I went to my first Broncos game in 20 years last weekend (The Ravens game here in Denver) and even though we didn't play our most exciting game it was pretty awesome to watch anyway, and see Champ get his 8th int of the season! Have a blast in Buffalo, I'll be looking for some orange as I watch it on TV! :-) And stay warm!!!!

I remember some speculation prior to the season starting that both John Engelberger and Patrick Chuckwurah would be utilized (at times) at Defensive End to better our pass rush and hopefully get some QB sacks. I don't recall Chuckwurah playing DE at all and Engelbelberger seems absent as well.

Do you think this is something that might be implemented at all during the remainder of the year, or is our defensive line operating fine without changing personnel? Personally, I'd like to see our line pin their ears back and charge the Quarterback. Engelberger and Chukwurah seem like good players to do that.

12-15-2005, 05:26 PM
yeah, engelberger looked really good in preseason

Emancipator
12-15-2005, 05:28 PM
I think they would do fine, but you can't get Pryce, Ekuban, and Brown out long enough for the guys you mentioned to have a huge impact.

12-15-2005, 05:40 PM
I've been a little dissapointed in the use of both of those players... Chuckwurrah may never be a starting LB or DE on any team, but I remember him being a beast last year every time he was put in. For a player who only was on maybe 5-10 defensive snaps a game last year at most, I heard his name an awful lot. (Of course, I keep an eye out for him because there's not many players from the University of Wyoming in the NFL and it's not often at all I get to see one on my team.)

Engelberger also seemed good at getting to the passer when I've seen him...

Oh well.... I don't think Coyer's looking to hire me quite yet. :coffee:

The Broncos have two terrific power rushers in C. Brown and Pryce. In fact, there is so much talent there that they seem to be afraid to take one of them off the field. This may be a mistake, tantamount to, say, having Al Wison and Ray Lewis on the same team, so one of them plays OLB to keep them both on the field, effectively benching a very capable OLB. What I am getting at is, while Brown and Pryce stay on the field, Engelberger and Chukwurah stay on the bench. The primary factor from the weak side is more quickness and speed and less power (although you don't want a lack of power, of course). This defines Engelberger and Chukwurah.

I just don't know why it apparently doesn't dawn on Coyer that we are not getting to the QB as we should. IMHO, the problem is right there on the weak side. Pryce is a tremendous DL, but he is a power rusher, as I mentioned. I would be tempted to put Pryce back at DT, rotating with Myers. (The only reason Pryce would rotate there is because, as Dean pointed out elsewhere, he lost weight with the idea of playing DE.) Pryce could "float" along the line so the offense would not know where he's going to show up, while Engelberger and Chukwurah rotate at DE.

But then, what do I know? :coffee:

We hopefully haven't showed all our hand??

I personnally would like to see the Bronco's have Lynch on the field with Brandon and Ferguson... Shift him into LB at the snap. I think Lynch could put a hurt on some folks as an LB.

Chicago-Broncofreak
12-15-2005, 06:46 PM
Well we had better start getting more creative if we hope to make a run against the Colts. Say we get to the AFC championship and play them in the RCA Dome...then we had better not choke like the past two years and we had better prepare defeinsively twice as hard as they do. To beat Peyton, you have to keep him guessing. he is not mobile and we need to knock his a$$ down with some exotic looks and switching players around.

Initially, that may sound good, but first I don't believe Lynch could be talked into playing LB. Second, he is inexperienced there and too long of tooth to be learning a new position. Third, whom would you replace? Wilson? Gold? Williams? No, Lynch is best where he is now, and he is very good, despite some of the more uninformed opinions here. He is already putting the hurt on people. What we need back there is a good, ball-hawking, pass-covering, speedy safety to complement Lynch.

(Got any ideas on how we could trick Baltimore into trading Reed for a 4th rounder? :D )

Also, I can't believe we are holding anything back. If we are, then we are fools . . . . we certainly needed more than we had at KC, didn't we?
No, I am just suspicious that Coyer isn't very bright in some instances. But that's just me, I guess.

Bunch of us Broncos fans are gathering in lot 6. We'll have an Rv and plenty of grub and suds. Our plan is to set up shop around noon. It's my understanding the car lots don't open until closer to gametime so you might want to check with the bills parking dept.

Anyhow the more the merrier so maybe we'll see some of ya!

Here is the link to my site and a map of the parking lot with a few more details. We aren't driving the bus but we'll all the necessities for a good ole fashion Broncos style tailgate!

I'm from Ohio and this game in Buffalo will be the seventh Broncos games in the last 3 years, including 2 in Cincy, 3 in Indy, and the Falcons game in Denver last yr..and there is nothing like going to Broncos games, especially road games and just rubbing it in there faces when the Broncos score.
Unfortunately though I am on a 4 game losing streak..lol

Whats the word on who will get more carries in the Shanahan RBBC backfield. This is so unlike him. Get your stud and stay with him.

