View Full Version : Draft focus?

After watching the offense play one of their best games this year, I started thinking about the draft and where we should focus our energies.

Apart from the O line, I don't think we need to do much with the offense in the next draft. Maybe a second or third rounder on the O line will suffice and maybe bring in one FA and we are good on that side of the ball.

Now to the defence. I think LB should be the first priority and then safety and then another DL, however I think with Crowder, Moss, Thomas and Dumervil on the line, we are looking much better next year. I was also impressed with Petersons play yesterday and thought he had a pretty good game, with some crucial tackles.

I think the main ingredient for this team is time. They are starting to look a lot better than the team we saw at the start of the season and with a bit of fine tuning and a good draft, I think we can win the West with ease next year.

I agree for the most part. I think DT is our biggest need, specifically at NT, and if Sam Adams does not return, we need two NTs.

I'd then put Free Safety as a top need, followed by SAM LB, followed by KR/PR specialist. Longer term needs would be WILL LB, OT depth, and secondary depth.

I agree with you that at DE, we should be good for years to come.

MUG what is your opionon of sam adams? If he was offered a cheap contract as a part time player im defiently down.

It absolutely depends on what we do. He's the only thing resembling a NT that we have, and he's very limited with no upside whatsoever. This offseason, it looks very difficult to obtain 2 new NT-types, so I think I'd make a huge push to keep Adams, even if we have to overpay.

Our DEs are so one-dimensional that we MUST have run-stuffing DTs.

Yeah i am mixed on Sam i think he is pretty darn explosive off the snap. can eat blocks but if we keep him he is a liablity getting on and off the field if we rotated him. and if we did keep him DT would not be such a priority in lower rounds.

Sam Adams is done. He will not be back next season, so replacing him will be a top priority.

I see quite a few needs on this team, and enough of them to not care which way we go on draft day, as long as it isn't a player like a quarterback, cornerback, fullback, punter, kicker, defensive end or offensive guard early.

I'd take any wide receiver, linebacker, running back, offensive tackle, defensive tackle or safety early - if they're a quality player and worth the selection.

Denver will almost certainly address a need or two (of these) in free agency, so we'll have a better outlook in draft day.

There is good value at most of these positions, and it'll be better when juniors declare. Denver has a lot of day two selections (two fourths, fifths and sevenths) and could really come away with a strong showing.

Honestly, I wouldn't mind pairing up those late seventh-rounders with other selections to move around and get in higher and better position. More than likely, they wouldn't make the team. If we could come away with five quality selections in this draft, that's be excellent.

In my mocks, I indicated my area's of concern in order from important to least (top tier) and added my "wishful" picks.

If the Broncos go any route of the aforementioned positions one Day One, I won't care.

As much as I'd like to see some defensive help, I wouldn't doubt the Broncos adding more weapons around Cutler. Get him another young receiver, get him a REAL back (top talent, not some mid-level guy) and some offensive tackle protection and this offense could be scary.

It's already turning the corner, it could get a lot better. Our offense is turning the corner with some points lately, and things are starting to mesh. That's with a lot of second and third string players seeing action. Imagine what we could do with some youth and better talent in there.

Our defense is statistically one of the worst in the league so I think we'll still see some emphasis there.

I'd prefer one nice offensive and defensive player on Day One since we're lacking a selection. With four picks between #100 to #150 (without compensatory figured in, which we won't get any, but still) that'll give us some real good options as well. That's six players in the top #150, without any trades being made. That's quality. I expect us to be aggressive and try and make some moves.

It'll be interesting for sure. As long as they're quality players and good value at the positions I mentioned, I really couldn't care less. You have to be as objective as possible. Say the Broncos really need a linebacker, but there's a talent at position "X" that they have as a top twelve to fifteen talent and they're picking at #20 - they have to consider that option.

Bring back memories of 2006!

7th rounder for Plummer. 4th round if he had played for tampa (he never did)

Also, a great post earlier by Dream. As much as i would love to see this defense become steller, Shanahan has always favored a dynamic offense that out scores their opponents. If our defense can hold everyone to under 20, then Shanahan is happy. So i wouldn't be surprised to see us focus more on offense than last years draft.

No matter what, i am anxious to see how we address our offseason needs and how we keep building through youth! :D
