JAVON WALKER!

Of all Al Davis' looney moves this one had to be the worst.

Raiders unload Javon Walker, Greg Ellis

Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on March 8, 2010 6:18 PM ET
The worst contract in the history of free agency is no longer active.

The Raiders finally cut Javon Walker Monday and dumped defensive end Greg Ellis while they were at it, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Walker was named the biggest free agent bust ever by the NFL Network, and we can't disagree. His contract was particularly egregious because it was obvious in 2007 Walker had nothing left physically. The guy was benched for Glenn Martinez in Denver.

(I actually wrote a post at the time in my former life calling it the worst contract ever. Blind squirrels, nuts, and all that.)

Oakland paid Walker $21 million over the last two years and got 15 catches in return. He may wind up in someone's camp this year, but it wouldn't be a surprise if he's played his last regular season snap.

Ellis actually started his Raiders career well enough, but knee troubles slowed him down late in the season.

I have always liked Walker, and every one who goes to the raiders seems to suck, except for some few players. So he would have done somewhat better on another team.

Also a BIG reason he went good to bad was a certain player on our team Dwill, died in his arms and lap, while Walker was saying "don't die on me"

would you ever be your same self again? I think not

Guy above me beat me to the punch. You really are gonna fault a guy who had another person murdered in his arms? Apparently, all he could say the night of the murder was "He gave me his chain" referring to D-Wills chain. I feel bad for the guy, maybe he should have never been signed for that much money, but he should be kept in all of our prayers.

This thread is more about making fun of Oakland's stupidity for signing him to such a huge contract.

It all fell apart when another human being died in his arms, cant really blame the guy.

The Raiders and accurate judgement of potential go together like oil and water.

I have the deepest sympathies for Javon though. Good luck in whatever he may do.

All the above posts are valid. And I agree with them also. When Walker was in Denver I really liked him and thought he could be a top WR. I still have his jersey.

But this thread was aimed at the stupidity of Al Davis and the Raiders FO.

Put the off the field stuff to the side.....

Davis still made Walker one of the highest paid WR's at the time after having serious injuries over and over.

And when Walker offered to retire and payback Davis the absurd money he paid him...Davis turned it down.

Just stupid!

QFT.

I've felt nothing but sadness for Javon. The physical injuries he's had are one thing, but the mental scars are much worse.

Javon was a baller. If he had managed to stay the course, the Raiders move wasn't bad at all.

Just stupid!I dunno, Walker was coming out of a pretty rough spell. Some say stupid, others may say compassionate.

Now signing him in the in the first place, that was stupid.

Walker has had one of the saddest careers in the nfl. He came in with all the talent to be a top of the line wr, then had injuries plague his career. Then of course the mental trauma of having Dwill die in his arms. Poor guy can't catch a break.

But as far as his signing with the raiders, it just proves Al Davis is insane.

That was the whole point of this thread.

Regardless of what sad things he had to deal with in his life...

Him on the football field was NEVER worth the money the Raiders gave him. And definitely a dumb move to not take it back when he offered.

Davis should of let Javon give back the money and walk away from the game if he wanted to instead of convincing him to stay.

Ya its sad, he was never the same after that night... I feel for him... could u imagine a healthy Walker and Marshall right now?... they would destroy teams! Would be fun to watch for sure...

He was worth it in 2006 when he was healthy... 69 rec for 1084 yds and 8 tds... Averaged over 15 yds a catch and a long of 83 yds... pretty nice!

Davis should of let Javon give back the money and walk away from the game if he wanted to instead of convincing him to stay.Davis is said to be an extremely loyal guy and, without knowing the content of the conversation, it's really hard to address motive. When I first heard about it out here, it really sounded like Walker may have been giving up on life, not allowing him to walk was Davis's way of not allowing Walker to give up on himself -- an incredibly humanitarian move. Sure, on paper, it was a dumb move. Davis has never let appearances get in the way of what he thinks is right -- relationships with those around him come first. Of course it could be that Davis was being senile, we'll never know.

Signing him wasn't stupid, the contract was. Best way to put that into perspective.

Thank you! Why couldn't I just say that? :salute:I've noticed that it usually takes 3 or 4 Bronco fans to complete a thought. Don't feel bad though, it's better than Charger fans can muster up. :P

I'm glad he got to abuse the Raiders and get as much money out of them as possible. I hope the best for him.
