RIP Kenny.

Suicide is a real problem for our youth when they can't handle life or the things that life dictates to them.

I have a very dear friend whose nephew couldn't stay off coke and ended up shooting himself in the head. The family was totally devastated.

With that being said, what sad sad news. Terrible situation and thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends.

Report: Broncos receiver Kenny McKinley found dead
Posted by Mike Florio on September 20, 2010 9:03 PM ET

Josina Anderson of FOX 31 in Denver reports that Broncos receiver Kenny McKinley has been found dead, apparently due to a suicide.

The 23-year-old McKinley, a fifth-round pick in 2009 from South Carolina, appeared in eight games last season before landing on injured reserve. He was again placed on injured reserve to start the 2010 season.

At South Carolina, McKinley caught 207 passes, and he generated more than 2,700 receiving yards.

Our thoughts and condolences go out to McKinley's family, teammates, and friends, and to the entire Broncos organization.

RIP Kenny :salute:

I'm a University of South Carolina student(senior this year) so i got to see Kenny play my freshman year and he was GREAT being our all time leading receiver and was STOKED when we picked him up. I cant get over this as the whole Carolina community is mourning for a great person and a great gamecock. I had the opportunity of actually partying with Kenny my freshman year and this is ridiculous!

Couple things from Twitter:

RT @Adam_Schefter: No NFL team has been hit harder than Denver. Darrent Williams. Damien Nash. Kenny McKinley. RIP.

RT @Adam_Schefter: Pat Bowlen: “Everyone w/ Broncos is shocked and saddened by loss of Kenny McKinley. He was part of Broncos’ family, will be greatly missed"

RT @PostBroncos: McKinley attended the USC-Georgia game in Athens on Saturday. I have been told he returned to Denver with his young son on Sunday.

RT @PostBroncos: I was just looking at his locker today and was wondering how he was doing. Noticed a lot of pictures of him with his young son.

"Kenny had a promising future on the football field, but more importantly, he was a great teammate whose smile and personality could light up the room," Broncos coach Josh McDaniels said in a statement. "This is a tragic loss for our football team, and his family is in all of our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time."

This is the exact point I am making.......my baby sister took her life 16 years ago...... My parent still arent the same, and I still to this day think about the hole that she left in all our lives.....What makes it even worse is cause it was most likely over some bs piddly thing.....

What a shame..

Fox 31 in Denver is reporting that Broncos WR Kenny McKinley has committed suicide.
McKinley is the third Broncos player to pass away suddenly in the past four years. CB Darrent Williams was killed in a drive-by shooting, and RB Damien Nash collapsed suddenly at a charity basketball event. McKinley was on injured reserve for a recurring knee ailment at the time of his death. Our thoughts and prayers go out to McKinley's family and friends and the entire Broncos organization.

My condolences go out to Kenny's family and close friends. It is sad anytime someone passes away. When it is in this nature it is even more difficult as people often wonder if there is something they could have done to help prevent this tragedy.

I pray for strength within the family to remember Kenny for everything he did and not his moment of weakness.

Just now finding out about this. What a shock and what a tragedy. It's impossible to understand what someone is really going through on the inside and the decision to take ones own life seems sudden and inexplicable to us but for the deceased it might be the end of a very long and painful journey. Sadly, it doesn't change the fact that it's the wrong thing to do and truly defines "forever."

Our perceptions shape the reality we perceive. It does not have to be only one way.
It is sad that a man of such talent, health, and promise would throw away the precious gift of life.

I have had a near death experience. It changed my entire outlook and perspective...
the way I perceive this existance... this gift God has given me.

I know I am a fortunate man... even though I am not wealthy or famous.

I do not base my self worth by comparing myself to others... yet I do have it so much better than so many people.
There are people in this world whose struggles I can not comprehend, who battle daily demons I do not face.

It is incumbant on us all to look inward and find an appreciation for this gift.
The consciousness we all have within us... that self awareness...
it is the manifestation of the Universal Consciousness we call GOD. It is inside each and every one of us.

Do good deeds. Enact random bits of kindness.
Spread happiness and good will. Offer a hand to somone in need.
Offer a part of yourself to someone who seems to need nothing.
Place a high value on honesty. Be a good friend.
Smile more. Love more. Dance more. Be more.

Life is short... death is long.
Grab ahold of the reins and ride it for all it is worth.

One day chicken... next day feathers.

Experiences shape the man, but do not dictate his future.
Strive every day, to be a better man tommorrow than you were today.

RIP Mr. McKinley

You checked out way too soon, bro.

ya its terrible still, but i just cant for the life of me see how people making 500k+ a year have financial issues (if true)

some of these guys really need to make better choices in life and thats what the rookie symposium is suppose to teach them but you still see these sad stories of people making all this money and end up blowing it (though i dont know how mckinley lived)

they need have people help them, the NFL should almost have a mandatory symposium for each team every year and not just rookies before they even sign a huge contract

its tragic but most americans get by with less than 100k a year, these guys need to learn a lesson

edit: i did watch the espn video online and josina said nobody knew of depression or any reason this would happen, hopefully his little boy can be taken well care of, its so sad that he didnt have a reason to live right there, i cant imagine ever leaving my kids when i have them because something in my life wasnt right

Last year I received a decent amount of money that the average 18 year old probably wouldn't usually carry around and It wasn't long before I burnt a whole in my pocket.

