I'm sorry for my ignorance, but I had a quick question about redshirting, when someone is redshirted, can they play at all during the season? If so, how many downs/games? Thank you in advance.

If a player is redshirted, he cannot play or he will lose his redsirt. Since a redshirt year is essentially a free year, most teams don't like to waist a year by giving a guy only a handful of plays. A player can always have the redshirt lifted, in case of injuries, though. So if your team has a player hurt, and you hear of a solid player under redsirt, your team could still play that guy this year, but it will just count on his eligibility.

That's what I thought, but I just read the stats on Cedric in the General Information forum and it said that he held the record at Arkansas for having scored a Touch Down in all five season openers... ??? Thank you for your help.

Okay, on that, players can be offered a medical redshirt, in which they can petition the NCAA for an extra season of eligibility if they missed a vast majority of the season, which most often occurs if a player plays in no games or just parts of two. Some players receive several medical redshirt seasons, like Quinn Sypneiwski (sp) of Colorado. One of the worst decisions after being granted a medical redshirt was Jashon Sykes, who turned down the offer to attempt to play in the NFL. Who knows how his career would have been different had he gone back to school and turned in a good season...
