Ok, so pardon me, but is there any reason why Jay's ankles are being taped? I noticed this on Tuesday. Is it precautionary or what? Am I being paranoid? I know he's played on a sprained ankle, but yeah...
Anyone know?

I wonder if they taped his ankles because they expect him to play football at some point during the day. :D

I hope you're just being paranoid....

I don't know if this is right....but my brother's ankles are always wrapped when he plays football. He is a pretty big kid and they wrap them just to give them a bit more support. Dont know if thats what they are doing with Jay or not.

Don't worry about. Not only is it a precautionary measure it is also used for support of the ankle. the ankle is pretty weak compared to the stress that these athletes put on them and the tape is used to add further support!! No worries, I taped my ankles up in highschool ball.

Well, as far as I can tell, he's never had them wrapped before. (At least not from what I could tell.)
And this is the only other time I saw his ankle wrapped:

He's always had them wrapped, just not on the outside of the sock. Maybe something did happen to make them wrap them on the outside, wouldn't surprise me a bit....

if you are not in the u.s. or can't get a game then click on this link - http://www.myp2p.eu/NFL.htm and you can pick one to watch - unfortuantly the bronco game channel is offline at the moment.

its a good option if you want to watch a live game (you can also follow the broncos on nfl.com / gamecenter) play by play or here on the boards!

I was futzing around looking for this gameday thread and missed it. Not sure.

Broncos first series wasn't impressive. Dallas is bringing big time pressure and right now our o-line seems to have picked up where they left off last year in terms of protecting the QB.

Sorry, I haven't had time to read through the entire thread so if I post something that's already been said - I apologize.

I'm watching the broadcast from Texas so I'm only getting the Cowboys' side of it. The defense looks BAD again. There seems to be a lot of confusion among the defensive backs before each snap. The linebackers are invisible again. The only guy I see stepping up so far is Engleberger. I'm starting to get a bit concerned about this defense.

08-18-2007, 05:50 PM
Nate Webster is also looking good tonight - i like his fire. John Lynch of course is also looking good on the D. Offensively, I think Brandon is still injured so it could be affecting his play but the O-Line isn't giving Jay time and it's not opening up a lot of room for Travis Henry to get through.

doggz109
08-18-2007, 05:51 PM
I doubt Cutler is gettin gun shy. The kid got killed repeatedly at Vandy and got right back up each time.

I have NEVER NEVER....in 30 years of watching the NFL seen a pre-season game that was played as well as a regular season game by ANY team. This is the time they try stuff out and work out the kinks. Not to mention Denver has plenty of new starters on both sides of the ball.

Hence the reason I stated that maybe he is getting gunshy from the pressure. He has had two or three throws when there was no pressure (on quick couple step drop throws) where he badly missed the receiver (not even in the ball park).

As I have said it in multiple posts in this thread, the O-line is parting like the red sea. Clearly they think Ware must be Moses and therefore feel obliged to let him come through untouched.

He needs the experience. The O-line is what it is. It has struggled to protect the QB for several years now. It isn't going to somehow become a great o-line in three weeks. Cutler and the offensive play calling needs to figure out how to play behind it.

Apart from Adams, we have no one that fits in with what Bates wants, and we decide to trade our best DT before we have even played a snap in Preseason. That is rubbish coaching, and rubbish roster management! Who do they propose will fill in his place? Because no one looks the goods to me!

Trust me.. if he stays in the game in a PRESEASON game, and throws 5-6... even 10 more passes.. is THAT really going to give him the "experience" that could make or break the year???? Come on.. no. But staying in,a nd taking a chance of getting hurt, CAN make or break the season.

Don't be embarrassed, but you should be ashamed.

I don't care if it is pre-season, the 'starters' are in there playing at the moment, and if they don't get the job done then it is simply not good enough!

Bad play-calling from Shanahan, and even worse execution from the players (yes I am looking at you Cutler. I don't care how bad the o-line is, some of those throws are just not on!); and if this continues throughout the year, then expect to be even more ashamed.

