Damien Nash (29) played in three games last season for the Broncos, gaining 98 yards on 24 carries. (Getty Images / Doug Pensinger)Indianapolis - Tragedy struck the Broncos for the second time in less than two months Saturday when backup running back Damien Nash collapsed and died after a charity basketball game in St. Louis, his agent, David Canter, said late Saturday night. Nash was 24.

Nash, who was signed as a free agent in August, played in three games last season and had 24 carries for 98 yards. He started as a rookie in 2005 with Tennessee, which took him in the fifth round. He played in three games for the Titans.

Nash was from East St. Louis, Ill. He played two season at Missouri after starting at Coffeyville (Kan.) Community College.

In the early morning hours of Jan. 1, Darrent Williams was shot and killed while riding in a limousine after leaving a nightclub in Denver, hours after the Broncos' season ended. Police have not made any arrests in that case.

This is a sudden tragedy and I'm sorry to hear it. I thought that he was a big, strong bruising back that we could've found a spot for. I had hoped that we would've used him like we had used Mike Anderson to wear the defense down and then put Tatum in. Very sad news. I'll pray for his family and friends.

God I can't believe this. Damien Nash really did have the potential to be a bruising back. He had great size and great speed and agility.

Why does this always happen?

Hey who cares about his potential now?

Sad, sad news. Charity events were something that he should've been doing more of, and it looks like he was. He was getting his chance, turning around his NFL "life", then wham.

Sad news.

Well, football aside, someone is always hurt by a death. My condolensces go out to his family and friends, as well as to all families who lose someone dear to them. Losing a loved one is never easy, and there is nothing that can be said to take the pain away. The only advice I can give is to remembering the good times with that individual.

This is just another example of how fragile life really is. There are no guarantees that any one of us will be alive tomorrow. With that said, make sure those close to you know that you love them because you never know when the last time you speak with them will be.

What terrible news.
My heartfelt condolences to his family and friends.
Not only was Nash a young football player with time ahead of him,
he was a young man with a full life ahead of him.
It's easy to forget that pro-football is only a decade out of these athletes lives.
More importantly, it is a way to earn a living so you can spend time with loved ones.
Nash was evidently a compassionate family-guy, it's tough to lose good people.

On the event, I would guess that if your brother has had a heart transplant at age 29, something geneticaly isn't copesetic. Hindsight is always 20/20, I don't know how with the professional medical staff at the disposal of the Broncos, and the fitness exams of professional football this could have been overlooked.

It has been said in these posts how short life can be. It also can take turns that you never would have expected.

R.I.P. Damien Nash, this is horrible. 24 year olds aren't supposed to collapse and just die...

I am at a loss for words

Two young men taken at such a young age and both seemed to be very good people....

R.I.P Damien, you are now in great company with the big man above and D-Will at your side :salute:

Gone but not forgotten :salute:

I'm stunned this is just horrible. I really liked Nash in the few games I saw him in and thought he had great potential.

I cannot believe that the Broncos are hit again with another tragedy. The entire Broncos organization I can feel is very hard hit because of Damien's loss. Words cannot describe what the Broncos are going through right now. My thoughts and prayers go out to Damien's Family, the players, coaches, staff of the Broncos, Mr. Pat Bowlen, Mike Shanahan, and all other Broncos fans who are dealing with this tragedy right now. This season there will be 13 players on the field, the starting 11, and Darrent and Damien. Super Bowl XLII is for Darrent and Damien, and with what the Broncos are going through, we need to honor both Darrent and Damien by winning Super Bowl XLII, we need to go to the Super Bowl and we need to win it in his honor.

I am so fortunate that I got to see DN and DW play in the SD game. I am glad I was at that game to see both of them play well and show everbody the talent they had.

Darrent Williams and Damian Nash you two will be greatly missed. :salute:
