  • Funny Thing I Read.

The second law of thermodynamics, which predicts that the entropy of an isolated system out of equilibrium should tend to increase rather than decrease or stay constant, stands in apparent contradiction with the time-reversible equations of motion for classical and quantum systems. The time reversal symmetry of the equations of motion show that if one films a given time dependent physical process, then playing the movie of that process backwards does not violate the laws of mechanics. It is often argued that for every forward trajectory in which entropy increases, there exists a time reversed anti trajectory where entropy decreases, thus if one picks an initial state randomly from the system's phase space and evolves it forward according to the laws governing the system, decreasing entropy should be just as likely as increasing entropy. It might seem that this is incompatible with the second law of thermodynamics which predicts that entropy tends to increase. The problem of deriving irreversible thermodynamics from time-symmetric fundamental laws is referred to as Loschmidt's paradox.

Quantum physics for you. Did you know atoms act like waves unless they are being observed directly?

They can also be in two places at the same time, and interact with other atoms simultaneously -- at the same time, not just at the speed of light.

isnt that from the past Big Bang Theory episode?

If anybody is interested in quantum physics or string theory you should read The Elegant Universe by Brian Greene. I read it a few years ago and it's a pretty good introductory book with some fascinating stuff in there.

              What the heck is that?

              No, it's from quantum physics.

The part Brancos gave touches up on the theory that even time is reversable on a quantum level. It's non-linear so to speak.

the big bang theory is a tv show. i think that line was the main point of the latest new episode. i recommend you check out that show

                  Discovery I'm guessing? I don't have cable.

Quantum physics is a pretty interesting field to read into. It all sounds freaking ridiculous, but it's by far the most accurate science in history.

I took that class last semester and although it was interesting, i didn't care for it much.

I liked the whole duality part how atoms are both particles and also waves. that was interesting.

It's tough to really appreciate it, you're right. Still, going into Nanotechnology, quantum physics are going to be important for me soon enough.

I really am a science geek, but we all have our geeky interests.
