GO AVS!! :peace::peace::peace:

I hope last night's game is indicative of how they'll be playing all season. They looked sharp.

And, like so many other Denver teams, the pundits are predicting them to finish last once again. Let's prove them wrong with another team!!

Adam Deadmarsh night would be cool, I was sad to see him go.
Also Uwe Krupp night is special as it was his overtime goal that gave Denver its first major championship, not that the Avs wouldn't have eventually won it anyway we were up 3 games to none and St. Patrick was a wall for us.

The win over Boston today was great. Even though I still get nightmares with this team. Last year was brutal. We would get a lead and by the end of the third we'd have thrown in all away. Pissed me off to no end. This is such a brutal schedule right now. Hardes/longest road streak of the year. But if we can come out split then we are sitting pretty good.

The loss to Nashville was like the Avs of last year. Get a lead and blow it. The loss to Chicago was tough to swallow as well. But we are in each loss we have had so can't complain too much I guess.

And by the way we are technically 3-1-1. Of course the shootout is still a loss but we at least get a point for it. : )

I got to take a picture with Lord Stanley's Cup one time. I was in Denver for some training for a former employer and a buddy and I happened to stumble upon a photo opportunity for fans at a mall. Luckily I was wearing my Avs jersey at the time. It was awesome, some people were touching it and kissing it but I just stood next to it. Like many players I don't believe in touching the cup unless you earn it.

I too got my pic taken with it at the 2001 All Star Game Fanfest. I did kiss it, and dang near lifted it over my head, but that would have been taking it too far. I did ask what would happen if I did lift it, and was told I would be escorted out of the building. My respose was I am leaving now anyway so that would not effect me. You should have seen the look on their face when I said that.

I know its still real early in the season and there is a lot of hockey left , but this team looks VERY GOOD! Anderson just got his second shutout in the young season and he looks like a legit Vezina candidate, and I've been very impressed with Joe Sacco so far.......... Long way to go though.

I just think it's funny that the Avs dropped 2 spots in the ESPN power rankings because the guy "has a feeling" they won't look so good later this season.

Well, the Avs have won more games on the road so far than they've PLAYED at home, including last night's shutout. I know it's early, but this team looks solid. As long as they stay healthy, we could be a surprise contender come playoff time.

Now let's beat Calgary. GO AVS!!

One thing im not liking about this team is the insane amount of shots against they allow... You could combine roy broduer plante and hasek into one super goalie and they wouldnt be able to withstand the barrage of pucks this team allows to get through to anderaon... Thats my only true observation i can make about this team as ive only been able to watch parts of the last two games

Well you're not totally wrong. They just lost to the sharks (can't win em all) and the have up an insane amount of shots on goal, over 40. That hasent necessarily been the case in every game though. I think our problem tonight was we just didn't get enough shots of our own on goal. Plus we missed some good opportunities to score. Still very pumped for this team and where its going.

An article i read the other day showed that we allow the most shots per game... At the time of the article it was 35 and all the teams close to us in that stat were at the bottom of the league... Theres only so long we can rely on Anderson to win games for us... We need some serious defensive help if we expect to make the playoffs... Given that stat alone its clear why ESPN dropped us in tue power rankings

Im wondering why we have such crappy attendance so far.

The Avs used to be the hottest ticket in town. Unfortunately its also the most expensive isn't it? And I don't think they've dropped prices. couple that with the economy and the fact that they haven't been real competative the last few seasons and that may be a couple of reasons. Also with the Nuggets having success and the fact that their prices are so low may also be a factor. I've never been to a game myself but I'd love to. I just can't get up north very often.

I think some of it is a side effect of the lockout a few years ago, the year off lost some fans of the sport, myself included. Another issue is the sports exposure level is below par. If I'm not mistaken the same amount of people have the oppurtunity to watch a UFL game as an NHL game. To me that has alot to do with why alot more people don't attend the games.

Very true. I miss the days when the ESPN networks would carry 3 to 4 games a week. I absolutely loved the way Gary Thorne would call a game.

Very true. I miss the days when the ESPN networks would carry 3 to 4 games a week. I absolutely loved the way Gary Thorne would call a game.

When ESPN no longer carried NHL is when I stopped watching as much. I used to watch hockey even when the Avs weren't playing. I would watch the Devils because Brodeur was the closest thing to Roy you could get after he retired. I would watch any game playing because the sport was awesome. But now after that year off, and NHL no longer being easily accessible, the passion is no longer what it was.

The worst thing the NHL did was not take whatever deal ESPN offered them to continue airing games. Sure VS. may have offered them more money, but in the long run, I believe it cost the NHL a lot more money than taking the ESPN offer. I miss having that passion for the NHL that I used to have as a child growing up watching players like Roy, Sakic, Forseberg, Gretzky, Lemieux, Broduer, Felix Potvin, Keith Tkachuk, Jeremy Roenick... The list could go on, but I'm tired of Google Chrome telling me I'm having spelling errors :-p.

