For Those Of You Craving A Switch to the 3-4 D...

Undwerstand that if tyou make this move, the first mocve would be we would need a new D-Coordinator, because the 3-4 is not the Defense Larry Coyer Coaches.

If we want to make the move to the 3-4, we have two possible moves we can make before we do anyting...

Fire Coyer, and eithwer hire George Siefert (woul;d he come back to Coach D for Shanahan?)

    Or, hire Dom Capers...

The next move is, we would have to get a (true) Nose Tackle.

Rubin Carter is not coming back anytime soon, and the 3-4 absolutley demands a Big Time NT, and that does NOT mean Gerard Warren...

    New England has Vince Wilfork...

    San Diego has Jamal Williams...

    Pittsburgh has Casey Hampton.

    Get my point?

That means someone like the Anderson kid from Georgia...someone that goes about 6'2"-325 or so, to just clog up the middle and let the LB's fly to the ball and make plays.

First of all, why Dom Capers? There are better 3-4 specialists out there.

And I think we all know we'd need an NT because we all know Warren would be a good DE in 3-4. It's been discussed over and over and the season isn't even over yet. The NT prospects I like are Ngata (haha, fat chance), Gabe Watson, and Babatunde Oshinowo. Gerald Anderson has been someone I've watched closely and he does not impress me much. I'll wait to see some scouts' verdicts on him before I judge him though.
A proponent of Denver drafting Cutler since 10/05.

So naturally, my Adopt-A-Bronco is Jay Cutler!

Ummm....Larry Coyer used to coach the 3-4 in the USFL. He's very familiar with that defense. Infact here, read this....

Don't ever compare or put the USFL in the same sentence with the NFL. Remember they went out of business when you lost your hair. Our 4-3 would be fine if we actually had 4 good linemen. We need 4.

How much do you know about the USFL?

There's quite a few Hall of Fame players from that league, and many Hall of Fame calibur coaches got their start there. Infact, the USFL is credited with the creation and development of most of the offenses and defenses that are popular today.

What a horribly ignorant statement, you should be ashamed at how foolish you sound.

The USFL went out of business due to poor economic decisions, it had nothing to do with the calibur of play or individuals found therein.

Marv Levy, Dom Capers, Ted Cotrell, Chris Palmer, George Allen, Larry Coyer, Chuck Fairbanks, Pepper Rodgers, John Ralston, Dale Lindsey, Joe Marciano, Jim Fassel, Steve Mariucci, Steve Spurrier, John Fox to name a few.

Tom Butler, Bill Polian, and Carl Peterson were all involved in ownership.

In 1983 and 1984 most of the best college prospects were all choosing the USFL over the NFL.

My advice to you is this... learn what you are talking about or shut the hell up. You now look like the dumbest jackass on this board. Cheers!

That sounded pretty dumb also. Arena football and college both put out a lot of good players and coaches for the nfl. I doubt you can come up with a way to make them sound like they are nearly as good or competitive as nfl football.

Also the 4-3 is better we just need to get a dominant pass rusher this offseason rather than trying to change everything and having some bad defensive seasons while making the transition.

I think there is a difference between today's NFL and the USFL of twenty years ago.

I am not particularly a big fan of Coyer's, even as a 4-3 Coach, but I think the NFL is about specilaization now more than ever, and even if Coyer Coached that Defense once upon a time, it is my opinion that you should hire a Coach to run a system you want to run that is based in the same philosophy. Clearly, since Coyer was given Carte Blanche when he was hired, after he was reputed to be a disciple of the then popular 'Buccaneer/Monte Kiffin' Defense, he clearly has a philosophical prference to the 4-3.

I mean, I am sure Shanahan coached the Wishbone back in the day at OU, but I am not sure how much that helps him now.

Not really, his argument was that the league was good for who it put out and I say good players come from many places and those places still arent as good as the nfl just because they had some good players/coaches. If you put any nfl team of the time against those teams they would have dominated them. He was calling the other guy stupid when he just stated the obvious. The NFL is and always has been the best and most talented league for football.

It's experience. Think of a career, even if you haven't been an accountant for 20 years, after catching up on any recent nuances, the basic procedure remains the same.

The point was Larry Coyer is familiar with the 3-4. Whether he prefers it or not is a completely different argument and you raise valid points. Can he implement it if he desires? Certainly.

Well since you find it so obvious then maybe your comment to the other guy "My advice to you is this... learn what you are talking about or shut the hell up. You now look like the dumbest jackass on this board. Cheers!" was just you being what? It doesnt matter if he coached the d in another league because it was a long time ago and in a worse league. The only thing this broncos team needs is 1 more lineman that is real good at pass rushing to go with all the run stoppers and the alright pass rush ends that are already on the team. If they switch to the 3-4 now you would be giving away the next season while everyone buys into the new system when you just came off of a 12-13 win season and have a good enough team to try for the same next season. Just because the patriots run the 3-4 doesnt mean that everyone in the league should switch to it.
