Stories like this that scare the **** outta me. I'll get a gun and tazer when I get my own place. I'm 20; somebody broke into my apt last semester, which I was at school during, but my roommate walked in on 'im. Was a "friend." Some friend... ******bag.

I'll have my weapons and a big-ass dog.

Oh... I am really glad to hear you're alright. All of you that shared a story. I'd have been piss-scared. One reason why I hate sleeping in a house/apt alone.

I have a friend who's a cop here in NJ...he told me that if anyone ever breaks into your house and you have a gun, just shoot him dead. Nothing can be proved as there is only one witness...you.
Just gotta say that he was coming at you.

That's not the same in France... The guy need to have a gun to talk about self-defence...

If no one is there....just saying something like "he said he was going to kill me" and then start crying....that'll convince the judge.

i believe this is basically correct. futhermore, at when someone breaks into a house at night, i'm pretty sure there is a presumption of self-defense if you shoot them. plus, i can't imagine a jury that wouldn't be sympathetic.

i have a similar story. an elderly lady who used to live across the street from me had her house broken into once. she heard the person and said "who are you" from her bedroom. the guy replied "your momma." to which she replied "you're not my mother!" the guy left through the window he came in and was never caught. i just love her response though; the guy probably figured she must be packing heat to say something like that.

thats unbelievable to me (i mean i believe you but i think its crazy). there is no reason why you should have to risk your own life to make sure the criminal who breaks into your property really wants to hurt you. imho anytime someone comes into your house you have every right to shoot them in the back. its their fault.

btw though, in the US, when you are in public you do have to be in fear of your life to use deadly force; although the other person doesn't necessarily have to have a gun. but if someone is just robbing you/beating you up, for instance, you can't kill them (personally, i think you should be able to, but that's another story). its only when someone comes into your house that self defence is basically assumed.

Not to get too off topic but that reminds me of the South Park episode where Ned and Uncle Jimbo tell the boys it's okay to hunt animals as long as they yell "It's coming right for us!" before shooting them.

So, if someone breaks into your house just yell "He's coming right for me!" and then blow him away. All will be well.

Just to let you guys know: one time a criminal fell down a set of stairs (of the house he was robbing) and broke a leg, I think; he ended up sueing the people who lived in the house.

                            And won.

Yeah, this law in France really sucks ! I agree with you that we should have the right to defende our life... ... But that's the law..
Now, there are less guns in France (you can't buy a gun easily like in USA or Canada)... May be we have to fight with swords or knifes ... LOL
