Eh, no starters tonight but I thought we might need a thread anyway. Since nobody else put one up, I suffered from thread starteritis again. :P

I'm looking forward to watching Hillis and Alridge.

They say it went out on the 7, but still very nice.

Lichtensteiger got mauled on that third and short. But their starters versus our backups is tough.

No wrong or right, we hadn't seen much of the kid due to the injury.

I would like to point out that he always falls forward, not bad for a 185lb back.

Javalon

How many people were nervous when Prater kicked? I'm glad he seems to have gotten more consistent.

You know, he missed that first kick of the preseason from 30 yards and a lot of people panicked. But he's made everything since then except for a 49-yarder in the rain.

If we can count on him from 45 yards and shorter, then he's no worse than Elam. But Prater can also boom those kickoffs.

The only question will be how he performs with a game on the line in the regular season.

You know.. I wasn't thinking there would be a spot for him on the roster. But when you look at what he is doing in his first shot (even though it is against the scrubs).. you would have to think that there is a place for his playmaking type speed, despite his size. I think he would make a great lil slot. If he can catch.. great for reverses, flats, and screen passes.

Its hard to tell if guys like Paymah and Foxworth are playing on a night like tonight. Who knows what they have been told or the 'feeling' they get from being with the real practices.

Its the fourth pre-season game. They are wanting to get ready for the regular season as much as anyone and everyone else. They want to start resting. They want to be out of the game.. and they aren't taking it seriously (if they feel/know they aren't fighting for a roster spot).

So I don't think this is the game to judge them on.

The first quarter was all against the Cardinals' starters. :salute:

I think they could stick him in the slot now and then but I still like him as a change of pace running back. His speed and acceleration, plus break-neck cutting ability, would be a big switch from our other backs. Not on a lot of plays but just a few now and then, especially against agressive, over-pursuing defenses.

I wonder what the ref was talking to Hackney about at the end there...

Maybe something along the lines of "You should have probably tried to run out of bounds in this situation.."

probably telling him that if he wants any sort of life expectancy in the league, he should try sliding once in a while.

I hope you are right, but they still shouldn't be getting obliterated like this

Well, I think it's safe to say that our backups are pretty far from adequate. The run defense looks very good so far (well except for that Arrington draw play there at the end). The pass rush is still pretty pathetic and the defense can't get off the field on third down. Foxy and Paymah are downright disappointing. It's obvious both are trying to play like Champ (always lining up at a 45 degree angle to the WR instead of head up, always looking at the QB even in man coverage, etc. Champ can get away with these things because he's a badass, but these two aren't athletic enough and the WRs are just running by them - and what ever happened to jamming a WR at the LOS every now and again? The Cards' WRs are getting a free release EVERY TIME! I'd like to see them sit the second half and have JMFW start to see if he can at least contain the pass a little.

Alridge looks really good, though. He's our own little Darren Sproles. I really hope we keep this guy around. I have a bad feeling that if he's released, he'll be claimed before he can be put on our practice squad.

I think Abdullah is the better player. I've seen him laying the wood on a couple of players and add into it the fumble recoveries, the fact that he looked so good in camp before his injury that Lynch wanted to leave(because McCree was coming in for him), I think he gets it back.

I like Abdullah's size and speed and I believe he has more upside than Manual, and with Manual's injured finger, he may even start the season. And once he's in, he isn't giving it up.

One of the fears I had with Alridge was that he would get tied up in the backfield trying to dance around. But I'm noticing that he is getting to the line so fast he really isn't losing yards on any plays (maybe 1 yard every once in a while, but usually he is at least getting to the line).

But I actually think this game has changed my mind on him, and believe we should keep him and try to find plays to get the ball in his hands in space. yeah yeah... but its STILL the fourth pre-season game. Starters or not.. I think we know that the guys out there aren't the team we would be facing. I mean, our second string OL and 3rd string RBs wouldn't just 'run over' the starters for the opposing team.. no matter what. They are sitting players they don't 'really' need just as we are.

Like I said.... I think there is a way for this guy to be a value to the starting offense, but if he TRULY is this 'dominating' against the starters, we wouldn't be talking bout him making the team, we would be talking about him being the starter.

I'm looking forward to seeing what kind of dynamic we use him as.

When it comes to Pears... sometimes that happens with certain tackles when they haven't worked with a QB very often. They get very 'in tune' to the pattern of the cadence of the QB. If they can't quite hear, they get a lil jumpy because its almost 'on rhythm' that the play starts.

man if we can get this pass rush during the regular season our defense will flipping OWN!!!

It's been either all or nothing tonight, though. Either guys are flying untouched to the QB or the QB has all day. It's very inconsistent.

Everyone can gripe about paying Niko that money, but if he plays STs like that all year and helps us out like he has tonight, MONEY WELL SPENT!

Yea if it was consistant however I really think we'd be amazing (and honestly I have to wonder if shanny is holding it back to keep from showing his hand before the season starts)

If this game was the deciding factor, then Paulescu has to get the nod at punter. Yet another deep punt and, while a little deeper than the coverage, he also kept it on the sideline so it was easier for the coverage to get back into the play.

See what I mean about the pass rush? That PI was on the D-line, not on Barrett. When you've got to cover for 10 seconds.

JMFW PICK SIX TD!!!!!!!!!:rockon::rockon::rockon:
