Figured this place was in need of one... anybody willing to talk tennis welcome!

Currently in the early rounds of Wimbledon. No major upsets so far, though Federer has struggled a bit. Mahut and Isner playing an absolute cracker meanwhile, 53-53 in the final set with no end in sight in a game that has now lasted NINE HOURS. Records being smashed left, right and centre!

I love tennis. Imo its honestly one of the most physically demaning sports around. You have to be in excellent shape to play it. And its an independent sport which is great because yor all on your own unlike team sports. Its also great to watch.

I just started playing two years ago and really enjoy it. Thanks for starting this thread cp to you.

Whats been going on with wimbeldon so far, havent got a chance to check it out.

Not a big tennis fan, but I do enjoy watching a match or two from time to time. I gotta give it up to the athletes though. These guys and gals are some of the best conditioned athletes around. And as for the marathon match that has been going on for the last 2 days, I can't believe these two are still at it. Neither giving in and both fighting till the end. But what really gets me is Isner, I can't get over the fact that he is 6'9" and that athletic. Not sure if an NBA forward at that height would have that kind of agility.

Cheers, i figured there were a few others who would like to talk tennis and it turns out i might be right :D

No major upsets as of yet, Nadal, Murray, Djokovic and Federer have all won the matches they were expected to. Although Federer hasnt been great, he ended up going 5 sets against a non-seeded opponent, Falla, in the 1st round and struggled a bit against another non-seeded opponent, Bozolijac, yesterday but won in 4 sets.

The big news at wimbledon so far is that John Isner and Nicholas Mahut are playing a game that is currently poised at 59-59 in the final set, has lasted 10 hours, and is going into its third day today.

It really is unbelievable. Both of these lads are setting a number of records that will NEVER be broken. just to put it into perspective, this match is now longer than 6 and a half soccer matches put together. and counting.

Another year passes and same result. Deja vu. At least Murray got a bit further this year making the semis.

I've just tuned in to the final.

Federer or Nadal to win?

Yah. I thought we were in for a match when Federer won the first three games, but it's been all Rafa ever since.

He's looking good to equal Borg's record of 6 French titles.

I'd like to see this one go at least four sets, so I'm rooting for him to pull this one out of the bag.

There's no beating a fit Nadal on clay, he is an absolute God on the surface, Federer did well to take it to 4 sets, which he hasn't done to Nadal on clay since 07 when he was in his prime.

Bodes well for Federer at the greatest stage of them all in Wimbledon. Hope that him and Nadal are seeded to meet in the final and do so, would love another classic. Their final in 08 was one of the greatest sporting events I have ever witnessed, absolutely amazing stuff.

Twenty years today I was at Wimbledon.

Four champs and a runner up I had the pleasure of watching on centre court that day.

Agassi's game was the most entertaining, but Becker,Graf, Novotna and Lendl were pretty awesome too.

It had been the wettest week in Championship History. No play at all on the first four days.
Had things gone to plan it would have been some third round matches we would be watching but instead we were treated to a jam packed 5 game schedule instead of the usual three.
We arrived at 11 and had nine hours solid almost of tennis.
Only 40 minutes rain late afternoon, just enough time to get up and go to the loo and test those famous strawberries and cream.

A memorable day :D

I have my earplugs on standby for both the women's semis and the final.
Please no Sharapova v Azarenka final! I don't think I can stand the noise.
So, I'm going to route for the two underdogs today, although saying that I don't think the German girl has much of a shot v Sharapova.
Kvitova the Czech girl has a far better shot v Azarenka IMO.

Are you one of those with the "Sharapova syndrome"?
I'm told her presence on a court suddenly gets the attention of those who are otherwise disinterested ;)

I'm a Bethany Mattek Sands guy

But no, I'll watch it anytime it's on, but typically only when I don't feel like changing the channel... That's because up until yesterday I hadn't taken the time to figure out how the scoring works  Still some things I need to figure out for sure though.

Djokovic to win it all. Really upset Murray went out today, no doubt if that was Tim Henman with even 80% of Murray's talent he would have seen that game through because the crowd wouldn't just deflate after he dropped one service game. Murray didn't deserve to win, but he's probably more at home in the US Open crowds than he is in the UK.

Djokovic did really well to supress Tsonga, he's mentally very tough, which is surpising as he caved last year. I think he can win it this year.
