I'll try to remember to update this thread every Monday once ESPN releases their NBA Power Rankings.

12-24-2012:

Nuggets sit at #7. Record (15-13)

"Andre Iguodala's December woes are offset, at least slightly, by JaVale McGee's hints of progress this month: 12.0 ppg, .701 shooting and 2.7 bpg in just 19.4 mpg. Christmas, though, doesn't really arrive for the Nuggets until January, with 15 of their first 18 games in 2013 at home. At last."

Really? 7th? I'm surprised.

I haven't had much time to pay attention to standings this year. And I know we had an extremely ridiculously tough schedule to start but I didn't figure us as being better than all but 6 teams though.

Hopefully now that the schedule eases up though and we are allowed to actually play home games we can get on a roll and back this up.

What it should say is "Andre Iguodala's tough shooting start to December has been far outwieghed by his strong all around play in his last 5 December games".

Last 5 games:

14.5 PPG
6.8 RPG
6.6 APG

Ever since Andre Miller apparently sat down with Iggy and discussed what he needs to be doing more of and less of he has been playing great and doing what most envisioned him doing for this team. He isn't trying to be the scorer and jacking up shots. He is shooting 59% since the talk and has been a triple double threat on multiple occasions. Hopefully he keeps up his strong play which has been instrumental to our winning of 4 of our last 5.

We've been dominant at home so far this year. I'm not surprised we've struggled so far this season, we've had a lot of road games early and everyone is trying to get a feel for each other. This is a completely different team from last year, the chemistry isn't there yet but I don't think we're far off.

15 of 18 at home to start January. I like the sound of that. 13-5 at worse hopefully during that stretch.

meh. still a little high imo. I'd rather us be around #9 just so we can surprise people rather than "win because we should". I like a cinderella story. :D

but being good isn't bad!

The 3rd is theirs for the taking. Only 3 games back from the Clippers who are doing terrible without Paul. He might be back soon but their schedule the rest of the month is a lot harder than ours.

espn has us 6th and nba has us 7th.

whats funny is that there are only 2 east teams in the top 8...

That's because the east is awful. There is only 1 good team, Miami. West has 3 Title contenders (SA, OKC, LAC) and 2 teams who could do some damage (DEN, MEM). MIA will roll to the finals and it will be up to the WC to stop em.

I would say the Pacers are pretty solid but yeah def not on Miami's level

Pacers are a very good team and will give teams fits. Paul George is a budding star, don't sleep on them.

I actually don't hate your team. When Canes hoops have been bad in the past, I actually root for Duke because of teh respect I have for Coach K.

the spurs/thunder can be swapped... as well as knicks/grizz/rockets.. but i think thats a solid list

Hollingers rankings is a joke

I have no problem with it. The Nuggets have the 6th best record in the NBA so ESPN and NBA rankings seem more of a joke than Hollingers.

Memphis is equally as hot and clippers aren't far behind. Plus we have the lowest point differential of the top 6 teams.

So it's a little suprise to me we are 4th. Though its probably because we are the hottest team in the new year not named the Heat.

Well if power rankings are just based off record, then what's the point? You could just look at the standings.

Hollinger always has us lower than others. Idk why...but it's a common theme with him.

i would rather us continue to be underdogs and ranked behind the likes of the Thunder, Spurs, and Clippers. I think that if Ty Lawson continues his play that this is a WCF team this year. Call me crazy but I can see it happening.

From Top to Bottom our TEAM is better than any team in the West. The question is does our 1 star shine bright enough to overcome the 2-3 stars on the other contending teams? I think Ty can... Mix in a couple of big games from Chandler, Gallo, Iggy, etc and we'll be real tough to beat in a series - especially at home.

Hollingers ranking is all computer based kinds like the bcs so in that case its a joke.

Yes because polls based purely off Marc Steins opinion are to be taken so much more seriously.

Wasn't saying purely off records. I made the point that the two immediate teams above us, Memphis is equally as hot winning 9 of 10 and Clippers are almost as hot. So why should we rank higher?

And thunder and Spurs aren't as hot but is someone going to argue we should be ahead of them?

I've seen numerous seasons where Hollinger ranks the nuggets consistently 4-5 spots higher than anyone else. It's based on stats.

If you want opinions only (which I think is a more ridiculous way to rank teams) then just read Steins and ignore Hollinger.

And if all we want to do is see the Nuggets as high as we can without logic then just rank them #1 yourself. Then you're happy.

It doesn't really matter anyway till playoffs.

You say that as if college rankings mean anything. They don't mean anything either since 68 teams make the tournament.

But that's why I'm starting to really love college basketball more than football. Their teams get to play it out on the court instead of having a poll determine the top 2 and tell 3-5 or so that they don't even have a chance to prove the rankings wrong.

They've had one of the easiest schedules the last month and they've barely won a bunch of those games.