I certainly believe that the lack of exposure is what is killing this league. I know if I were able to watch a good portion of games I would be more likely to spring for an $80 ticket. The tickets are far too expensive for the amount of exposure the league has. That is why I think attendance throughout the league is down. Like someone else said, the team hasn't been great in the last few years, while the Nuggets have been, which adds an extra burden to the problem of attendance at Avs games.

I also lost interest after the lockout. I used to get the 14 game Avs pack. After that, I would only go to the games when the Avs and Broncos played the same day.
You can find cheap tickets though, and I did attend the Avs vs. Oilers game. It was a lot emptier than it was a few years ago. There were a lot of Oiler fans, which I was quite shocked about. They were louder than the Avs fans.
I do plan to attend a few more games, since you can find good deals for tickets. Plus the team looks a lot better with a new coach and young players.

I do think Anderson needs a few more breaks, he is on pace for a 70 game season, and with the pounding he takes, i doubt he can hold up.

I dont know. We were supposedly in the running for Kovelchuk, but no longer. I know liles and svatos are on the block, tucker too. But I like Liles and dont want to see him ousted. But if we could get bigger and meaner in the Dzone, or get one more elite winger-then its worth it.

IMO- we have a bunch of above average, but no superstars, (yet) that strike fear into the other teams for scoring.....like a kovelchuck, crosby, iginla or even Joe before he retired.

This'll be my little entry into the Avs thread. I was a huge fan of the Avalanche growing up during the Cup years. I stopped watching the year Patrick left. It just felt wrong seeing Peter, Milan, Joe, and Adam out there without the guy in goal.

When I heard we picked up Anderson, I finally started watching the Avs again after so many years in hiatus.

Call me a fairweather if you like, but I'm glad the organization seems to have collected their ^%$# together. When Svatos and Adam get back healthy, this is gonna be an exciting team. Duchene looks young but promising! Chris Stewart is a man, and what can you say about Stastny. That guy is just old school.

I agree with another poster--I thought we still should've gone after Kovalchuck. Maybe that's not a closed subject (hopefully not). That would certainly push us into Cup contention though...

Thanks guys, and sorry for the garrulous message!

Hey amigo. Svatos is gone. He will not be here next year. We have wanted to trade him for a while, and just the other day he requested a trade. He is gone, unfortunately so is liles. Who I really really like. But its happening.

Svatos is overrated though. He has all the skill in the world, but he stops moving his feet when he breaks in the zone and all the d guy has to do is stand him up and he is done for.

The rest I can go for and am happy you are watching the avs again!

I haven't posted in here yet.

I was a bit shy about watching the Avs at the beginning of the season, but I got tickets to their 3rd home game against the Bruins and I was sold.

It's unfortunate about JML, because he really has tons of potential. Sacco just doesn't want to play someone who only uses that potential 65% of the time.

Duchene has really came on, Cumisky is great, Chris Stewart might be one of the best wings in the NHL right now.

My ONLY complaint is the line changes still seem a little sloppy, and their transition D gives up a lot of SOG. I'd also like to see a little more puck cycling and moving in the first two periods.

we need another big time goal scorer. And we also need another mean nasty on defense. A lot of our D guys are good, but most are more finess than anything. The Hard nose guys we have a getting a bit older and as a result have lost a step. Guys like footey, hannan, salei.....We need to add another force back there, preferably younger.

IMO- most of the time I see the mistakes in our D zone, clearing the puck out. We get posession and make a bad pass or blind look and turn it over....That will come with exp. and time, but to me thats the big one...

On offense, we always always go to the outside. Which is good to gain the zone and whatnot, but we never ever challenge or take it up the middle. Other teams defenses know this about us as well. Great evidence is the OT goal by Cummers. He broke in, cut across the middle and the D just watched him. Once he realized that teams give us the middle a lot more often than it looks, he took it in and burried it!

they do, they also need to stop turning over the puck in the defensive zone. It is driving me off the muther freaking wall. I swear almost all the goals that have been scored by the last 4 teams have come off of us turning it over in our zone and the other team retaking possesion and eventually scoring.

This is further illustrated by our great penalty killing as of late. When we get the puck on a P-kill- we send it. Then we trap stand them up and move toward the puck. No blind passes, no looking or fancy sh**. Just get the puck and chip it out. We are rocking that.

but when its evens, we do worse, we make no look passes, or get fancy. We just need to clear our zone, then break it out. If we got time to break out great, if not lets clear it out, and use our speed.

I agree 100%. We always look good on the PK, maybe its because they are forced basically to be focused? I don't really know. The turnovers in the d-zone really make me scream too.

This might be a good thing. I could cause someone to step up that otherwise would not try as hard.

The way hockey works is the last offensive player to touch the puck gets the credit for the goal. In this case it was O'Reilly.

Thats true. Even though the defense has blocked 20+ shots themselves the last two games, we can't let them have the opportunity to take that many shots. If you count blocked shots and missed shots, San Jose had close to 100 shot attempts last night.

I think Ryan Wilson needs to be benched for Brett Clark. Wilson is showing that he is a rookie in these playoffs. Last night he had way to many no-look passes in our zone that went straight to a Sharks player.
