If I remember, which is iffy:) I'll try to join in during the game. I'm tired of talking to myself at my main baseball board where I'm the only Rockies fan, after making a game day thread.

SS Troy Tulowitzki, who was in the lineup, playing with a bruise on his left fibula and had negative x-rays. A Dexter Fowler line drive hit Tulowitzki in the left leg in the eighth inning Monday night when he was standing on the top step of the dugout, ready to go to the on-deck circle after Fowler's at-bat. Tulowitzki limped while beating out an infield single and was removed for a pinch runner.

Because of the numbness he felt in his leg as he walked to the on-deck circle, Tulowitzki thought his leg was broken. Tulowitzki went 2-for-4 with one run scored and one RBI. His run-scoring single in the fourth broke an 0-for-8 string with runners in scoring position.

RHP Carlos Torres was optioned to Triple-A Colorado Springs to clear a roster spot for RHP Jeremy Guthrie, who was activated to start at San Francisco. Torres, who began the season at Triple-A, was added to the Rockies roster May 4. In three appearances, Torres had a 2.25 ERA in four innings with two walks and three strikeouts. His most recent outing was Friday at Los Angeles where he worked two innings and allowed a homer to Andre Ethier.

Because he could be optioned, Torres was demoted and struggling RHP Esmil Rogers kept his roster spot. Rogers, who has been scored upon in four straight outings and has a 9.18 ERA in 14 games, would have had to clear waivers to be outrighted to the minors.

Despite pitching very poorly, Rogers' ability to throw a 97-98 mph fastball, 90 mph slider and 84 mph curveball makes the Rockies, for the time being, anyway, reluctant to see him leave the organization and harness his stuff elsewhere.

Before joining the Rockies, Torres went 2-1 with a 2.88 ERA in five starts at Colorado Springs, and he will resume starting there.

"We want him to pitch some more innings," Tracy said. "We're sending Carlos Torres back to Colorado Springs to make room for Jeremy Guthrie. We're not sending Carlos Torres to Colorado Springs because he's done anything that warrants him having to go back down and I made that very clear to the player."

General manager Dan O'Dowd said no changes in the coaching staff are being contemplated despite the Rockies disappointing start. O'Dowd said, "No doubt we have to find a way to get some wins and hang in there. I believe the talent is there. That's what scouts who come in and see us tell me. We need the pieces of the puzzle to fit."

The Rockies blew early five- and six-run leads and lost to the Braves on their last homestand. And on this roadtrip, they gave up three or fewer runs in five games and lost four of them.

"I think it's a consistent pattern of inconsistency," O'Dowd said. "When we have pitched, we haven't hit. And when we hit, we haven't pitched well. It's been hard. But I believe we will turn it around."

LHP Christian Friedrich has 17 strikeouts in 13 innings in his first two major league starts, the fourth highest total among active pitchers in their first two major league games. Stephen Strasbourg had 22 strikeouts in his first two starts in 2010 for the

Nationals. In 1999, Tim Hudson had 19 strikeouts in his first two starts for the A's. Johnny Cueto had 18 strikeouts in his first two starts for the Reds in 2008. Friedrich is only the fourth left-hander in franchise history with at least 10 strikeouts in a game. Jorge De La Rosa has reached that milestone five times and Brian Bohanon and

Jeff Francis did it once.

OF Tyler Colvin started in center field, giving him four consecutive starts for the first time this season. He hit leadoff for the second time, the other being April 8 at Houston. Colvin went 1-for-5 with a run scored before being lifted for Dexter Fowler, a better defender, in the ninth.

LHP Drew Pomeranz is scheduled to make his second start for Triple-A Colorado Springs on Saturday against New Orleans. In his first start since being optioned by the Rockies, Pomeranz pitched six scoreless innings Sunday at Memphis with no walks, five hits allowed and five strikeouts and threw 51 of 78 pitches for strikes while winning 3-0.

"We want him to get more upright in his delivery to create more downhill plane," general manager Dan O'Dowd said. "He was getting on the side of the ball and trying to live on deception and the action of his pitches and that's not him. And like all of our pitches, we need him to throw more strikes."

By The Numbers:

14Śwalks for RHP Jeremy Guthrie and nine strikeouts in 29 2/3 innings, including four walks and four strikeouts in 5 1/3 innings Tuesday when he came off the disabled list and made his first start since April 22.

Quote To Note:

"Tough game to lose. That's as good a starting pitching performance as we've had all year long. He was phenomenal."
Śmanager Jim Tracy on LHP Christian Friedrich, who in his second major league start allowed one run and six hits in seven innings with one walk and 10 strikeouts Monday when the Rockies lost 3-2.

Good outing for Moyer.

6 1/3 - 100 pitches - 1 ER

Pitch count still pretty high, but can't complain with 1 ER. (with 1 more runner his responsibility)

Rockies 6 Dbacks 1

Really good outing by Moyer. His pitch count was still pretty high but at least he got through 6 1/3 helping our bullpen out. Only gave up 1 earned run. Good job, Moyer.

Starting Pitching:

Jamie Moyer: 6.1 IP, 6 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 5 SO, 0 HR; W (2-3)

3 Batting Stars:

Dexter Fowler: (3-3) R, 3 H, 2B (5), 3B (2), 2 RBI (16)

Carlos Gonzalez: (1-4) H, RBI (30)

Jordan Pacheco: (2-4) 2 R, 2 H, RBI (2)

Bullpen Stars:

Josh Roenicke: 1.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 1 SO, 0 HR

Esmil Rogers: 1.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 1 SO, 0 HR

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Moyer also had 2 RBI's tonight and a BB. Tulo had 1 hit tonight and scored a run, and turned a great DP.

Fowler was 1 AB away from a potential cycle, he just needed the HR.

2 in a row, keep it up!

Rockies move to 'You still don't wanna know' on the season. Next game is tomorrow at Coors Field against the Dbacks at 1:10pm.

GO ROCKIES!!!

Today is a great case for new management. There is no room on the roster for EY if he is just a pinch runner when a spot is locked down for Giambi.

If the only way they can think of producing runs is using two guys per PH then they need to burn a pitcher to run.

CinnaMunMun
05-17-2012, 08:20 PM
Really as mad as I am about the bench situation, our bullpen completely blew it, multiple times.

Our setup guys and closer all couldn't go without giving up at least a run. That is pathetic.

Now we play Seattle. We better win 2/3, we SHOULD win 3/3. Home field, pitching matchups are very favorable to us, and they are a terrible team.

I was in attendance at this one. Great sorta sloppy game to watch. Pretty sure that was a 1-2 pitch that Betancourt served up to Upton.

Three beauties right behind me in their young 20's rode Cargo pretty good for 3 or 4 innings. Cargo, you are so hot, Cargo, we'll buy you a drink after the game, Cargo, take your shirt off. They waved a few times at him coming out of the dugout to field his LF position and he finally responded to them by flapping his glove open and shut a couple of times.

There is so much luck in baseball that nothing works out math wise in projection but good teams win 6 out of 10 for 60% and bad teams win 4 out of 10 for 40%, leaving you with a 20% difference between the two.

Even winning 2 out of 3 (66%) is way above the 20% difference.

We run a Pick'em at my baseball board and I'm towards the top with a 286-251(.533) record and most of the time I pick the team whose pitcher has a better ERA. Baseball is a very hard game to pick a winner.
