Kobe says this year's Olympic team could take the Dream Team. Who you got in that matchup? I, personally, will always take the team with Jordan on it.

This team is pretty much completely made of All Stars.

That team was pretty much completely made of HOF's...

I'll go with the dream team and its probably not even all that close.

Michael Jordan and Hakeem Olajuwon. Dwight Howard paid for lessons from Hakeem last summer. When he was in his prime Olajuwon was the best center I have ever seen. Throw in Bird, Pippen, and Magic....I'll take the 92 team in a heart beat.

Kobe is obviously joking. The 2012 team doesn't even beat the Redeem Team (2008), never mind the Dream Team ('92). Even the Dream Team's bench would clobber the 2012 team.

Maybe, if everyone was healthy and we had our best players like Rose, Howard, and Wade they could stand up to the '92 Team's bench.

Have to agree with you there Al. If I'm drafting from scratch, I'd take Kareem, but for those two or three years Hakeem was too damn good. How good, dude shot over .500, had about 12 go to post moves, stepped outside and hit three pointers, handled the ball like a small forward, and was the best defensive player in the NBA. No other center could do all of those things.

I'm not even looking at this year's Olympic team roster. There's no way they would beat the Dream Team in a series (I don't think they would win a game).

Hakeem Olajuwan wasn't on that team...he wasn't a US citizen at that time.. I think he played on the 96 team but not the 92 team.

Shaquille O'Neal

I'd like to have what he's smoking.

92 Dream Team would beat them easily. They would pound it inside all game, plus they have the GOAT in Michael Jordan..

MAYBE if they had Rose, Wade, Bosh, Howard but they'd still lose. Would be more of a game though.

"For him to compare those two teams is not one of the smarter things he ever could have done," Jordan said prior to playing in a celebrity golf tournament in Charlotte.

"I heard Kobe say we were not athletic," said a smiling Jordan as he sat in a golf cart puffing on his cigar while waiting to tee off. "But we were smart. He said we were too old, but I was 29 and in the prime of my career. Pip (Scottie Pippen) was 26 or 27, (Charles) Barkley was 29, Patrick (Ewing) was 29 and Chris Mullin was 29. Almost everybody was still in their 20s."

"Most of us were in the prime of our careers, at a point where athleticism doesn't really matter," said Jordan, the owner of the Charlotte Bobcats. "You have to know how to play the game."

"I imagine he's trying to say it to legitimize his own Dream Team," Jordan said. "But to me it's not even a question what team is better."

"For him to make that comparison, it's one of those things where it creates conversation," Jordan said. "I guess we'll never know. I'd like to think that we had 11 Hall of Famers on that team, and whenever they get 11 Hall of Famers, you call and ask me who had the better Dream Team. Remember now, they learned from us. We didn't learn from them."

Forgot Hakeem wasn't on that team. I get some of the players from 92 and 96 mixed up for some reason. Still though, Robinson and Ewing is brutal.

Upon further thought. I think it would be a great game. LeBron is better than anybody on that team, save maybe Jordan. Additionally, Durant is better than Bird (yes, I said it). :D

Well, he does have a bit of a point, cause Bird was basically a cripple at that point. Career wise though, I agree. Doesn't matter though, I still don't see how the current team would have a snowball's chance in hell.

How would anyone on the current team even begin to defend those guys? They'd put Pippen on LeBron.

Respect the opinion, but LeBron will never match Jordan's will to win or rise up in crunch time the way Jordan did night in and night out. And I think the real mismatch would be in the post. Barkley and Malone would salivate at the thought of Melo and his defensive 'prowess' checking them on the block. They would murder him or really any forward they would send their way.

That's a pretty fair assessment. This team is pretty short on low post players without Dwight Howard or Blake Griffin. I don't think Barkley or Malone could guard Griffin. Neither one of those guys were known to be defensive stoppers. They were good rebounders, but not great defensive players.

I also agree with what you said about Jordan's will to win, but there's still time left for LeBron to change the perception of his killer instinct. These last playoffs were a good start.

Durant is as good of a shooter and is better at creating his own shot than Bird was because he's longer and more athletic.

If I was starting a franchise I would take Durant over Bird any day of the week.

Bird is a better defender than Durant. When you already have a team filled with good to great shooters, you need a player who can do both effectively.

Bird was good at getting into passing lanes, but he was not very quick. He couldn't guard guys on the wing very well, due to his lack of athleticism. He was a good rebounder, but I never thought of him as a good defender. He was good at jumping passing lanes, but his one on one defense wasn't what made him great. He also played in an era where hand checking was allowed. Bird was constantly hand checking, which helped him over come his slow feet.

After watching the 2012 team's last few games, it becomes even more apparent. They like to dribble and move the ball for 20 seconds and then shoot a contested jumpshot. Do you guys honestly believe they could keep up with the likes of Magic, Jordan, and Bird with a tempo like that? No one on that team wants to attack the basket, they'd get dominated by the Dream Team.

The Redeem team would stand a far better chance. Everyone (LeBron, Melo, Wade, Dwight, etc.) was still young and in their primes and they weren't afraid to attack the basket.

We already know what the 92 Dream Team accomplished and how all of their careers ended up. Let's see what the 2012 team does before we end up comparing them. Right now, we're comparing potential greatness to actual greatness. Let the current players run their mouths all they want, if it helps them gain confidence, good.

Well, some of those are off the wall absurb, but remember, the Dream Team is what inspired the rest of the world to become better at basketball. At the time, they were pretty much garbage teams, whereas now there are teams like Spain, who have the Gasol brothers and so forth.

That said, there's no question the '92 team would win. Then again, tI might go with the 2012 team if they were all healthy. I mean, give them Blake Griffin, Dwight Howard, Chris Bosh, Dwayne Wade and suddenly they're much more evenly matched.

While true that it would be a better matchup it's a mute point in this argument. Kobe and Lebron didn't say that a current NBA lineup could be point together that could compete with the 92 team and win. They said the current actual USA roster playing in these olympics could beat them. So that throws out what players are unhealthy and unable to play.

And this team could not compete with the 92 Dream Team.
