Plummer suspended by NFL
Associated Press

DENVER (Dec. 1, 2005) -- In a memo released by league commissioner Paul Tagliabue today, the NFL confirmed that Denver Broncos starting quarterback Jake Plummer will be suspended for a single game for "failure to adhere to league regulations regarding the fraternization between players and team cheerleaders."

The resulting suspension will mean that Plummer, who name has been circulated by some as a candidate for league MVP for the 2005 season, will miss the much-anticipated matchup this weekend against the Kansas City Chiefs. This crucial AFC West division game has major post-season implications on the line for both teams.

Head coach Mike Shanahan was not reachable for comment at the time of this story.

Earlier this season Plummer was romantically linked by a Rocky Mountain News columnist to a team cheerleader, Kolette Klassen, which prompted a local morning radio show to label her a "jersey chaser." Plummer's response to the columnist, which involved a heated cell phone conversation, ended with comments that broadly blasted Denver Broncos fans. The resulting comments were later printed, forcing Plummer to apologize shortly after.

According to Tagliabue's memo, Plummer has "repeatedly rejected requests by the league to to end his relationship with Ms. Klassen" and further stated that "the NFL disciplinary committee had no other recourse but to act in a manner to ensure compliance with regulations long-established regarding the conduct of players." Reportedly, league officials will reconvene next Wednesday to "further discuss the situation with Mr. Plummer and his agent to determine if any further action or continuation of this suspension will be required."

I mean, c'mon! I have a hard time with Plummer at times, but this is just stupid! Here we are, poised to make the strongest run into the post season in years and this joker is too busy chasing tail instead of the trophy!!!

I hope she's worth it, Jake.

Doesn't matter we could beat the Chefs with Todd Sauerbrun at QB.

Nice try, BTW. It is good to know that other teams' fans are skeered of Plummer though.

Alright, looks like I'm getting my chain yanked by one of my KC buddies. But I do know that the NFL doesn't allow players to date cheerleaders. Could he seriously get suspended for this?

I'm not sure about the suspension. But he definitely can get a raise from dating the cheerleaders. :D

I'd rather have that be the case than have to deal with Elway's closet...Terrell Davis once confided in a Playboy interview that he believes that Elway is gay. I mean, I'm cool if that's the case...his life and immortal soul, right? Just not the sort of guy I want my kid looking up to.

No. There is no NFL mandate against players dating cheerleaders. They may be individual organizations that forbid it, but not the NFL.

Get outta here with that crazy ****. Your first post was well thought out and actually had me nervous. But this post is ****ing ridiculous. I would understand if you called Brady, Garcia, Griese, or even Montana gay...but not Elway.

"John Elway couldnt shake a stick to Tom Brady."

Well, according to Davis, Elway would shake his stick at anything with a tight male frame.

Well, Elam married a cheerleader so the short answer is:

No.

It's regulated by the teams; the NFl has nothing to do with player-cheerleader dating.