The defense is pure rubbish (and it worries me more that Romo has 117 passing yards on 8 throws than how they are running the ball), however at least they have turned it over a couple of times only to have the offense waste two red-zone opportunities.

Disgrace!

Well, I don't know where in TX you are, but I'm watching Moose Johnston and the guys from the Cowboys network call the game so, like, um, what do you expect? Beside which, apart from Marshall and that one pick from Bly, the Broncos haven't given them much to talk about anyway. We can keep saying, "it's just pre-season, base D, etc. etc. " if ya want, but that excuse is gonna quit working in about two weeks. I'm sick of watching Romo step up in the pocket like QBs did all year last season and LBs having to make ALL the run stops, even short, while we bemoan the fact we can't trade our only proven run stuffer at DT.

And now Ekuban, one of the few bright spots on the line, looks to be done for the year. I hope Tim Crowder gets very healthy and very good fast, because it looks like we're gonna need him (and a lot of other things.... ) Will be prayin' for Henry and Ekkie, but right now it looks like the Cowboys have gelded the Broncos. And they ain't that good, folks.

OK, so we spend more money on our players than anyone else in the league, have the best cornerback tandem, have a running back who can put up over 1000 yards behind a substantially worse offensive line, have a QB who should be in the process of getting adjusted to the NFL (and it this point should be riding along fairly smoothly), have receivers who the coaching staff thinks are good because they didn't try to get any new ones, have an upgraded Dline, and we are stilll getting rocked.

I don't know who to blame... Shanny really can't cut it anymore. Our players look like they have spent the majority of their practice time in a circle jerk in the visiting locker room. Strahan for Denver's first round and a conditional late pick.

If Ekuban is done for a while I would expect that trade to tgo through.

which would be a blessing in disguise

Unlike some other 'posters', this comment makes some sense.

The kid is young, has limited experience. It's much better for him to figure out how to grind through a tough game in the preseason, rather than in the regular season when the games count.
if he gets crushed behind a fourth string line throwing passes to third string recievers there may be no regular season

Looks like the Emotional trip back to Texas was too much for the Team, they are stinking it up out there right now.

the imjuries we are facing this year has become crazy...when do we get a break.....injuries is the one thing that slows a team down.

Wow, I hope not.
At this rate I would figure we were in Frank Okam range.
But if our lines are in this kind of shape it can put us up in the Kenny Phillips range.

Strahan has what? Another 3 years left.
That trade would be about as worthwhile as his marriage.

The fact that it has even been discussed makes me wonder why the team is in Superbowl or bust mode.

That would be a dumb trade. A first round pick for a guy whose career is almost done. forget about it

I agree he is too old for that kind of a trade

If he plays like this in the regular season, there will be no playoffs.

The O-line is playing like it did last year, and may very well play this year. Time for him to learn to play behind an O-line that can't provide protection, just like all the QBs before him had to.

Many people have been under the misconception that the bootlegs and other play fakes were in the game because Plummer couldn't throw from the pocket. The fact is that they were in there because the O-line couldn't keep a pocket intact. That was the case even when Plummer was signed, and that is why ESPN, the writers and the Broncos stated Jake would be a good fit, because a 'mobile' QB fit the Broncos system. Translated, that meant that a QB had to be able to run for his life and make plays outside of the pocket, because the O-line couldn't protect a QB in the pocket.

96 rushing yards in ONE HALF, and that's with Dallas starting one of their many scoring drives at the 7. Plus we lost our only legit run stuffer at DE; tell me again how we need to dump Warren's "bad attitude". Our first teamers played the first teamers from a team that was one and done last post-season and it's 24-6; my attitude's not too great right now either....

I'd be happy to have Strahan, but it's STILL NOT DE THAT WORRIES ME; it looks like we're going to need all our first day picks next year to find some DTs and a MLB. So far our best "run stuffers" have been Champ and Foxworth. Um, yeah....
