tremendous practice yesterday afternoon getting both pressure and being in the middle of a couple run stuffs but he didnt do much today. LINEBACKERS They continue to do a good job of smothering the intermediate area. Coyer is teaching them to read the depth of the QBs drop and to get to differing yard landmarks accordingly. There isnt a whole lot open in the intermediate area as usual. I think it was Webster though that had some trouble getting off blocks and the rookie LBs didnt really stand out today after Hollowell and Vaughn had done well previously. SECONDARY Fox had an off day today. Kircus repeatedly beat him on slants, Walker beat him deep, and Marshall beat him a few times. D-Will was pretty good. He was beaten by Marshall and Kircus a few times but he had that pick six and also broke up an out to Walker and then on the very next play had great coverage on an incompleted throw to Terrell. He generally was making plays out there. He also had good coverage on that ball that Watts caught between him and Lynch. Champ broke up a deep ball today but they didnt challenge him much. Paymah almost intercepted Cutler, but otherwise did not stand out too much. I am really starting to like Hamza Abdullah, he shows good range out there. In yesterday afternoon's practice, he did a nice job of getting to a couple intermediate routes from centerfield and would have laid two guys out and today he almost picked off Jake deep. He's running on the 2nd team at safety along with Curome Cox. Fergy was active and swatted away a few balls, one from Scheffler. SPECIAL TEAMS They finally worked Elam out on Field Goals a little bit and he made every single one, including 3 from what appeared to be either 45 yards or 50 yards, although on his final attempt it hit one of the posts and went in. __________________

And i find it very hard to believe that Dayne was bumping into his blockers and dancing in the backfield.......
you must not pay close attention to running backs then. if there is no hole and a defense has plugged it, theres not much a RB can do back there. it happens to everyone. now if he constantly does it, thats where the problem is... |

With as bad as TBell looked the first couple of days, he has easily separated himself from the other RB's the last few, and looks to be a lock at the #1 back at this point. Mike Bell shows the most progress, and Ron Dayne is showing to be the most consistent. I don't know where you're getting your info from, but reports have already surfaced that at this point, if camp continues to go the way it has been, TBell will be #1, and Mike Bell is pushing Dayne for some carries at the #2 spot. I would expect Dayne to take control of the #21 by the time preseason is winding down, but if Mike Bell keeps showing his ability, he will steal some carries from both Dayne and TBell. Cobbs looks to be the odd man out at this point at the RB position. |
