  • Bike shopping SUCKS!!

Man oh man... after awhile it get's old. Then... I find a nice one on craigslist and the seller says- "It's sold". Dayum!!! I just want a mountainbike with full suspension... a hard-tail would be okay. Doesn't have to be disc brakes, but would be nice. I get to stop by the local shop and look at a Giant Youkon.... see how that fits since a guy I work with races for the shop I can get hooked up on a great price.

    What do you guys/gals ride?

A full suspension takes power away from pedalling power and sucks on pavement, gravel, and most trails. Unless you plan on bouncing off rocks or falling off cliffs, go with a hardtail; more power and speed.

A really nice one that costs about $379 is called Forge Sawback 5xx. The frame is aluminum and made by Giant (they make extremely expensive bikes) and the disk brakes, deralliuers, drive train, front fork and other components are really nice and are worth over $600 if bought separately.

You can buy one from Amazon and read reviews:

The best mountain bike for under $500. If you take it to a bike shop they will price it anywhere from $600 to $800 based on build quality, frame, and components.

I have one and it is better than most of my friends $1000 plus bikes and has given me no problems.

I clicked the wrong link and posted this in the wrong place. What a noob!!!

Ill take a look at that bike. Sounds like what I'm after. Im looking at a KHS tomorrow. Guy is gonna be in the sac area so he's gonna meet me at work. Sounds like a smokin deal on it too.

My goal is mostly downhill stuff. My brother in law and a couple of his friends are hard into it right now and I need to replace my 14 year old Pro-Flex.

No sweat. Easiest thing I did all day.

PS: I went through something similar when looking for a cheap-o car. I used to have this massive Ford F-150 and I loved it! It had a roll cage, 4 Wheel Drive, A small lift kit, really awesome tranny and suspension, etc... I got rid of it though because I moved from the Continental Divide (literally) to Denver, and parking this monstrosity in a city is a-kin to being in a closed room with a well-armed monkey.

So anyway, I checked CL over and over again for a good "city car" and had the same experience as you. Eventually what I had to do was literally, drive around the neighborhoods around me and just find a car sitting out that had a for sale sign on it that looked decent. I test drove a couple of those and when I found a good deal I took it. It didn't take long at all.

I paid 1000 bucks for the car I currently have and I've had it over two years now - and it fits in the compact parking spaces and on the tight roads in Denver. Can't beat that!

CL is good sometimes, but I find the best deals on good stuff to come from sheer foot-work up and down the streets.

I ride my Haro Mira flair around at the skate park. I've had it for like 4 years and it's still a bad ass bike.

Speaking of haro bikes, when the hell did Dave Mira stop riding for Haro? ***?!?!

I used to have a Haro Backtrailx2, it was really good for dirt.

I don't know much about mountain bikes though.

Yeah... the only hard part is that the bikes aren't sitting around. Good thing is that Kyle(the tech I work with) races for a local shop, so if i have to go the new route I can get a smokin deal on pretty much whatever I want/need. But... this one on CL is such a great deal that if it's in decent- good shape I'll have to jump on it!

I've always been a fan of the good 'ol footwork though.

Dude I totally feel your pain. I ride a CBR600RR and have been wanting to update to a newer nicer Motorbike, so I have decided on a DUCATI 749S (Always liked their look). Unfortunately Ducati Dealers are only selling the new 1198/848 (Which are the best Ducati's EVER) lineup, so I have to check out some Private parties to find a 749S.

I found a couple of nice ones, but they either dont have the "RED KEY" or Havent had the "Valves adjusted" ($600 job), or they are the 3rd or fourth owner. It's just a mess. So after finally getting bored looking, I am probably going to just go with another japanese bike, probably a GSXR1000. Oh well
SOMEBODY!!! ANYBODY!!!! GIVE ME A MILE HIGH SALUTE!!!!

Those Ducati's don't really fit my taste. I had an '06 CBR600rr and I LOVED it but had to sell. The gixxer is nice, but I drool over the 1000rr....