12-16-2005, 07:26 PM
I've said this on your first thread. Shannahan will go with Anderson and will allow Bell to get a few carries. That is how it will be for the rest of the year. Anderson the majority and Bell about 8-10 carries.
AnderBell.

Gregthree
12-16-2005, 07:30 PM
Thank you for you reply. I saw your reply in my first thread. I was looking for a better answer than that. More along the lines like Anderson and Dayne missed the flite to Buffalo and Bell is the only RB they are that will suit up. So if I understand you correctly, Anderson is the man and Bell comes in as relief. So if he were your guy, you would start Wells if Davis cannot go assuring yourself a full time player?

Well the common thought, at least by those in the media is, neither of the 2 are a "stud".

I tend to agree with that idea. Both backs are quite serviceable but neither is that stand out guy.

The knock on MA is his break away ability, he has had his long runs this year, but more often then not its grind it out type of runs.

Up to this point Tatum hasnt shown he is durable enough to carry the bulk. It seems as though he gets banged up quite often. He also seems to be lacking in the power department, its pretty rare that you see him push the pile.

So i just dont think Shanny has a choice of playing the stud. He has to use what he has chosen to keep, and so far it has worked well enough to push us into the AFC West lead and we have a solid shot at a #2 seed going into the playoffs.

Lomax
12-16-2005, 08:32 PM
I think he'd still have 1600 yards and 15 TDs by the end of the season. The way it worked out, splitting the carries makes both of these guys more efficient (they're on pace for just under 2000 yards between the two). The "common thought" is wrong. These guys combined are better than any one guy could have been for our team this season. Hence the only team ahead of us in total rushing yards is another team that uses RBBC.

Sorry I disagree.

I dont think either back could stand it alone. Again its only an opinion.

The common thought is exactly what it is, its neither wrong nor right, only speculation. We wont be able to prove that one without the other could achieve those expectations or lack there of.

Ther other team also has one of the best running QB's in the league. Im not taking anything away from Atlanta's rushing game, but it does boost the stats, just a tad bit.

Not pointing the finger but he isn't hooking up Lelie deep. He is overthrowing and underthrowing Lelie on the deep routes.

So in that case, let's get Lelie running some intermediate and short routes.

No Darrent, he has a groin injury. Looks like Champ and Foxworth will be manning the CB position. I am looking for the rushing game to get back on track between this weeks game and next weeks clash with the Faiders.

Elway,
I think Shanny will go back to AnderBell. Anderson getting most of the carries and Bell coming in for a few reps 8-10. I personally want to see Bell get about 15 touches. However, as long as the Broncos are running the ball then I'm fine. But Shanny has to make some running plays and zone blocking adjustments. It seems teams have adjusted to some of our running.

Yea, I'm sure it is. In college (off the field) they still have school and their lives aren't football 24/7. If you get a chance, watch NFL Total Access. They have a segment on their about the average week of an NFL team & what it's like. Their only day off, really, is Monday (if they arent the MNF game). The week starts on Tuesday. I'm sure that's a big adjustment rookies have to make when they make it to the NFL from college.

The RBBC system allows the Broncos to throw a different look out there anytime. Not many teams share that luxury. I think that's been a big edge the Broncos have & it's something that could easily dictate how successful this season will be.

Yeah, it kind of sucks though since I work Saturdays. I'm disappointed that I'll have to miss some of the game. Oh well, if it's anything like the rest of the season, games don't get interesting until the second half, primarily the 4th quarter.

I might get up to watch the second half on the PC myself too - that's what I did with the CHiefs game, three hours sleep before the game and three after it. The only thing is - that game was on tv so I could watch it in bed, I might be too lazy to get up to go to the PC.

Only kidding! Obviously, the mental aspect of the game is the biggest thing rookies have to deal with. Some (Foxworth, D. Williams) make the adjustment faster than others (Karl Paymah).

Well, the Vikings did. ;)

Morning to All! It's considered Broncos day here and the boys are up waiting with their jerseys. They'll be waiting for a while only 7:25 am here. I hope the Colts beat the Chargers so I only have to hear about the Colts and not both. A question: Do you think the SI jinx is strong enough for Tenn to beat Seattle - Alexander is on the cover? See ya'll later on got to get ready and go do a little shopping! GO BRONCOS!

I don't know if there's an easier way of doing it, but I just use multiple copy and pastes then wrap the quote tag round them individually, then if I feel like it, I'll add the original posters name.

Anyway, my services are required for a while, back in a bit :D

:coffee:

-----

As MN-Broncofreak said, changing the look bringing different things to Manning. In the past, when Lynch was in the game, Manning called his number and passed safely. Switch it up and still have the cover personnel in the game, while Lynch puts it to Manning? If they run Lynch can put the hit on the RB.

Why not change some things on third down situations?

Ma is wearingt down, Bell Is not durable enough..Why cant we get Dayne in there. If were having a hard time running why not give the man his shot. I just dont get it.Shanahan preaches the reason he brought Dayne here is b/c he fits the system so well, and that its the exact same offense he ran in college. I dont get it.
