Gonna use this thread to do my random games back grumblings

But first heres an interesting standings chart!
http://i.imgur.com/fNRhisR.png

The grizz are ahead of the clipps even though they are .5 games back of the clippers.... i love that!

ok so we're 2 games back of the 3 seed and 1.5 games back of the 4 seed, and we've played 3 more games than memphis... and guess who we're playing this week? memphis. At home. And they'll be on the third night of a 4 game road trip... against the blazer, clipps, nuggs, jazz...

4 of the better home teams this season...

which means... realistically grizzlies will probably end up losing 3 of those 4 games. 2 if they're lucky.

so lets say they lose to the clipps, nuggs, and jazz and beat portland.

they will be 42-22 (our current record)

---we play the suns in phx, and then knicks and grizz at home... i'm assuming we win all 3 because we never lose at home and its the suns without one of their better players.

we would be 45-22, 1.5 games up on grizz.

now the clipps are 44-20, and they play pistons and grizz at home :(

they will be 46-20, 1.5 games up on nuggs

the standings would be:

3. clippers 46-20, 0 GB
4. Nuggets 45-22, 1.5 GB
5. Memphis 42-22, 3 GB

3 seed aint lookin all too good :(

but home court is within our grasp!

(57-25) or (56-26) depending on how we do on that second night of the b2b...

So basically kiss the 3 seed goodbye unless the clippers epicly choke... but expect a good shot at the 4 seed.

Lol I love my Nuggets but I'll be stunned if they win 15 of the last 18. I highly doubt they get to 57 wins. I'm not even sure they'll get to 55.

Also not very realistic that you say Jazz are on of the better home teams so they'll beat Memphis at home. But then you chalk it up to a win for us.

I love the enthusiasm but its a little homeristic.

I'll be more than happy to CP you if I'm wrong though.

well, they are playing the jazz on the 2nd night of a b2b.... and we play them after 4 full days of rest.

but yeah it does seem like a crapton of wins. I'm just going by what this team has been doing lately. we've gone 25-7 this calendar year.

thats .781

and we've won 18 of our past 22... which is .818

winning 15/18 would be .833, but i also said we might go 14/18 in the projection so that would be .777

It's not that far-fetched, but we'll see how we do.

Again, just a projection ;)

DenverBlood
03-10-2013, 05:29 AM
I don't have a problem at all with you projecting us to catch either of them. I think it's a good chance even though neither seems to want to cut us any slack lately.

I just thought the win total was a bit wishful. For all three. I bet the 3 seed is won at 55 games.

West just gets better and better every year. Nuggets have been the 2 seed at 54 wins before. Now 55 may be only good enough for 4-5 seeds.

Meanwhile Heat have already clinched a playoff spot out East.

we're now 1 game back of memphis, who are starting a back2back tomorrow, and a 4 game road trip

1 game plus percentage points. If we pull even they technically still hold the four seed with a better win percentage.

Same reason they were a half game behind clippers but held the three seed on Sunday.

yup but as long as we take care of home court, we'll have the tiebreaker (head to head). we've won 2 of the 3 meetings.

memphis with a shocking upset. better than i thought.

1 game back of clips, 1.5 back of memphis with memphis comin to town.

Just some notes:

Nuggets are:
1-1 vs Spurs
3-1 vs Thunder
3-1 vs Grizz
2-1 vs Clipps
3-1 vs GS
3-0 vs Rockets
3-1 vs Lakers

So if we still have home court due to better record what's the point of guaranteeing a top 4 seed to division winners?

i think it guarantees they play a bottom 4 team... cause if they were to end up the 6 seed lets say, they'd be playin the 3 seed.

not sure, just a guess.

Doesn't really make sense.

If Nuggets get home court advantage for better record then what difference does it make callin the Clips the 4 seed or 5 seed?

You call them the 4 so they don't have to play a top 4 seed. They play the nuggets as a lower 4 seed.

Versus calling them a 5 and us a 4 and saying they play a top 4 seed.

If Nuggets get home court either way for better record then what difference does it make?

Broncoholic3233

It's a weird rule, but I think he's right.

Let's say that division just sucks really bad. The Clippers get the 7th seed, but win the division, so they'd be poised to play the 2nd seed. However, they do want to reward winning your division, so they want to at least give them the 4. So now they will play the 5. The 5 seed has a better record, so they get home court, but the Clippers would at least avoid playing the 2nd best team.

It's dumb, but oh well. Nuggets do have home court right now though as the 5 seed if we were to play the Clippers. That's what I know for sure.

At least we would still get home court, who cares what our seed number is if that happens.

We might actually win this division. I hope Westbrook keeps hogging the ball.

This is my point?