Imagine some of these rookies who probably hadn't had any big amounts of money in their lives finally get paid.

It probably gets pretty bad.

I can't judge McKinley because I didn't know him.

Of course what he did was foolish but ultimately that was his choice and as dark as it sounds I guess we just have to respect that.

I have known people who have committed suicide It's a terrible thing.

By the CNN Wire Staff
September 21, 2010 12:56 a.m. EDT
(CNN) -- Denver Broncos head coach Josh McDaniels will speak to the media Tuesday about the death of wide receiver Kenny McKinley.

McKinley was found dead Monday afternoon in a Colorado home. Authorities said it appeared the young wide receiver died from a self-inflicted gun shot wound.

He was 23.

"Deputies discovered a male in the second-floor master bedroom of the home and determined that male was deceased," the Arapahoe County sheriff's department said in a statement. "Although the death of Mr. McKinley appears to be the result of a self-inflicted gunshot, the investigation into this matter ... is ongoing."

McKinley was selected by the Broncos in the fifth round (141st overall) of the 2009 NFL draft from the University of South Carolina. He attended South Cobb High School in Austell, Georgia.

He played in eight games with the Broncos as a rookie, but was placed on injured reserve before the start of the 2010 season after suffering a knee injury, according to the team.

"Everyone with the Broncos is shocked and saddened by the loss of Kenny McKinley," Broncos President and CEO Pat Bowlen said in a statement on the Broncos' website. "He was part of the Broncos family and will be greatly missed by our organization. My most heartfelt condolences go out to Kenny's family and friends."

McKinley is at least the third Bronco to have died since 2007. Cornerback Darrent Williams, 24, was fatally shot near downtown Denver, Colorado, on January 1, 2007. Running back Damien Nash, 24, died after collapsing at a charity basketball game later that winter.

McDaniels, the Broncos coach, called the death tragic.

"Kenny had a promising future on the football field, but more importantly, he was a great teammate whose smile and personality could light up the room. This is a tragic loss for our football team, and his family is in all of our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time," McDaniels said.

I am so sad. Loved him from college days and i was so happy that we drafted him. May GOD bless you and your loved ones. Love you braddah Kenny.

From rotoworld:

Broncos WR Kenny McKinley has committed suicide.

McKinley is the third Bronco to pass away suddenly in the past four years. CB Darrent Williams was killed in a drive-by shooting, and RB Damien Nash collapsed suddenly at a charity basketball event. McKinley was on injured reserve for a recurring knee ailment at the time of his death. He was reportedly experiencing depression after being placed on injured reserve and was also going through financial issues. Our thoughts and prayers go out to McKinley's family and friends and the Broncos organization.

So sad that he didn't just talk to someone.

At the Niners game, the only game i can make, i will be chanting his name as the Broncos come out of the tunnel as a reminder of his presence he had in the Denver Broncos. If anyone is going, i would like you to join me.

How will the Broncos show respect for him on Sunday? It's an away game right?

I wonder if one of our receivers will be allowed to wear #11 (remember what Ocho did for Henry)?

if so, which receiver do you think will wear it?

hopefully they'll be allowed to do something or wear something in remembrance.

It's a home game, and they are slated for a Floyd Little HOF ceremony at halftime. I have no doubt they will do something.

ah... well maybe i ought to pay closer attention to our schedule. :fail:

I heard from Rotoworld that he suffered chronic depression and was going through severe financial problems

top that with his football problems and probably other personal problems.

Yeah, as somebody whom has bi polar disorder, and has had more suicidal thoughts in my lifetime than I'd like, I can't help but think of what he must have went through. I think there will be some ignorance in regards to his death, and people won't be able to understand how a human being could come to this point. Personally, I wish nobody would be able to understand, because that would mean nobody would ever be at that point.

The reality is that it is often more than just one thing, there are lots of things that add up. I recall reading of a soccer player killing himself over a year ago just because he had found out he had clinical depression and he was afraid his kid would be taken away from him. Something like that would very likely make somebody feel as if they are doing the world a favor.

If, indeed he does have this, I'd encourage everybody on here to do something in regards to mental illness. Donate to things related to it, educate yourself. I think the best thing anybody could do, as fans of Kenny McKinley and the Broncos is just to try and figure out a way so there are this guy is the last guy, even if you know the result isn't going to be what we'd want it. Help try to get rid of this stigma that exists that makes it hard for people, almost especially those in any spotlight, can say "hey, this is something I have, and this is something that I deal with.".

As Bronco fans, we've dealt with some loss the last few years. The best way to deal with this loss, is to take a stand. Because many people die from violence, gang violence, domestic violence, whatever There are people whom die because of heart conditions and there are those whom take there own lives. I'm repeating myself, but if this saddens you as a fan, to see a player that you used to root for on Sundays, die all of the sudden, then just take a stand. I know it's easier for us to root for people when the lights are on, and it's all fun but sometimes it blinds us from the reality that the lights aren't always on, and that's often the times when people need people rooting for them the most, and cheering them on.

Kenny McKinley, he will be missed, I only wish the man knew it.

I am a big Broncos fan and St. Louis Cardinals fan.

In the past decade, my two favorite teams have lost a combined 5 players (Darryl Kyle, Josh Hancock, DW, DN, and now KM).

Thoughts and prayers go out to his son, family, and friends. :salute:
