Thanks for the info man... Nice to see we are starting to heat up with some resignings and such. :coffee:

I hope that we retain both of them. Walls is the key to our secondary. (After Champ) Herndon is our insurance policy. We need to keep as much of our defense as possible with all but guaranteed changes in the front four looming.

Herndon is gone. There is no doubt about that now.

Palepoi, Davis, and Brandon are all safe. Pope may get a look.

Putzier is the problem. He is everything to us at the TE position, and teams are well aware of his talent around the league. Someone will try and sign him, I guarantee it, we are going to have to match that offer. Hopefully, he doesn't get inked to a big front loaded deal as matching that could really cripple us.

I noticed the same problem Mat'hir when looking at the article. Putzier needs to stay here. Hopefully we will have the cap space cleared if and when someone offers him a deal other than us.

herndon is as good as gone in my opinion, would love to keep him too but considering we've clearly said walls is our guy, and herndon wants to have a shot at being starter, while the rest of the NFL thinks hes a top calibre nickel back, they could give him a fairly large contract, one we wouldnt match for a backup guy

If we keep Walls and lose Herndon and retain Middlebrooks, (isn't he a FA, too?) our depth chart at CB1, 2 and 3, will ALL be over 6' 0". :D

Middlebrooks is not a RFA, that will be next offseason I believe. It's obvious he is being counted on as the nickelback now, and he played well when he was healthy last season.

Herndon really only made sense to keep if we would move him to FS. Which I thought would have been a good move.

We also need the Lasuer kid from Michigan to show up somewhere this year. We wasted a pick on him last year and he needs a shot. He could be a dime back or a safety. I am not sure he is fast enough be to a main cover corner but hopefully we see something develop there. I am real concerned about Puizier. That could be very costly. Sixth for his pass receiving skills is not a heavy price to pay.

What do mean by wasting a pick on him? He was injuried all of last season so it hard to gauge if that pick was wasted.

LeSeur has good speed, he was the Wolverines' return specialist, and probably could break into a dime-back. I also like the idea of putting him on FS™

Well at least a games worth!

Or as many times as he was beat perhaps your correct and a years exprience in that one game.

Someone should have him on a suicide watch!

He had that nice open field tackle on a crucial 3rd down in week 1 if you remember it.

I believe that this was the best move Shanahan/Sundquist could make. I respect the fact that so many people on this board like Herndon, but he has reached his maximum level of growth as a CB and he is no more than a Nickel Back. Walls is beefing up, he will be much better in coverage, and he is only 25. Walls' level of potential is so high it's scary. Hopefully now management can work on locking him up with a long-term contract so that we don't lose him next year as an UFA.

Also management must lock up Jeb Putzier and Ben Hamilton to a long-term contracts as well. I know that it's hard to keep all your young players in the salary cap era, but you have to have a nucleus and right nowI believe that we only have a few young players locked up into long-term deals.

Well i am glad they got that out the way. walls is safe. i think herndon is gonna gone anyway, and thast a problem. Middlebrooks and Alexander werent as good as i had hoped. Alexander has the better upside but is undersized. MIddlebrooks is the probable new nickle back, but he has no quickness at all on cut routes or slants. I think thats gonna be a small problem at the CB position. anyway i thought the putzier tender was low considering he was a 6th round pick thats dangerous. we lose him we have to rely on carswell again who is still bigger than 4 of our 5 o linemen lol.

i am glad we are keeping brandon for the moment, i think he has the skills needed to play FS well, he has the nasty gangsta attitude that builds team cohesiveness and individuality, but he isnt dirty. i like that. if he ever learns technique and learns the playbook he will be starter. I think he has one more chance to prove it or he will probably be traded.

Possibly losing Walls and Herndon eh? That royally sucks. However, I noticed that Walls may be staying?

Herndon will be missed, he's excellent.

And even more, if Jeb goes, we're hurting all over again at TE. He needs to stay because he can be a huge weapon for us...as he already has been.

I don't know why people are so high on putz i mean he did good but he wasn't anything special. I think he is easily replaced.

Actually i dont know why people are knocking on Middlebrooks. He was drafted as a FS, and shanny decided to move him to CB. He really has emerged this year, and had 10 pass deflections before he got injured, playing in a limited role.

We have yet to see the production of Jeff Shoate and Jeremy LeSueur. They should all be potential nickle and dime CB's. It was unfortunate that Walls and Middlebrooks got injured, because the Broncos couldve had a chance against the Colts...

What??? Who do you have in mind????

Putzier knows the system, he has a new position coach that will help him improve his technique on route running, and he showed major improvement in his blocking last season. He's not expensive and I hope Shanahan offers him a long-term contract before the season starts because he is going to have a monster season. He had a few drops last season, but he can stretch the field and if he adds some more strength look out.

I thought Middlebrooks played CB at Minnesota and he broke his leg the year of the draft? I remember that we tried him at FS before and it didn't work out, but I would love to see them try either him or LeSueur at FS this year, or maybe Ferguson or even Brandon(if he's out of Shanahan's dog house)

I really think LeSueur will make an impact this year, but everything is dependant on our D-Line. I think we have a very good group of CB's when they're all healthy, but we must have a pass rush to make them truely effective and we also need to put a cover FS back there with Lynch at SS.

I really liked Brandon his first two years in the league and I thought he had alot of potential, but then Shanahan signed Lynch and now Brandon can't get onto the field. We need somebody out there at FS that can cover and give help to the CB's down field, whether it be Ferguson, Brandon, Middlebrooks, or LeSueur. We can not go another season with Lynch and Kennedy back there together.

Your correct about middlebroke, was DAFTED injured and took for ever to heal when they tried him out at CB he sucked, sothey thought maybe his speed would make a good FS. Two years ago mid season he got his speed back and was backup CB nickle or dime. This past year year he was tried at CB for a while and when I saw him he was playing someone 5-8 yards and the guy kept running slants and ate him alive.

Middlebrooks did play cb at Minnesota and that is what we drafted him as.
