  • Would like your input...

I already put this on one board but would like some more perspective (as much as I can at least)

I'm in the business of doing business and am planning to open a Sports Bar/Brewery in my home town within the next two years.

I live in Colorado in a small but booming town named Brighton. And we have a high demand (among the public I surveyed), and no places of that sort. We have a Mojo's but the menu sucks and the service is terrible. Thats really the only comopetition in the area.

I'm having trouble coming up with menu items, as of right now I don't think price is much of an issue since I still have to get things decided.

So....what would you like to recommend?

Would appreciate 3 different versions of input, an Appetizer, an actual Entree, and a Dessert

Looking forward to your input! Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated as well!

    Wow!

That's a huge undertaking, and a lot of work... and the success rate of Restaurants is EXTREMELY daunting... although I think Sports Bars do a bit better.

I don't have any SPECIFIC recommendations yet...

    But basic advice...

Simple is ok, and sometimes better than fancy!

It's more important to make sure that whatever you put on your menu, you do it WELL!

    I'll think of more later.

Thanks.......I've learned alot so far, I went to State for Restaurant management in DECA, didnt make it to Nationals but did very well.

I think it's just something that I would have a ton of fun in, sure it's alot of work, but it's something I enjoy seeing as I'm a busser at the Local Lone Star, which taught me alot about that "fancy" stuff because the prices can be very outrageous, and your choices are......Steak, Steak, Steak with fish, steak with crab, steak with lobster, steak and potatoes, steak and fries, steak in between 2 buns.

Its so hard to choose :brick:

Well, I'm sure you already have wings on the menu, but BONELESS wings are a must. I know alot of people that like wings, but will only eat the boneless kind.

Entree: You want to go with a jalepeno popper burger. Just top a burger with jalapenos and a slice of cream cheese. You can also make a chicken sandwich variation quite easily. Put a side of ranch on that for dipping/pouring on the sandwich

As for deserts.... I've never eaten desert at a sports bar, but they make some pretty awesome cheesecakes that you can order thru places like Sysco and some of those other food services...

Bighton is a good town My folks live about 10 miles north of Brighton. I met my hubby in Brighton.

If its going to be a sports bar....hmmm....

Baskets of pork rinds (instead of chips) with hot sauce bottles.

Colorado is great for getting some great local beers. Fat Tires are good

          Serve pizza, burgers, wings, nachoes.

BIG TV sets, with a HUGE room dedicated to the Orange and Blue. Have recliners scattered around the TV, with side tables to set beer and snacks on.

Trying to think of things I make for Broncos games....

Yeah, but even people with years of Restauranteur experience can fail when opening their own restaurant.

You have the BBC? Ever hear of a show called Ramsey's Kitchen?

He's one of the biggest chefs in the world (He's more known in Europe though) and he goes around and helps failing restaurants. If you haven't watched it yet, you need to. I believe the food channel has an american version now.

In the end, he ALWAYS makes them simplify the menu.

It doesn't matter how many variations of burgers you have (although Jet's sounds AMAZING) You can do lots or little... that's pretty simple... but if the burger itself isn't any good, it doesn't matter what you put on it.

Wings have easily been the popular thing to bring up among friends and people at school.

Didnt think of the Jalepeno burger, thats a great idea.

I was thinking of taking that route or even since I brought this idea up to my family everyone has been on board to be a part of it somehow, whether it be my Mom in charge of the Kitchen (AMAZING cook), my brother Bussing tables since by the time its open he will be 16, or my sister serving. My best friend is also planning to learn how to brew beer and I was thinking of making that a staple among it all, he can manage as well.

Love Brighton, Been here almost my whole life, and its booming.

The pork rinds is a great idea, I have been to a restaurant that served em before but cant remember the name

Pizza is something that surprisingly has not come up alot, but could be easily put in since I don't want to stick to really just one area of food sold at places like this. Burgers has been popular, just need to come up with ideas on what kinds, and Skywalker actually first brought Nachos up to me over IM, surprised noone else brought that up too.....another great idea.

The room is defiantly a can-do, since I've always dreamed of such a room

True, you HAVE to start with a high quality burger to begin with!!!

Stick with the simple stuff. Make sure you do a few things REALLY well. People will appreciate a small menu done right over a large menu full of mediocre stuff.

I actually have watched it once or twice, and usually if its not the menu (or it was a 50 percent chance haha) that it was the appearance, I plan on spending this time between the time I open and now planning and narrowing it down to almost a science since alot of people just open it up.

I think its at least worth a shot, I mean no point in just living life not taking a risk, not to mention I really have no ideas at all.

And not to mention by the time I open this place up I will have some experience managing at Lone Star, try out Cooking at a bit, and even try being a server out, so i can have an all around feel for it.

                    Great point!

I love the input I'm getting, really I do and appreciate it so much.

I was thinking of maybe a menu with enough variety to start (but not too overwhelming), and see if theres room to add anymore, I'm getting great ideas all over the place.

Getting that experience will be HUGE...

If for no other reason than because you may have to step in and help in ANY capacity... you should try to grasp it ALL.

And Nachos rock! Big plate, covered in toppings and melted cheddar or other REAL cheeses, not 'Nacho' cheeses.

                      Again, best of luck!

New York pizza is a big deal in sports bars, as well as chillie and speedies.

For pizza there is every type of topping you can imagine.

My fav. is buffalo wing with ranch dressing (trust me, its a lot better than it sounds)

I also love speedie pizza as well.
