  • Going to Vegas! Need some advice.

A couple of friends and I are going to Las Vegas for a couple days in May. (3 days/2nights)

We've never been there before so I was looking to get some advice from those of you that have.

I'd like to go to Star Trek: The Experience and the Hoover Dam, but beyond that, I'm clueless.

Any ideas? We'd like to make it as economically friendly as possible as we don't have a great deal of money.

We do not plan on gambling at all.

    Thanks!

If you are not a gambler and looking for something special than do this:

OMG not sure I can over it all

The Downtown Fremont Experience is really cool with the light shows they put on every 15 minutes after dark. They will jam music to a visual show similar to a snow boarder's pipe upside down. It's a huge half pipe that goes off with different themes/music

The Mirage Volcano (every 15 minutes) is pretty neat to see right next door to the Treasure Island Pirate Battle Ship that only goes every 1-1/2 hours.

Balagio does a water fountain show timed with music and that is pretty neat too. You never know what song they will play during this because is always changes. This goes every 30 minutes.

If you like roller coasters, New York is the best for that. What a great ride. But they charge you ten bucks a ride if not higher by now.

Stratosphere tower coaster is BS for the price you pay. You have to pay $15 a person to go up the tower and then it's pricey after that.

Sahara has Speed coaster which is a cool launch, short coaster that brings to the end and then you finish the track backwards. I love this thing. They also have a NASCAR bar which is WAY COOL!!

There is so much to see and do, without gambling it's crazy.

The Forum Shops at Ceasar's Palace, there are some awesome sights with the Atlantis 3D ride that you don't have to ride but can see a visual program outside of.

Also in the shops you can see a statue program right inside the mall. They have a little show they have and fun to see. The entire place has a skyline affect inside this shopping mall.

        OMG I could go on....

        PM Me for specifics.

What do you think of this "Power Pass"?

We wanted to go to a couple of these places, so this looks like a deal.

I don't know how it works exactly though.

I'm laughing at myself getting excited for somebody such as yourself.

            A Vegas Virgin

I know we have members here that live there now, but I did live there for 11 years.

You will have a blast being a n00b.

Bring LOTS of quarters if you do gamble but most of all.. Watch your back.

It's not a scary place but "those" people are out there.

              DO NOT DO THIS!!

It is one of the, not really a scam, but you can budget yourself better once your there.

              where are you staying?

Taxi's will kill you too. There are shuttles that will work and the monarail is also a good way to go up and down the strip

I was in vegas a few years ago and I might go again next year.
I was only there briefly but it was pretty fun.
                    The strip is hella long.

I wanted to go to the ESPN Zone since I like going to different ESPN Zones and we kept walking and walking. We should have taken a cab but it was a fun walk I guess. Took about an hour.
And the hotels there are awesome.
Damn I get all excited just reliving the memories

                      POINT!!

I had some friends stay at Fremont's Fitzgerald's last New Year's Eve and they loved it. BUT they decided to walk to the strip.

I told them ahead of time how far that is but no......... they knew better

When they got back, the wife told me DAMN that's a long walk... I said...Yeah told you so.

She finally admitted it took them almost 2 hours.

THe NASCAR Zone is at Saraha a block or two or three from the tower.

                      ESPN is at New York...

                      Another 2 hour walk

Yea, well I'm the stupid one who wanted to go. Though my dad and buddies didn't mind either.
I had no idea how long it was. I was like "yea, it be cool to walk the strip for 30 minutes as we walk to the ESPN Zone.

We were on the clear opposite side.
I dont get tired of walking much but damn I was worn out and got a headache kinda. It was like 5 different environments or so we passed. It was quite interesting. I felt like a kid "are we there yet, are we there yet". Cause after the first hour or so I was like "damn, how far are we from it".

It was pretty crazy. Then when we were done I asked if we were walking back. Thank god we decided to get a cab.

                        Vegas is pretty huge.

Did the millennium in Vegas and 4 or 5 superbowls...

TDK - ust walking around and seeing everything will be an experience for you on your first trip..

I don't gamble much if at all either so I wasn't attracted to Vegas for the gambling. Feel free to punch the bums handing out porno literature...ok just kidding, don't get yourself arrested...

Hoover dam is amazing...a must see.

My favorite places were the stratosphere for the views ( I don't remember paying anything to get to the top)...the slingshot at the top is frickin awesome! One of the Casino's has a gigantic aquarium, can't remember which, that had sharks and stingrays when I was there last. There is also a tiger exhibit in one of the casinos, again can't remember which...too much alcohol I guess.. If you have time and can afford it, I highly recommend checking out a magic show.

My best advice is just walk through all the hotel/casinos, you will be amazed at some of the stuff that goes into them...Have fun and keep your wallet and important items in your front pockets!

Oh BM69, I walked from New York, New York to the Stratosphere and it took about 3 hours stopping occasionally. We clocked it the next day in a rental car and it was 3.5 miles...

                            Viva Las Vegas

Madame Tussauds wax museum is really cool. Also, I suggest getting a monorail pass since you are gonna want to walk the whole strip. I believe it is 10 or 15 dollars for a day pass which is well worth it. Don't waste your time on the aquarium at the Mandelay Bay....not much to see. The Luxor at the end of the strip shaped like a pyramid is really cool. If you have never been to vegas, check out the MGM Grand. It is huge and part of vegas history. Stay away from the peeps trying to get you to go to their time share condos. Though they give you a free buffet ticket, it takes a couple hours of time away from you experiencing other strip activity. The best buffet in vegas is at the Rio....unbelievable!