The seed number is all trivial if they still don't have home court advantage.

I could see 7 versus 4 makes a big difference.

But 4 vs 5 you still play the same team and still don't have home court over a better team.

So it's dumb.

It's not dumb, but right now its moot... meaning it currently makes no difference on matchups or home courts...

but the rule is in place to avoid an 8 seed division winner playing the 1 seed.

San Antonio doesn't scare me. I know they should, but they just don't. I said the same thing last year.

I really don't know how they are as good as they are..but somehow they are.

We get to see them two more times...so they might start scaring me (even though they should already).

team that scares me in the west is memphis cause they were able to control the pace in basically all 4 games.

though we still won the series.

Idk San Antonia has always scared me. Maybe its cause of popovich. They also are alot better on the offensive end then we are use to seeing and they still have the big 3 intact (even though there getting up there in age)

I agree that we match up with Golden State well, but the matchup with Houston isn't bad either. I feel we match up well with either of them, I just want to avoid the Grizz/Clipps by keeping the 3 spot.

As for the potential 2nd round matchup, I would much rather play the Spurs over the Thunder. So I hope the Thunder can hold onto the 1 seed.

Clearly we are getting to the 55 I was skeptical about.

However I'm still not sure about 57. Because our last road game is a back to back against the Bucks. And didn't they handle us once already this year? Could be wrong about that. If we win that then yes 57. But as of right now I would say 56.

So Clips need to beat Memphis tonight.

So Clips need to beat Memphis tonight.

Clips winning means they both are .5 games back.

Clips losing means memphis is .5 ahead, but clips are 1.5 back.

Basically, would you rather have home court locked up or would you rather fight for the 3 seed.

If you just want home court, go memphis.

If you want that 3 seed and dont mind risking home court, go clips.

Uh what??

How about Go Clips and we get three seed and home court.

I think maybe you said it backwards.

If Memphis wins we all but clinch home court over Clips even if we are five seed. But we could still get three over Memphis if we win out. Clips would just basically be done.

If Clips win we are still ahead of them and are also ahead of Memphis. And we could afford to lose another game and still beat out Memphis for a top four seed.

DenverBlood
04-13-2013, 08:28 PM
Well Memphis lost.

So at this point I would be stunned if we don't beat them out for home court.

Now we just have to stay ahead of the Clips and get the three seed.

I think that means that our magic number is now 2?

win 2 of 3 and we get the 3 seed. Win 1 of 3 coupled with memphis losing one and clips losing one, and we get 3 seed as well.

edit: and I had it right before. Not sure what the confusion was about? I just didn't know who to root for... ended up picking clips though so its good.

I guess my confusion was in the last paragraph. Didn't really see wanting the three seed as risking home court.

I mean yes both are only .5 game back now when clips could've been toast. But I really don't see us losing home court over Memphis now.

I felt like Memphis had a better shot to beat us out for it than Clips and that they won't both beat us out if Clips won.

So now that Memphis did in fact lose I'm calling home court a wrap. Because I don't see us losing either remaining home game.

Now we just have to make sure we take care of business and get the 3 seed and don't let the Clippers past us.

The Simple Formula
If the Nuggets win their final two games, they will secure the No. 3 seed regardless of what the Clippers and Grizzlies do. Under this scenario, Denver would open the playoffs at home against either Houston or Golden State. The Rockets are currently the No. 6 seed.

Split and Get Help
If the Nuggets split their final two games, they can still finish third if the Clippers lose once. L.A. finishes at home against Portland and at Sacramento in what could be the final home game for the Kings. The Grizzlies can’t catch Denver under this scenario. Just to enter it into the record, the No. 3 seed also goes to Denver if the Nuggets, Clippers and Grizzlies all split their final two games.

Against All Odds
The Nuggets could still finish third even with two losses to end the season, but they would need the Clippers to lose both of their remaining games and the Grizzlies to lose at least once. Memphis plays at Dallas and home against Utah.

Four on the Floor
If the Nuggets and Grizzlies both split their final two games and the Clippers win out, Denver would finish fourth and have home-court advantage in a series against Memphis.

Worst-case Scenario
If the Nuggets lose their final two games and the Clippers and Grizzlies win out, Denver would finish fifth and open the playoffs at No. 4 Memphis.

Consolation Prize
The Nuggets could still open the playoffs at home as the No. 5 seed against the fourth-seeded Clippers if Denver and L.A. both lose their final two games and Memphis wins out.

Side Note
As the No. 4 seed, the Nuggets would only play the fifth-seeded Grizzlies. As division winners, the Clippers can’t drop to No. 5. Los Angeles needs to win out and have the Denver lose once for this scenario to take place.
