Three people were killed and one was wounded Friday after a shooting at the University of Alabama in Huntsville, said Ray Garner, a spokesman for the university.

A female shooter was in custody, he said.

The incident occurred about 4:15 p.m. in Shelby Hall, which police were still searching, said Trent Willis, a spokesman for the mayor. "We do have some witnesses," he said.
Sad to hear news like this, just makes you think why people take innocent lives.

I just shipped some rocket motors there last week.

This is yet again another tragic story. What is wrong with society anymore?

Nothing (relatively speaking). We've had worse events take place. Look up the "Bath Incident."

We never hear about that any more, and the incident itself wasn't all that widely covered at the time.

In the modern era, the press buzzes around things like this whereas in the past it wasn't covered as intensely by the media.

            3 killed and 3 wounded.

            What a shame!

Being here in VA, I instantly think of the Virginia Tech massacre.

Earlier in the week a teacher shot his Principal and assistant principal.

            Scary stuff and so sad!

Every time I hear about a shooting at a school I think of Columbine. Going through that firsthand and seeing the devastation from a personal level it will be with me until the day I die. That fateful day almost 11 years ago changed the landscape of this country. Nobody should have to go through that type of tragedy, especially young children/adults.

May the lord be with those who were affected by this tragedy today. No innocent life should be taken with a gun.

The point is not about media coverage.

It's the need or problem with people expressing their anger and displeasure in such a violent manner.

My God, when I grew up and went to school we NEVER had to worry let alone think about stuff like this. It's disgusting really to think about our youth dealing with this fear they know exists and live among it.

So society is the target. It's the way of life for all of our students and I know you as a teacher can relate to that.

I cannot agree more as I too am not directly affected by that day but have friends that were.

A week later, after their son escaped Columbine, was killed at Subway along with another girl and I always wonder

                  how many people remember that.

Point being is that this type of fear, anxiety and level of violence never occurred in my past and it's sad to learn almost constantly it seems that this is happening.

Only because we didn't realize it was happening. It was though, and in higher numbers and more frequently than it is today. The difference is that today we hear about it more.

But it's getting better, and it has always happened. We're actually getting better, not worse. It's just that we didn't have a news van on the scene for every event 15 years ago.

That's sad. I had an attempted shooting at my high school three years ago but a kid cracked and reported the guy the day he was planning the shooting and they found several loaded guns in the trunk of his car. Scary stuff.
