Hi, Broncos fans! :) Steelers travel downstream the Ohio River for the second time during the season to play their divisional rivals and AFC North Champions Bengals in Round #3 of their rivalry in the 2015 season, this time in teir AFC Wild Card Playoff Game. Whoever wins will play the New England Patriots for the AFC Divisional Playoff Game next weekend. NO injuries, and GO AFC North! ;)

Hopefully this game is more competitive than the first one! I'm rolling with the Bengals to get their first playoff win since 1990. What better team to get that win against, the Steelers! Payback time for taking Carson Palmer out in the 2005/2006 wildcard game!

Or.... am I way off? Lol

I saw the defender targeting the chest area, but the "defenseless" receiver clearly lowers his head. Complete corruption of the game.

Exactly!!!

It kills me that they still flag the defender even when the receiver lowers his head into the defender.

They need to fix that in the off-season and make it reviewable and a no-call when they see the receiver lowered his head while the defender was clearly going to hit the receiver below the neck/head area had the receiver not lowered his head.

I'm betting they wouldn't. He's already had half a dozen one&dones and still has a job. The Bengals were so bad for so long (about 15 years in the League basement), that their standards are low, and Lewis is the only one who's brought any kind of success there.

Cinci has lacked a qb for a while. Marvin Lewis took a team that was akin to the Cleveland Browns and created a consistently winning team and gave the whole organization some stability. Compared to where they came from and what he inherited, he has done a phenominal job imo. He also played a big part in changing the organization including the scouting department and training. He has done and accomplished alot in Cinci. He is playing this game with his backup rookie qb against a team that is always in the mix this time of year for SB. I don't see a particular reason to see him fired and if you are going to I'd like to know who you want to replace him with. I personally think if he had a decent qb who could perform in the playoffs, this team may have a SB already.

-Rod-

They should get a new coach. His teams range from not very good to lower end playoff calibur at best.

Most teams that fired their long-term head coaches in recent history have failed to improve.

There are many examples, including the Broncos. Mike Shanahan was fired and replaced by McDaniels. Everyone here remembers the disaster. Eventually, the results got better because Elway improved the roster and signed a HoF QB, but did the coaching improve? Even our current coach, Kubiak, is Mike Shanahan's apprentice. The Titans only got worse without Jeff Fisher, the Bucs fell apart without Jon Gruden, the Eagles made a huge mistake by firing Andy Reid, etc.

It can always get worse. The Bengals have a lot of good things going for them, they just need a playoff-caliber QB to get to the next level. The most important thing in the end is to have big-time players that can handle pressure to make big plays and win in the playoffs. And it starts with a difference-maker at QB.

Burfict got them back in the game, and then took them out of the game. He's always been a great player, but wasn't even drafted because of his bonehead ways! I personally thought the hit on Gio was helmet to helmet, but doesn't mean Cincinnati would've won the game. That was one of the craziest playoff games I've ever watched.

They will suspend Burfict for political reasons, to justify the chaotic ending of that game. Shazier hitting with the crown of the helmet? No problem. Joey Porter, who is not a WRs coach and is not a doctor, getting on the field to talk trash? No problem. Steelers coach shoving Bengals player? No problem. The focus will be to punish Burfict to make the refs look better in that mess.

Best money he's ever paid. Should have been flagged. An assistant coach getting on the field to talk trash while his own WR is down? How is that not unsportsmanlike conduct?

Well pardon me if I don't recall the whole scenario well but that would count as an injury timeout correct? Meaning during a timeout coaches are allowed on the field.

I'll grant you he shouldn't have been trash talking but rather helping his own team. But even if flagged all that means is fouls offset but burfict still gets flagged for his hit.

Steelers would've still been in fg range and probably tried one or two more plays to get closer and spike to stop the clock.

In my opinion flag sure but that's it. And I'm not sure it had much impact on the outcome.

You can't seriously compare that to what the bengals did.

Also earlier in the game where munchak spun pacman. I didn't agree with Simms at all that pacmans hit wasn't a late hit out of bounds. It was a good 2-3 feet out when he threw the wr into the wall. I've seen so much less get flagged.

