      I heard that on the news this morning. There was an article in the Commerical News this weekend about how unstudied these mid-US quakes are.
      Most of the attention is on San Andres, which is understandable.

      The article said that the reason a lot of people felt the earthquake last week, and so far away, is because the bedrock under us is very very old and rigid. Anyone with a basement on that bedrock likely felt it more than someone who lives in a house with a cement pad.
      The cement pad and soil provide a "cushion" to absorb the energy.

      Pretty neat stuff. Very unpredictable!
