  • What is the strangest thing you have ever eaten?

The topic of fried squirrel came up in another thread and it gave me the idea to ask

"What is the strangest food you have ever eaten?"

I'll start with a little story:

One summer about 4 years ago my family and I were headed to Roseburg, Oregon for the 4th of July. We stopped at a Rest Stop for a bathroom break and to stretch our legs. We were also carravanning with my wife's sister's family as well.
Well, this Rest Stop happened to be in the middle of the "high desert", and we came across a rattle snake. Anyway, through a series of events, and one well placed stone on top of its head by "yours truly", the rattlesnake ended up in a cooler, and then on the grill in Roseburg the next day.

For those of you who might think I needlessly killed that rattlesnake just remember; people who stop there have little kids and sometimes pets. It was better to remove the danger than to have somebody accidentally step on it.

When I went to disneyland a few years ago, they served peanut butter and jelly pizza at a restaurant. It wasn't half bad.

I think I would have had a hard time getting past kangaroo being kangaroo.

Where did you try kangaroo and alligator?

Except for the fact that thats the rattlesnakes natural environment and has lived there for longer than humans have been around. People think they own this world, its unfortunate.

Ok anyways, If I had the opportunity to kill it and see what it tasted like I definitely wouldve.

But hmmmmmmmmmm, the strangest thing Ive ever eaten....I honestly cant really remember, or at least I dont consider some of the things Ive eaten strange. Alligator was very good. Kangaroo was a little weird. I ate a handful of raw beef once. I love calamari and octopus. My strange food combo is fried potatoes with cottage cheese on top(its sooooooooo good)..I ate chocolate covered grasshoppers, but I dont remember what they tasted like. Oh and my moms cooking is always a culinary adventure

I don't think I own the world.....I just think I'm higher on the food chain than the rattlesnake......and I value the lives of my children more than the rattlesnake's.....

Well just sayin. Like when a bear or something wanders into a town and the police or animal control shoot him. I mean come on, he lives here too!

Anyways, Im guessing snakes taste like alligator, the meat on them both looks exactly the same.

Edit: Speaking of bears, I wonder what they taste like?!

Bears will eat anything. Their meat does not taste very good.

Rattlesnake tastes a lot like the dark meat of chicken actually. It was pretty good. One of the boys got a pretty cool souveneir (sp?) from the rattle too.

No, I just do not like snakes. Kangroo was a little hard to get through, but it tasted so good.

A few years back at "New South Wales" resturant in Colorado Springs.

                        Octopus. Chewy.

Never could make myself eat squid. My mother loved it. The smell.

                        No wonder I became vegetarian.

Litchi fruit. Tasty, but man are they strange looking.

I enjoy a good squid stir fry now and then. Usually with hot chili sauce. Calamari is tasty, too. Especially the bits with the tentacles. :thumb:

I've eaten snails once (they were good, but I got an allergic reaction ).

A few years ago, my boys and I all ate live minnows we had caught in the lake were were staying at.

Oh, and as far as the nastiest goes, Vegimite by a mile.
