  • To Rent A Car or Not Rent A Car

I'm lucky enough that my wife has bought me two tickets (yes she is coming) a hotel, and the flight for the December 20 game vs the Raiders. It will be our first time in Denver. We are flying in the 19th and out the 21st. A few questions if I could get some help with...

    1. We are staying at the Red Lion right beside Invesco, would it be cheaper to rent a car from the airport or just catch a cab both ways to and from the airport?

    2. What is the area like around the stadium? Are there restaurants or night life right near there or will we need to grab a cab to go to some fun?

    3. Is it worth it to buy entrance into the Tent or just try and meet some tailgaters when walking around? We won't want to mooch, but we won't know anyone, but we want to tailgate before the game. I'm so excited, I just can't believe after 23 years of being a fan Ill finally be there.

So if anyone could provide feedback I'd really appreciate it. We are trying to set up a stress free trip even if it it is three days.

Of course CP for helpful info.

i'm not positive on the price of a cab,i would guesstimate about $40 each way, there are some pedestrian bridges that cross I-25 into downtown, because the area around the stadium isn't that great(like most NFL stadiums i think),it's not horrible but not a lot to do around there, which is why you might consider renting a car to get around, and i do believe the Red Lion is called VQ now,and there is a bar on the top floor, don't know about the "tent"but the tailgaters are a friendly lot,and some aren't even going to the game, they just hang in the parking lot all day.and how lucky are you?Raiders tickets used to be the hardest game to getinto.Have fun hope this helps somewhat.

I personally would visit the RTD site http://www.rtd-denver.com/

The busses and light rail are really great for getting around in Denver. There are several shuttles and busses from the airport into the city. You can take the light rail from a point near the stadium to 16th street mall and LoDo area, if youre looking for shopping, bar scene, some pretty good restaraunts.

But, renting a car isnt a bad idea either, Denver isnt too bad to drive around in.

I think Ben Tate will be the best back taken in the 2010 draft. (5/3/10)

Super Shuttle (or something like it) used to run about $21 to and from the airport. I'm sure it's gone up since 2003 when I worked in the area... but it's still much cheaper than a cab, if you decide not to rent a car.

        Have a great time!

            limo?

I looked at the cab reviews which doesn't look positive for the most part and a midnight taxi ride worries me.

A few people have said limo services which now look pretty good price and offer wise.

Can any of you recommend the good well known positive limos? I figure once a lifetime opportunity we can do it right.

If you rent a car, make sure your limit on your credit card is in good shape, the hold placed on cards until you return the car is pretty high (usually 200-400 bucks).
Fire Rick Dennison - This Signature will stay until the worst playcaller in the NFL is gone.

I'd try not to rent a car, if you don't have to. I have to imagine a cab, even as far as DIA is, has to be cheaper than renting a car.

The car rental is where they really stick it to people.

I'm actually leaning towards limo service pick up for a once and a lifetime thing, you guys got any companies you suggest that are known for good service?

When I worked in hotels in the area, I literally had a pocketful... and I'd have been quick to give you the names of the ones that would give me a kickback... ... If you want, I can see if I can ask one of my old contacts that still work in the area.

you know there is something you can do while in Denver, that sometimes those of us that live here often overlook telling people to check out,and that is The Denver Mint, there are daily tours there, and afterall it is YOUR mint it just happens to be in Denver.

I watched a show on PBS about the mint the other night.and thought to myself i live here and have never once taken the tour, but other people visiting the city might be interested as well.so there ya go.
