After only three seasons, the Colt McCoy era is officially over in Cleveland.

The Browns have traded the fourth-year quarterback and a sixth-round draft pick to the 49ers for a fifth-round and seventh-round draft pick, according to CBS Sports NFL Insider Jason La Canfora.

The Browns have been looking to dump McCoy since signing free agent quarterback Jason Campbell last week. Campbell and Brandon Weeden are expected to compete for the starting job in Cleveland, which left McCoy as the odd man out.

McCoy, Cleveland's third round draft pick in 2010, started 21 games for the Browns over the past three seasons and went 6-15 in those starts. Cleveland didn't have much faith in McCoy and there was no more evidence of that than last April when the Browns selected Brandon Weeden with the 22nd overall pick in the draft.

The trade should actually be good news for McCoy. Instead of toiling away in Cleveland with an uncertain future, McCoy will now join a 49ers team where he has a legitimate shot of being the team's No. 2 quarterback in 2013.

San Francisco has been looking for a backup quarterback since trading Alex Smith to Kansas City. Smith's departure left Scott Tolzien as the only the only other quarterback on the roster besides starter Colin Kaepernick.

On the Browns end, the chance to get anything in exchange for McCoy was a good thing for Cleveland. Had the Browns been unable to trade McCoy, they may have ended up releasing the veteran and getting no compensation.

McCoy will join former Browns kicker Phil Dawson in San Francisco. Dawson signed with the 49ers in mid-March. The two players were teammates for three seasons in Cleveland.

I think it's a bad move by the Browns, and a good one by the 49ers. (You're welcome Charlie). He is a good backup, and I think he's better than Weeden. (You're welcome again Charlie)

McCoy's probably happy since he goes to a huge contender.

I'm pretty much at the point where I couldn't care less. The team is run by a fool and is coached by fools and there is no hope on the horizon. In fact, the only thing on the horizon is disaster. So, I couldn't care less.

They will probably sign JaMarcus Russell to compete with Weeden and Campbell. Nothing shocks me anymore with the people running that team.

Now, somebody will ask the inevitable, why are you so negative all the time? I've already answered that over and over and over again. Then, somebody else will ask, "Why even follow football?" Because it's a habit now and I am used to it. Oh, and somebody may even say - "You are the worst fan I've ever met."

*Meh* is what I say to them.

I understand why you're jaded Charlie. Personally, I don't think Campbell and Weeden are bad options.

I honestly don't know if the new coaching staff is going to be any good or not. I think they gave up on the guy who was there before Holmgren too soon. I thought he had them headed in the right direction.

I also like the young talent on the team, but the coaching staff and GM are huge question marks.
