I am creating a New Snowboard thread for all those Junkies out there that love it as much as i Do.....

Feel free to share your exploits, your favorite gear, your favorite tricks, you favorite spots etc.....keep it COC clean


My top 5 current boards that i have actually ridden

Sadly I have never once snowboarded in utah or colorado.......

I got started kinda late in life (26) so I'm not nearly as good as the kids are, but I absolutely live to snowboard!!

My current setup:

Nitro Pantera 163 - Last year's model bought new this year. Fantastic powder board, decent all-mountain board. Very stiff (would probably suck to jib on), plows through junk and crud, and effortlessly floats on poweder. Very fast board as well. Could use a bit more "pop" for quick turns on hard pack and groomers.

KS T1's - Outer lace up with inner boa. Bought new this year, one of the "eyelets" has popped off. Needs to be sent back under warrenty for replacement. Other than that seemingly rare issue, these have been by far the best boots I've ever ridden in. After replaceing the footbeds, they have been comfortable, warm, and very responsive. They also are on the stiff side (which I prefer).

Burton Cartel Bindings - Decent bindings. Gets the job done. Will be the next peice of equipment I replace (They are an older model). As with other Burton products I've bought, they don't have the build quality the price would indicate. I've had peices break off, and at $200 brand new that is not acceptable. And for the record I'm not hard on my equipment at all and take good care of it.

My favorite mountains.

1a: Snowmass. Huge, varied terrain, usually can escape crowds if you avoid certain areas. Aspen Ski Co runs a top-notch resort, short lines, and when the snow is good, it's GREAT. Only downsides are the snobs on the hills, the neverending fashion show, and parking.

1b: Arapahoe Basin. GREAT terrain, rarely crowded, not a "resort" so doesn't draw the crowds many larger mountains do. Not newby friendly which means less slow people to dodge. Small, but again has GREAT terrain. Only slightly below Snowmass due to Snomass being much larger and has better lifts.

2. Steamboat - on a good powderday, this mountain is fantastic. Some of the best trees anywhere. Defines "champange powder". Does get crowded.

3. Sunlight (Glenwood Springs CO) - Small, family mountain. Close to home so it's convenient, and where I learned. Not very large, but I love it because I'm comfortable here. Plus, my job pays for my family's season pass, free = better! There are a few areas you can scare yourself on, but mostly a laid back family mountain. Rarely in line at the lifts more than 2-3 minutes.


Nothing I love better than a nice, steep run in 6+ inches of light, dry CO powder!!!

I like nitro and their boards, however 163 is to long for me. i now rock a 156 simply because of jibbing, jumps and backcountry kickers....I have finally conquered a short board in the powder yeah.....although 163 must be heaven on those cruising powder days...

the boots.....i actually wondered about those this year but i finally went with the DC scout Boa boots...there as comfortable as there shoes.....

and i use to really love rossignol boards, but i am a huge DC addict as Travis rice is my snowboarding Idol, and has been since he broke onto the scene back in the day...so even though its better to wait for a new company to iron out the kinks there first year i couldnt resist. I ended up being very pleased.

As for the cartel bindings i actually had the same problem last month, and decided to sell them cheap and get a new pair. I now have the UNION force bindigs and they rock.....slightly better value than burton, and much more durable and comfortable.....if your willing to fork out 200 for bindings i would highly recommend them.

I still wish I could have made it ther to enjoy the snow...maybe someday....I spent most of my time snowboarding the northwest before joining the military, then slowed down a bit. but the miliatry brought me overseas to italy and of course it became snowboard haven in europe. I basically just sepreated and stayed in italy with my family...


I can say though my dream is to finally make it to colorado for a big 2 week trip.....but it is becoming very ecomnomically unfriendly to travel



And i really agree with your last statement for me nothing beats the freedom and silence of going through some off piste into some knee deep fluffy podwder....its total freedom for me!

I have a Nitro Team 157, my plan was to get a whole new setup just for powder days (last year there were so many powderdays!). I love the Team, it's a great all around board and is decent in powder, but as you know a shorter board does take more work. I ended up getting tired earlier, so thought I'd get a setup dedicated for powder days.

The Pantera also is thinner at the tail than the tip, creating more float. The powder instead of really taking a lot of work, is now like floating on clouds! What surprised me, once I got used to the length, I like the Pantera more on the mountain than the team!

I'm envious of the places you've gone! Outside of a one day trip to Jackson Hole (when I first started and really sucked), all my riding has been in Colorado. Although if I'm limited, I can't think of a better place to be limited too!

Good feedback on the Union bindings - they are on my short list when I can afford to replace mine. I've heard great things about them.

who the heck is arthur luongo(FRA) and how the heck did he win the artic challenge.....


the artic challenge was sick, with many riders throwing down some progressive tricks.

Newcomer Matt ladely(USA) threw some sick stuff down to take second place while annti anutti(FIN) took 3rd place....



anyone seen the Travis rice movie thats it thats all???? if not you need to, best snowboard film out.......

I use photobucket, but there are plenty of image hosting sites out on the interwebz you can choose from. All it takes is copying from one of those sites (after you upload your pic to them), then pasting the image (img) code into your post. I am about as un-techie as you can get, but it is pretty easy to do.
