I am starting this thread because I think that our Moderators would be able to do their job better if they were equipped with the power to ban user accounts, right then and there.

It would give them the tools necessary to rid the board of individuals who attack the board and threads with inappropriate images. (porn)

I invite fellow users of the same sentiment to simply reply with a post in favor of the idea, if they support it.

PS: I would also like to say to the Mods (particularly Jovi and AO) sorry for being so harsh about the whole incident. You guys do a great job.

It just really angered me to think about the fact that peoples kids are on this team MB and jerks like the c24bailey moron are exposing them to porn. The fact is, parents can tailor their childs Internet experience so that certain types of sites are not allowed, but if morons like the guy we are talking about are not banned immediately, it nullifies the effectiveness of these safeguards.

I have a daughter who uses the internet. She is only 4. One day she will frequent sites like this. I don't want to her to see that kind of crap.

Harbulas, please take my request into serious consideration. Empower these Moderators with the tools that they need.

Thanks, RBD.

I have to agree with this compleatly!
I would also add posters who like to swear in every post they put up.
Just a thought.

RBD, are you NUTS?
That would circumvent the due process......

you know sadly im going to say this would not be good because the mods probably hold grudges and would ban a user for the littlest thing without any reason on why the user did it..

since Steve isnt around as much as say Jovi or AO he doesnt hold grudges (except for me and 420) so i think he does a fair job on banning and that needs to be respected

but yes that cbailey24 moron needs to go...

Due to certain life circumstances, I have been in absentia lately. Steve knows why, and after February, I should be avaliable most evenings/nights on a regular basis. I do aplogize to anyone who thought I quit or didn't care. There is a reason why Jovi was asked to be a mod.

For the record, my wife will be shipped to Iraq in February. This was unexpected as her position was technically classified as 'non-deployable' because of lack of combat medicine needed in her current position with the Navy (she is a doctor, and damn good one at that). She is currently getting training in Yuma, AZ and Miramar. Needless to say, we are doing a lot of prep for her (uniforms, etc) and me (power of attorney, etc.) and some planning as to how to be a single dad in a world that sees it as an anamoly.

Anyway, I just wanted to say that I have asked Steve about this ability tpo ban users many times. And he has always politely told me no. C'est la vie.

However, I can only speak for myself, but I would find it to be intellectually dishonest if I banned someone who I perosnally disagreed with. That's not a goood reason. And I certainly don't hold grudges. People like Booher and West who have gotten into trouble before have never gotten beef from me at all, nor have I ever mentioned those things as a way to make them look bad. It is unprofessional of me to do so.

I also have complete faith that all of the other mods are the same, based on my viweing of their posting habits.

Except for that Elway dude, he's a smack talking bastard! ;)

Happy New Year.

They may not be able to ban but their opinion on who should be is not taken lightly, Im sure -

As far as the swearing goes, some of us get riled up and tend to post first, think later, some of us use it regularly in our daily life and therefore have a tendency to do the same here, w/o thinking who might be able to see it :heh: - BUT this is a football mesage board and IMO its not much different than going to a game - you gotta expect some kind of profanity - if you dont want you kids to "hear" such things than you shouldnt let them go to places where they will -

I cannot speak for all the Mods, but I am fully aware that almost everyone (including me - see "September 11th" thread) has violated the COC at one point or another. Usually, a simple edit is all it takes to rectify the situation.

I truly don't think that banning is an ability that the mods need. You really have to be a constant violator in order to get yourself banned on these boards. Although Steve ultimately has the final say, the mods generally discuss the severity of the violation, and the frequency the person in question has been warned.

I feel this is the best way becuase if one mod has a predisposition toward another member, he/she is not able to ban without discussing it with the rest of us.

I am suggesting this empowerment in the case of pornography, nothing more.

Good point, since last weekend brought up a prime example of what can happen. I'm curious if there is away to put people like that on *hold? until something can be done? So you can stop it for the time being but the banning is still left up to someone else.

I don't think it is asking too much, in the case of porn. In all other instances, you guys could still consult Steve first, IMHO.

There is a way to make sure all of their posts are cleared through the mods first, if someone is problematic...

The only thing is that I think that one of the admins has to set it, but basically they can set a "moderate this user" setting, where it will put up any posts made by the user into a queue...Which the moderators then will see & can allow or delete posts.

Also, a setting in the admin cp will make it so the mods can do a temp ban (1-7 days) but not a permanent ban...If I recall correctly.

BTW - admin, there is a new security update to the board v 3.0.4 which is suggested that it be installed immediatly. Might want to look into it. :)

Thanks, Damsel. We are going to work on a solution for giving the mods more power to restrict user activity after the reputation system is up and running.

Congrats on the MVT award, BTW...
