Go ahead spoil yourself to a hot coffee and donut on a not so pleasant day!
In fact, try an apple fritter with your cup of java. I LOVE APPLE FRITTERS!!!

Shut down air, that's nuts... I don't know how bad it is back east, probably pretty humid where your at ... but I imagine very hard to go without air this time of year.
Have a parent in CO that I cover their electric bill - and have to admit I love summer, because she doesn't ever use the air at all... always says she don't need it - so that bill is nothing in the summer. When I visit though that air is on.
Another energy saving day. It got up to 100 yesterday. High 80s-90s this next week.
That's very nice of you to do that for your mother.
My mother-in-law lived in MA. Fans, but no air conditioning. It would get uncomfortable. She broke down and got a window unit. I think she only used it when we came up to visit. Otherwise, she preferred open windows and "fresh" air.Administrator

Not a great pic, but this is one of a "Roll Cloud" as it went south of our city a few weeks ago. I was under it at one point, and it is just plain weird. There was actually a 2nd one started up, almost parallel to this one. There was a storm to the NE part of our city, but this thing just slid south, seemingly representative of nothing. But it was unusual!
Ever seen one?Comment

I've seen this type of cloud before, and it was even weirder. It was also when a storm was brewing, but not in the specific area of the cloud itelf. But here's another view of what a Roll Cloud looks like, and it appears to be on a reasonably calm day over a body of water:

That is so cool. I've never seen nor heard about this before so I had to look it up. Lots of information out there. Here's a wiki page for it.
Thanks for sharing!
These clouds are so weird, including the shelf clouds mentioned in the wiki article. As I mentioned, I saw a stranger roll cloud a few years back. Should have got the camera out!
In fact, recently as many as 12 new clouds have become officially recognized. Here are some very interesting shapes:
