The 3 game series against the Pittsburgh Pirates starts tomorrow (maybe)!

I say maybe, because there is snow expected tomorrow. Therefore, the Pirates are planning on postponing tomorrows game and planning a double header on Wednesday. We'll see what happens.

Projected start times:

Monday April 23rd: 5:10pm
Tuesday April 24th: 5:10pm
Wednesday April 25th: 10:35am

Projected starters:

Moyer (1-2) vs Correia (1-0)
Nicasio (1-0) vs McDonald (0-1)
Chacin (0-1) vs Morton (0-1)

GO ROCKIES!!!!!

Today's game has been postponed due to inclement weather in Pittsburgh. It will be made up as a doubleheader on Wednesday.

Moyer could probably use the extra day of rest anyway.

You pull out a pitcher with 84 pitches, who could have gone 1 more.

But the more puzzling part is in a one run game, you put in a pitcher who has been having struggles, especially with command?

Go ahead and crack jokes on Moyer. But a 2.28 ERA in 23.1 innings is easily the best on the roster and proves why he made it. Since you say you don't know how. It's not his fault the offense has been non existent every time he pitches or the pen sucked tonight.

Yeah, his ERA has been good.

But he's averaging less than 6 innings. That's not good.

And there is no way he keeps it up, our other pitchers will start clicking, and he'll start falling down the list.

Tonight, he was good, and in no way was this loss his fault though.

Tonight, he was good, and in no way was this loss his fault though.

Well he did have a rough first start. Which all of the staff has had. His second start he was into the 6th inning until the errors knocked him out of the game.

The last two starts have been great and last night he should've pitched longer which would've brought his average over 6 per outing.

The only pitcher on the roster averaging 6 per outing is Guthrie and he is barely there with a near 6 ERA. Although hopefully he starts building off his last start on Sunday.

I know my defense of Moyer isn't popular around here but I just can't help but look at the stats. If his stats were at near the end of the rotation or even by far worst I would be all for replacing him. But I just don't feel like any of the young guys have done anything to merit moving ahead of him in the rotation much less someone else completely replacing him in the rotation.

I know the odd's aren't in his favor of keeping this up and when he fails I will be all for replacing him. But so far through four starts I just find it hilarious that people still want to have him replaced by guys who just flat out haven't earned it.

I don't think we get swept but I could see us losing 3 of 4. It's the third best pitching staff in baseball and our offense only shows up every few games. I could easily see them shutting us down.

I have to think at least one of our pitchers can shut down that league worst offense though.

Doubt it. 2004 was when he was drafted, and still nothing.

I don't think we can just 'assume' he'll be fine.

Pacheco can hit. Nelson's arm hasn't been any better than Pacheco's.

I'm not defending Nelson's road slump, not making excuses he has been awful on the road. I'm just not ready to push the panic button. Same with Scutaro who hasn't hit for crap either.

Nelson/Pacheco are just a stop gap for Arrenado, they both may get a shot next year at 2nd (highly doubt we re-sign Scutaro) Nelson I see as a better everyday 2nd baseman than 3rd and I just don't think Pacheco could play 2nd everyday. He may be more of a future 1st baseman.

I disagree unless the game is pretty much put away in a blow out. If it's 1-0 then why the heck not? You are paid to win the game not give the guy an easy at bat just to preserve the no hitter. If you can still win the game as a professional athlete you have to go for it.

I know people get mad about it but a hit is a hit no matter how you get it.

In that case it might be acceptable, but in most no hitters a team is getting dominated.

One of those unspoken rules. If a team does it just to break it up, expect to get beaned.

Yeah I mean if it's 6-0 it's stupid. But a lot of instances it's a close game still.

Jiminez was 4-0 which is still probably slightly wrong.

Humber on Saturday was 4-0 so it's certainly not impossible.

But also I seem to remember one getting broken up a few years back on a bunt. But the game was like 1-0 so I didn't really see why people were so upset about it.

Nicasio had another great outing! He's really coming on again, and back in his comfort zone. He really deserved the win today, but Tracy yanked him an out too early. Wasn't happy with it then, and definitely not now that Nicasio didn't receive the win.

Starting Pitching:

Juan Nicasio: 6.2 IP, 9 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 5 SO, 1 HR; ND (1-0)

3 Batting Stars:

Tyler Colvin: (0-3) RBI (6)

Jason Giambi: (0-1) RBI (2)

Dexter Fowler: (1-1) 2B (4)

Bullpen Stars:

Matt Reynolds: 0.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 1 SO, 0 HR; W (2-0)

Esmil Rogers: 1.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 3 SO, 0 HR

Rafael Betancourt: 1.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 1 SO, 0 HR; S (6)

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Well there wasn't much offense, so offensive stars were hard to dish out, so I gave it to the RBI guys and Dexter's double.

Our bullpen was great, and struck out 5 straight guys, until the last 2 batters.

EY's speed won us this game, great job by him.

Hell yeah, Chacin!!

2nd and 3rd...no outs. And gets out of it.

He's definitely struggling though.

Barmes had 4 hits in 14 games coming into the series. He has 5 hits in 3 games of the series.

We made a big mistake in getting rid of Barmes.

Seriously? He was hitting .110 before this series. Scutaro is way better.

HA!

Good one.

Barmes did not hit .110 with us, so that point is moot.

Plus, his defense is GREAT. I'd take him back GLADLY.

My memory may be a little off but I thought near the end of his stretch here that he had become a defensive liability. Or maybe I'm just remembering his 12 errors last year in Houston. But his career average is .251. Not terrible at second but it's been declining each year. I'll pass.

You're right though I may have made a rash comparison to Scutaro. Barmes is trending down though.

He was never a defensive liability.

He's a GREAT defense man. Kind of like Stewart, but, he hits more than Stewart.

His average with the Rockies, was around .265 or so.

I'll take that, with his defense. I liked Ellis too. I also like Scutaro, but we SHOULD'VE kept Barmes is my point. We don't have anyone better YET, and didn't get an upgrade in Ellis or Scutaro.

Scutaro will probably bat around .260 with us by the end of the year. But, Barmes is a better defense men.

Meh.

What can ya do? Neither of them were his fault.

Then Chacin lost confidence and gave up two bombs.

Stinks losing the series, but the players get tomorrow off to get ready for the Mets.

You can't tell that 18 games in.

Or we'd be saying how the phillies are a below .500 team...which they aren't.

And the Nationals sure as hell aren't the best team.

Way too early to tell.

I agree. The Rox were what 74-70 or something like that in September before they got hot and made the playoffs? Then went on to the world series. .500 is acceptable in baseball as long as somewhere a long the line you get hot and go on a roll. Then you become a playoff contender.
