Boy I'm so surprised that there aren't a whole lot of people who know about these free programs. I'll tell you what, if you download them...you won't be sorry. I just want to make sure everybody is fully aware that these programs exist and are free, and there are better, free opportunities for software that do the same thing as name-brand advertised programs that sell for far too much money. Well here it goes. If you have any questions, please ask.
Microsoft Security Essentials:
Virus protection is necessary in these times of internet growth. If you don't have any virus protection, GET THIS! It's probably the best virus protection that you could get for free. It carries the same Virus/Spyware/Malware engine as any other Microsoft security software, but it's light in features. If features aren't something you're sad about not having, get this. It's better than AVG. Trust me.
CCleaner System Optimizer:
I bet you've seen those annoying commercials promoting software that "makes your PC fast", or "speed up old PC performance". I hope none of you actually purchased any of that crap software. CCleaner is boss. This program will clean excess files that slow down your system, it will repair and remove registry errors (which greatly contribute to PC slowness), and it can also manage your start-up programs so you can turn off start-up programs you don't need and that will greatly speed up your computer. It's a great program, and is stronger than nearly any other "Computer Performance Optimizer" that comes bundled in any other security suite.
Open Office Productivity Suite:
Sick of Microsoft Office 2007? That stupid "ribbon" bar on the top? Don't want to pay $100+ for brand-name Microsoft Office? You're not alone, and OpenOffice is your alternative. It does EVERYTHING that Microsoft Office can practically do, it's a light-weight application that doesn't take up a crap load of space, and it's simplicity at its best. Best of all, it's FREE. It allows for unrivaled compatibility (yes even Microsoft Office formats), and you can even export files in PDF file from it. It's a really amazing program, works and feels just like Microsoft Office and in addition you can add features that YOU want. It allows for ultimate customization. Just in case you couldn't notice, I LOVE THIS SOFTWARE! I have Microsoft Office 2007 Enterprise, yet I prefer Open Office because of its simplicity.
Comodo FireWall + Antivirus:
A nifty tool that any security suite needs. It protects any unwanted programs from the internet to access any of your files and data, and allows you to block those threats from accessing your personal information. It's a great tool. Since you already have an antivirus (the one I talked about earlier), you can custom install just the firewall and everything should be great.
I hope this can help some people. If you have any questions, comments, concerns, please comment in the thread. Enjoy :salute!:
