Now I know why Beckham acted the way he did.

Trying to make up excuses for Beckham's thuggish and reckless actions in that game?!

He should have been ejected.

Beckham should have in the game. But if the Panthers were making gestures at him with the bat. Then that is thuggish

OBJ was so wrong with that helmet-to-helmet hit; yes, he should have been ejected. But the flip side to that coin is the lack of control of the game by the officiating crew. It's true that "it's always the second guy that gets flagged." If the flag fell on the instigator, I think the whole story would have had a different ending. Think of it this way:

The instigator is attacking.
The second guy is defending himself/retaliating.

If you flag the instigator, there is no need to defend yourself and nothing to retaliate for. How many flags have been thrown for "taunting?" Wouldn't gesturing at a player with a baseball bat meet the "taunting" definition?

It could have been stopped before it got started if the officiating crew were doing their jobs. But, we don't have officiating crews. We have rodeo clowns in zebra jackets.
