As I've been sitting here reading the boards today, i have been struck with how abysmal the grammar and language skills are.
I realize these are message boards, not a college thesis, but is it really all that hard to spell words correctly and use a bit of punctuation for clarification??
Therefore, i want to provide this thread as an opportunity for others who may be fed up with it, to post your grammatical pet peeves.
Here goes:
There, They're, Their ---
there is a place (we are going there)
they're is a contraction (they are, they're going there)
their is possessive (they are going there with their bags)
Two, too, to ---
two is a number. (we've got two great cb's)
too means an excessive amount (there are too many people who can't spell)
to is for every other usage (he's going to choke)
Where, wear, we're, ware ---
where is a place (where are we going?)
wear is to erode or become tired, or what you do with clothes (he wears down in the 4th, while wearing his uniform)
we're is a contraction (we are, we're #1 )
ware is a product or service (we're going where, wearing what, to sell our wares?)
its, it's ---
it's is a contraction and only a contraction (it is, it's a long message)
its is usually possessive or sometimes a plural (It's scratching its back)
Ok, that's all I've got for now. Please add to the list. Common misspellings, incorrect word usage, or any other language related pet peeves.
P.S. Before anyone comments about me not using capitols and punctuation in the above, it was a list. Lists do not require punctuation, only good spacing for clarity.