And on that one munchak got flagged and the bengals didn't.

Tom Jackson just made a great point today. He said here you have AJ McCarron playing in his 1st playoff game and got his team in a position to win. Then he has his veterans, who are supposed to be leaders, lose their composure and act like morons and lose the game for him.

That made me feel bad for AJ and the other teammates who had to endure this from those jerks.

-Rod-

No, assistant coaches are not allowed on the field during an injury timeout. Trainers, doctors and the HC are allowed. That's probably why he was fined. But a fine means nothing. Should have been a penalty. My issue with that situation is the officials threw a flag for Pacman Jones but did not throw a flag for Porter's unsportsmanlike conduct. Both were personal fouls and should offset. Then the officials would enforce only Burfict's hit.

EDIT:

http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000620301/article/burfict-faces-suspension-porter-could-be-fined

"Assistants are not allowed on the field during injury timeouts. Medical staff, trainers, attendants and the head coach can come out to check on the welfare of the player."

But then:

"With an injury that appears to be more serious you will see players and other staff out on the field at times to check on player. The referees gave Porter the benefit of the doubt because there was real concern for Brown."

Porter was not checking Brown, he got on the field only to talk trash and start a fight. He was laughing, acting like a fool. No concern for his player, who flopped by the way.

The officials did not apply the rulebook, which should work for both teams.

Yes, but others also do it and get away with it. Like Cody Wallace hitting Bruton and Shazier hitting Bernard with the crown of his helmet. If they want consistency, all these players should be suspended equally. But that does not happen. It depends on the noise in the media and the PR impact. Burfict is a repeat offender and his play decided the game. All eyes are on him, so he's going down. Odell was suspended because everyone watched and was talking about that game. Other players are also head-hunting on the field but get no suspensions if there isn't enough public outcry. That hit by Cody Wallace on Bruton was worse than any hit I've seen by Burfict. The guy charged with the crown of his helmet and hit a motionless player in a pile. There was no suspension because few people cared about it.

Hadez

They just had a big piece on NFL network showing how the Shazier hit was much worse than the hit Cinc 36 put on Pitt 11 that was flagged.

11 took three full steps and should have been considered a runner not a defenseless receiver. Plus Cinc 36 stopped and did not lay him out.

Shazier hit Cinc 25 before he took 3 steps....and hit him with the crown of his helmet. No flag!

Same ref crew...same game ... different judgments!

It is nice people finally talking about this stuff on network TV

Dunno why Steeler players always seem to get favorable decisions

Also frankly look at Steelers coaching...Tomlin...Porter...it is no wonder the have a bunch of thugs on their team.

Like Tomlin btw...but honestly his teams should get flagged every season like how ours got flagged this year.

I am not going to debate whether refs get it right all the time, because they don't. I am not defending Shazier. I am simply stating what I believe is fact.....Burfict should be suspended, and not for political reasons. Everyone was watching him for a reason. He is trouble. And his hit on Brown was incredibly dangerous, given Brown's position. And now we are hearing about his knee on Roethlisberger. I didn't know about that when I made my first judgement. If there's anything to it, he should be suspended for longer.

As I said, I am glad he helped his team implode. Football is a violent sport at the best of times. But Burfict goes further. And given everyone was watching him even closer, makes it all the more stupid.

I agree, and Marvin Lewis should be held accountable for drafting players with character issues if these are the outcomes, he's been doing it for years and this time it cost him a playoff game. However I would like to state that the Steelers are dirty, just dirty, and they need to be held accountable as well. You are right! Players out of control. Coaches not being accountable. Refs not managing the situation. And most everyone saw it coming. You could just tell by the way the tv folks were talking that emotions were getting very high, there's a history, and that there were obvious issues that needed to be dealt with.....ie. Burfict. Yeah, cause what matters more is that he comes first. His need to express his rage, his need to express his violence, his need to express his power matters more than anything.

Never mind the expense to his team, never mind the expense to the fans. Never mind the expense to the coaches. All he cares about is his own selfish needs. Disgraceful and sickening.
